I almost went to the Nintendo store release but didn't preorder so i figured i'd rather not take the chance to be disappointed. I needed the special edition as i don't have a wii plus remote right now and this is just awesome. It's freaking sold out everywhere around me, even on some online stores. Luckily TRU online has/had/ionno at this point, should get it in a few days. SOOOO Excited!!!
Yep. Went to my local Gamestop. The employees were pretty awesome. They were giving out pizza, drinks, some extra promo items they had, and they raffled off Skyward Sword promo display that the store had. Apparently the decision to even have a midnight release was very last minute, and up to the stores themselves. By the time they started to let us in, the line was stretching to the back of the building. The people were pretty nice, some were dressed up as various Links. I love great midnight launches! Also, played a bit more of the game. So damn good!
Maybe take a look at one of these: Nyko - Products - Kama I don't have one, but a friend of mine does and says it's really good. So does the game pick up after you hit the first dungeon? I put a good 4 hours into it yesterday and right now I give the game a solid "Huh, that's cool." not the "As good as Ocarina!" I keep reading about online. I just haven't felt that same hook like you got the first time you see the mouth of the Deku Tree open starting your adventure. Also, after putting in 30 hours on 1080p Skyrim, it's REALLY time Nintendo moves to HD. While I love the water color look, man, those jaggies on a 90 inch HD screen suck hard.
Up until the first dungeon, I kinda felt the same. The game does take its time really getting started; Twilight Princess did too and, while it's nice for setup, it was pretty tedious in both games. I've put about 6 hours into it now; beat the first dungeon and am a bit into Eldin Volcano. So far, I'd say it's pretty good. As of yet, I won't call it my favourite in the series but I'm still early on enough for that to easily change later. The motion controls are damn near flawless from what I can tell. I've never had to totally re-calibrate the MotionPlus either; which I had to do a lot in Red Steel 2. I still love the style though after the high-resolution screenshots we got at E3 last year, I do also wish the game could be played in HD; some of those screenshots really did make the game almost look like a painting.
Regardless of what art style Nintendo will choose for the next Zelda, it will look amazing in HD. Even if it were in patchwork style like Kirby's Epic Yarn.....Although I'd still rather them go with the TP or OoT look.
Everybody doubting this based on the events up to the first dungeon: keep moving forward. I just started up the third dungeon, and the area leading up to it is crazy. Took me a good two or three hours to explore it entirely. My only issue is that it seemed like it was designed to be able to be traversed (which it obviously was), but due to that it lacks that traditional feel that a lot of Zelda games have in that sense. If that makes sense . The music is phenomenal. Although I'm not looking forward to Spoiler the second fire themed dungeon and second sand themed dungeon (not-so-cleverly disguised as a pirate ship) later in the game.
^Honestly, I'm only just about to enter the first dungeon (at least I think I am), and I have been enjoying the game greatly so far. Only downside is that the batteries in both my Wiimotes were close to dead, and we are out of AA batteries. Thankfully, I remembered that I had taken the batteries out of my Leader Starscream and saved them just in case (once again, Leader SS has lived up to his awesomeness ).
Crossing my fingers that Amazon sends me a shipping confirmation tonight. It's supposed to be in my grubby little hands by tomorrow.
Today I went though the second province, did the second dungeon, and did loads of side events. The game is really getting awesome. The second province and dungeon are really fun to go through and incredibly creative.
Alright... the third dungeon was amazing. Although... did anyone else not have to fight a miniboss to get the item? I found it a bit odd.
LOLs, I guess I've been out of the loop, I had no idea they had the MotionPlus integrated into the Wiimotes nowadays, so that was a very cool bonus in getting the set, on top of it being a very cool WiiMote. A little over 2 hours in and I'm enjoying the ride so far. It's taking its time, but unlike Twilight Princess, I'm actually getting into it. Next up for me is visiting the great unknown world called "The Surface".
Hoping to be able to find a collectors bundle at some point as I need a Wii-mote with the wiimotion plus
It isn't often that Amazon messes up like this. I went ahead and canceled, drove to the local Wal-Mart a few minutes ago and got a copy there. Too bad I still have an eight hour work shift to put in.
Got my copy today. Been playing for about 1 1/2 hours and I'm at the Bazaar buying a shield and potions. Bit of a slow burn, I kind of expected to be in a dungeon or temple by now. Also, anyone else have trouble with the Loftwing contest? I kept having to recalibrate by Wiimote as I kept sinking down towards the clouds.
I had the same trouble. You will naturally fall from the sky. To gain altitude, shake the Wiimote forward and back to flap your bird's wings. This game has a short learning curve. As for the controls, I can see what the Gamestop reviewer was talking about. It's hard to differentiate different angles of attack in the heat of battle and sometimes you really have to exaggerate your movements. But I just finished the Earth temple and I'm enjoying it so far. On par with Wind Waker and Twilight Princess (if not a near-perfect combination).
finished the third temple, and I had more trouble with the first two bosses. I am absolutely loving the game. though, there's a tad of science nagging me... if those are all of the people alive living on that floating rock... I'm 100% convinced they had human ears at first... then after generations of inbreeding, they turned into elf ears.
