I think the writing community will also be dissapointed with you mixing up canon with cannon.  

 

Well, it doesn’t take a Rocket scientist from Cybertron to know to that the people doing FOC convey a better understanding and passion for Transformers lore than Mr. Irvine here does….so it would only make sense to give him the pink slip after two lack luster attempts. Lets face it, the Novels are contradictory, slow and boring! Three things novels about “Giant Transforming Robots in the middle of a Civil War” should be anything but!

Give the reigns to someone like, Jonathan Maberry, or Larry Correia ….Or even Petter Clines. In their hands I could almost guarantee a best seller, and it would be well deserved to!

It wasn’t as horribly presented as say Bays current efforts but over all, it’s a bland ending to an otherwise bland beginning.

 

My good Sir I was with you up until you mentioned those movies. Which actually already has an author for Bayformers mythology. So if you’re hoping for a novelization of the films you only need search Peter David who I will say does a better job of telling the Bayformers story than Bay does at directing it. I’m sure it dirt cheap on Amazon, so give it a try. I must warn you though….Reading the Film’s novel only serves as more evidence on how horrible the editors are in Bays camp. Not to mention all the stupid unnecessary revisions from the novel itself. (such as Megatron not dying in the end again.)

 

I just finished Exiles and I hate to hear that Irvine won't be writing the next one...he kind of left us hanging  eek , which I knew meant another one or two books had to follow.....also, I liked his style and was hoping he'd continue. Oh well....as long as it's someone who can take the reins and "roll with it"

Not at all. It is the way in which the writer chooses to relate to the characters that is in question. When you write science fiction, and include alien races in the plot, they cannot be explained or explored in our terms.

they must be viewed as one of their own, in order to bring the reader into te correct perspective of the character. Writing about the Autobots as if they were in way related to humanity is a discredit to the complete idea of writing about an alien race.

If yo read the novelization of DOTM, you find that it is more in touch and in line with how the characters themselves would behave and act. The author did a tremendous job of relating Optimus Prime as if we were actually there with him.

Thats how a novel should be written.

I just hope they don't pull a Magic: The Gathering and hire the previously-unknown "Robert J. Wintermute" to write them. He took excellent storylines, and distilled it down to a plodding 'quest' with 'battles'. They eventually canned him after two books, but the damage was done - no more MtG novels to go with the sets now.

The only problem with that is in this aligned continuity (that the games, books and prime cartoon now take place), you're looking at it all backwards. You're assuming that the robots (either intentionally or due to bad writing) are mimicking our human thought process and actions, correct? And that is why it isn't believable.

In this continuity, the robots came first, and since Unicron became the earth, and we developed off him, it is likely US, humankind, that are mirroring the robot's who had come long before us and in fact (one way or another) brought us life. So it's not the robots who are acting unrealistically human, it's that we are mirroring our creators (kinda sorta if you wanna look at it that way.)

Just proves even more that the people behind this continuity have balls. They truly care about story first and consequences later.

 

I enjoyed Exodus though a had a few gripes with the story, but I not too sure how I feel about Exiles—it went a completely different direction from what I was expecting and I'm still not sold on the whole 13 Primes and their godly weapons, which is seriously bothering me.

I will say this: Alex is a talented writer. Though there were things I disagreed with, I couldn't put the books down until I finished them.

Umm....yeah, well that was just a cop out since writing Unicron into TF rime using his original take would've required too much creativity on a show that seems to be stuck on Earth by compelled writers. Ergo making this whole blood of Unicron thing lamer with every presentation of it.

BTW can someone please ask Irvine what happened with the whole build up of Dark Energon being highly addictive. And how almost all Decepticons were using it in Exodus, (which tipped the scales of the war in there favor in the first place) to barely no mention of it at all in Exiles...?

It's these types of inconsistencies that made this so called Transformers "Bible" unbearable at times.

Irvine is the worst writer I've ever had the displeasure of being exposed to. His work was so inconsistent even within the novels that it's an insult to all unpublished writers that his garbage made print. It seems impossible for the next writer to do any worse, and I very much hope they disregard the crap he produced instead of continuing from it.

Making Unicron the Earth is pretty damn creative, never mind a ballsy move. It also conveniently makes him a threat without him having to do anything, and keeps him from being truly destroyed.

As for the Dark Energon, wasn't that the idea of High Moon, if memory serves, to play up so much?
