Basically, I have only recently became aware of the Avengers, which is criminal as I have always loved my super hero films, and I'm confused about where to start with them.

I mean I think I have seen them all or at least most of them but I'm really not sure. Any suggestions of which films and what order? please and thanks!

I guess this is technically a separate topic, though you really should have posted in the preexisting Avengers topic.

For the order of the films, I'd say watch Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and then Captain America, in that order. That will give you the most timeline accurate formula for the lead-up to the Avengers.

Currently, the films related to the upcoming Avengers movie are:

Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger, in their order of release.

Obviously, Iron Man 2 comes after Iron Man, but otherwise, the continuity between the five films isn't all that important, up until you get to the stingers (after-credits scenes) of each of the movies, which is about the only point where the internal continuity starts to shape up. Iron Man teases the beginnings of the Avengers Initiative. Hulk's stinger expects you to be aware of the Tony Stark character introduced in Iron Man. Iron Man 2's stinger sets up Thor (but isn't exactly required watching, because the scene is rehashed in the Thor movie itself). Some background scenes in Iron Man 2 actually establish its timeframe as having occurred during The Incredible Hulk, but that's hardly important. Thor's stinger sets up The Avengers, but ties back into Captain America's plot.

I'd put Thor after Captain America since an item in Cap shows up in Thor.

Awesome, thanks a bunch! I was going to post on the other thread but I wasn't sure if it was off topic.
