Could you post a wire frame? And could you do a demonstration on your rigging when you're done? This is looking very nice.
This is so cool. I really wish I knew how to use 3D programs, because these movie transformers (the fan ones especially) are pretty cool. Also, definitely dig how the seats become the hands. Gonna need to remember that for when I learn how to use one.
I second this. Also, would you mind going into some detail about your modelling process a bit, like where you start from and such? I asked this in another thread in the art forum but I don't think it would hurt to find out the different techniques people use lol. I'm actually taking 3D classes for my degree and have been attempting to build larger movie transformers in Lightwave.
I'm going to post some wireframes once I've eliminated a lot of the temporary geometry. Right now he's full of intersecting primitive geometry that would just look ugly in a wireframe. I need to replace those with finalized, designed meshes and it's really time consuming. I've spent the last couple days re-building the doors and the upholstery within.
Is this an animated approach to the character? EDIT: DUH, nevermind, I saw your link.. Will you reconsider modifying his face? It be very nice to see it more complicated like in the movies. I like the legs & would recommend addiing more bulk to him. Excellent work!
Yup, fully animated (which is why it's taking so long). It's apparent that ILM and Digital Domain took every available opportunity to cheat transformations. There are moments where a car part will pass behind an object and suddenly be a fully transformed body part; and the reason they did cheat is for two reasons: time and aesthetics. This guy is going to look leaner than movie designs. But yeah, there's a ton more detail that will be introduced as this guy progresses. As for the head, there will be an opportunity to insert some more kibble here and there, but the basic topology will remain the same.
I second this. Maybe it could go into the tutorial section? That'd be badass. I love the way the hands become the seats. Kinda like Movie Landmine, which is one of my fave movie toys. As always, can't wait to see this finished, it will be EPIC.
http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/tutorials-how-tos/201900-table-contents.html It's mostly kitbash custom stuff, but there is a small section on the 2D arty stuff, and I think a "how to make a fully transformable movie-style transformer in 3D" tutorial would be super special awesome!
Yup and thanks! Fan Artists here really need to browse around TFW2005.com for all of the resources available (Creative GD, Tutorials, Galleries, Resources . . . . .) Also, : http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-fan-art/418546-fan-art-tutorials-table-contents.html Fan Art Tutorials aren't as plentiful as the customs (nearly 500), but there's quite a few (almost 50). On that note, if any of you guys wish to add a tutorial, be sure to post it here or in Creative GD
Ah.. I wasn't so much asking for a tutorial as I was asking for tips/his modelling process. Just hoping to maybe find some ways to make it easier for me when I model them I loved watching Nomad come together when I came across it on YouTube and Blurr is pretty amazing already for not being completed yet. Things like where he starts building his model from using the base it looks like he builds to begin with. I myself just start with a sketch on paper and build a face from scratch and go from there. So if you don't mind Santo, I have a couple questions How do you set up your transformations? Do you use bones and attach each piece of the car/piece that will move to a bone, or do you work the transformations with morphs? I'd also love to hear a bit about how you set up your models and your building process if you don't mind. Like I said above, I just start building a face/head from scratch and adjust proportions and resize things as I go along to make something look good. I use Lightwave, so I apologize if the terms I'm using don't match up exactly with your software since they can differ from program to program sometimes.
ahh the pagani huayra, nice choice, maybe a little lighter of a blue and not so vibrant, then (IMO) it will look even more like blur
Sorry to necro post, but has there been any updates on this project? I stumbled across this thread again today and am still just fascinated by how awesome Blurr is, even in his unfinished state.
