I plan on saving some cash and buying this set. My first fan project ever, I have RTS Rodimus from the BIS two pack with Cyclonus. Would it be worth it? Im really into the armor set.

It's a really nice set, but I recommend one of the earlier releases of Hot Rod to go with it. Either version 1 US Hot Rod or the Henkei one. I actually have one in my sales thread if you're looking for a deal.

 

Well, Is it hard to put it on the figure? It can make the RTS one look SO much better, but Im worried I may screw it up

 

If you A) are fine with buying 3rd party Transformer products, B) can justify spending the money on it, and C) like the aesthetic of the armor, then by all means go for it.

 

Sure, why not. You might want to get Henkei or Classics Rodimus though. BiS Rodimus matches horribly with the Protector armor. Red doesn't match, yellow doesn't match, tires don't match and lower legs don't match.

Gotta go with everyone else on this, but I strongly suggest Henkei Hot Rod. Make sure to get Firebolt (Fansproject Sidearm) to go with it and get the chromed spoiler pieces. Total win. BBTS still has Henkei Hot Rod for preorder, snag it dude.

The colors won't match completely, but it shouldn't look too bad.

 

The BiS version doesn't match colors very well. Like everyone has said, either original Classics or Henkei is the way to go. Or get the Sons of Cybertron crystal Rodimus and the crystal Protector, that also looks REALLY SEXY.

 

Eh, I'm in the minority but while I think the Protector set is fun I think it's FP's weakest release by far. It just looks like a suit of armor rather than Rodimus Prime as a character. I prefer Hot Rod in it's own.

 

BiS one is fine. Classics/Henkei is another big investment.

My Protector is for sale, by the way.  

 

I actually think BIS Roddy looks fine in the protector armor, at least in bot mode. The differences in the reds are a bit annoying in Winnebago mode, though.

 

I want this set myself but I wanted the sold out set that was the first set from last yr. Now all their is, IS the clear version when I have the solid hasbro Roddy version so I might have to get that clear type version since the other is sold out on both sites. I say its a go for it for the set but that added 12 some other dollars is abit more expensive.

 

It looks okay Ventrally in robot mode. The bright reddish tint makes it look uneven in dorsal robot mode and alt mode. The latter mode being the worst looking.

I'd say go for the armour first, BiS should look fine really and down the line if it bothers you a Classics Rodimus can be looked for. One major purchase at a time lol

 

I use the BiS Hot Rod with the Protector armor and it doesn't look terrible, at least not in robot mode. The clashing shades of red are much more glaring in vehicle mode, though. Overall the differences are bothersome enough that I preordered a Henkei Hot Rod. If you're willing to spend the extra money, that's what I would suggest doing.

 

You can still find the first release of prot armor. Just check some of the other retailers supporting the site on the links above. I know some of them have it. Also I think chimichunga? (spelling?) had some last time I checked. Henkai rod is getting a rerelease soon so its the best chance to get him cheap.
