Amen! Without a doubt RiD gave us some of the most amazing, memorable Transformers toys to date. I think its lasting legacy, though, is that it single-handedly sparked a new generation of collectors. I loosely followed Car Robots but didn’t have an idea of how I could get the toys. One day during my lunch hour I happened to walk into a KB Toys and saw a stack of RiD Optimus Primes for sale. I bought Prime and Ultra Magnus immediately. They were the very first figures in my Prime collection and… the rest is history.

As cringe-worthy as the US adaptation of Car Robots was at times, the fact that the toys were so badass made it tolerable.

Without a doubt RiD has a very special place in my heart.

The beginning of an era of subpar imported Transformers animation. I respect the toyline however.

I wonder if TFW2005 will have any special big celebration thing for ROBOTS IN DISGUISE? If only TFW2005 put out some sort of monthly spectacle for stuff happening in the land of Transformers.

    If only...

I certainly liked the toys. Crome and Rubbber wheels! Even Megatron was nice even though he was extremely different than the norm.

RiD was my first experience with the autobots and decepticons fighting each other having only seen Beast wars and beast machines before. Like many other anime of that time it was a very fun ride and a big part of my childhood.

I respect it for what it added to the tranformers world, and will cherish its legacy.

Yes, really, 3 days before... We heard the words, "Megatron Terrorize", we heard a jet airplane sound and all of a sudden a hand crushed thru a building in New York City. A Fire Truck, a Tower Ladder apparatus, responds from half way around the world to fight terrorism.

If ya dont believe me watch the pilot again.

    :bday Henshin!!!:bday

RID Prowl, Buildboy (aka Huffer!), Scourge (Black Optimus or Black Ops!) and FireConvoy are still 4 of my top all time Favorites.

Omega mode Prime and Ultra Magnus just miss the cut for "cheating" (You have to take UM's legs off to transform him.)

JRX is one of my few regrets. Didn't snatch him up the one time I saw him. Didn't realize how rare he'd become.

I came to TFW2005 about the same time. Still have some of Tony B's Car Robots remix tracks on my mp3 player.

The show's dialogue was cringe worthy true, but the more lighthearted mood was a nice change after the melancholic Beast Machines and it did add a bunch of interesting characters and transformations not seen before or after, Railracer, the build team, Omega Prime, etc. Also this show instilled in me that Optimus is a fire truck and no matter what Optimus will always make more sense to me as a fire truck than a big rig.

    Minicons man, celebrate Miniconssss...sss

Its a well known fact that if you add X to a name it's 90% cooler than without. *coughWeaponXcough*

Also Sky Byte for TF Prime!

I loved it as Car Robots and loved it when it we got it as RID. I had no problems with it. It was a change into a lighter tone after the darker more mature style of the Beast Wars/Beast Machines series. It brought change. I really wish that the current line would still include Maximals and Predacons and their insignias. I still love both my Fire Convoy and RID Prime.

    OPTIMUS PRIME... MAXIMIZE!

Ahhhh RiD. Sure the line of figures was a mixture of brand new molds together with some shitty repaints from G1, G2 & BW that also gave us some incredibly infuriating transformations (Omega Prime & the Autobot Brothers come to mind...) but eh - What's not to luv about that? :lol

I fail to see how any of the redecos in RID were shitty. They are all better than the original decos. I mean fuck, Sky-Byte, Scourge, Ruination. The "repaints" (ignoring that none of them were actual repainted figures) were probably the best of out most of the TF redecos out there.

Scourge and Ruination are still the pride of my collection. They took be absolutely years to get but when I finally did, I was so happy, couldn't believe I'd finally gotten Transformers that I'd wanted since I was a kid

I'd still like to watch the Car Robots series with subtitles.

I got into RiD while everyone seemed to still be into Beast Machines. Since BM season 2 aired almost a year in advance in Canada, that left a pretty large amount of downtime if it hadn't been for the stuff coming in from japan. I remember opening Fire Convoy and taking an hour to transform him because I was being so careful.

I have to say that this day ten years ago was kind of a bubble bursting for me. I didn't have a chance to see an episode until that point and it had been a loooong wait. I really thought the TV show was awful. I still love the toys though.

And I have to say that one of the particular low points of the series was the poor use of the name Scourge. I am not sure if the "Scourge not Nemesis Prime" posts are serious, because it is easily the worst use of the name. The original Scourge was the G1 character. Then the name reuse in Beast Wars made sense since large numbers of insects are often called a scourge. But how does Black Convoy translate to Scourge? It really doesn't. The name Nemesis Prime would have helped to drive home the clone aspect the show had. Nemesis Prime is too perfect. It would be nice if some day a new and improved dub was done, fixing Nemesis Prime's name among other things.

I have always viewed RiD to belong alongside BWII and BWNeo largely because of the style of the show. I still want to see those.
