Michael Bay said that DOTM would be better then the last movie and I strongly believe he is wrong. They are both equally as terrible and for a movie that started out with a great concept and plot the wheels really fell off this thing half way through. The autobots just pop out of nowhere towards the end to help the humans fight and just dissapear to pop back up again. I did not even see some of the autobots captured. The killing of Q and Ironhide was pointless in all honesty and gave no emotional value to the film at all.

Sam running through the fight with no gun doing Parkour at one point to leap over cars and slide under crap was as pointless as his Mutt Character swinging through the vines with the monkeys in Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. Also the shot of Rosie Huntington Whiteley standing around as crap blows up behind her was also equally as pointless.

The one thing I noticed is you never really saw any plotting from the Decepticon side. Megatron is barely shown and his only major scene being called Sentinels bitch really made me angry as I expect more from this great franchise. Deciding that being called a bitch (Sticks and Stones) by a human is enough to get him to intrude in the final battle was very ANTI CLIMATIC and the killing of Sentinel Prime by Optimus Prime was not a PRIME like act where Optimus had always granted mercy to his fallen Opponent. The sudden ending with no explanation what of happened to several characters was also a equal let down.

    Some things to ponder.

If the humans could just shoot everything out the sky with missiles why did they not do that at the beginning of the fight?

    What happened to Sam's parents?

Where is the dialogue between robots? There is no story development involving the actual Transformers themselves. It is like Michael Bay substitutes story and dialogue with EXPLOSIONS!

What is the point of running around the city just randomly running into different buildings only to be attacked and then run some more?

Could anyone tell what any decepticons alternate mode was other then Soundwave and Megatron?

Why did the Decepticons not just kill Sam when they had a chance it seemed like it would make things alot easier.

What was the point of the Tentacle monster? If the tentacle monster can just destroy a entire building why did it take its time trying to kill the human occupants? Why did they not just use it to level the entire city?

What was up with the flying squirrel routine? Also do the Decepticons sensors not pick up humans? There are humans running around the buildings with huge guns and they just not notice that they are being sniped or attacked and just get taken out with the greatest of ease. Humans can just randomly pop up and put explosives on them. Why not do that before?

Why can you not tell what a Robots alternate mode is while they are in Robot mode. What is that a Jumbled mess of metal? Watching a Michael Bay version of Transformers is like trying to identify a several figures out of a Toy lot on Shopgoodwill.com

My girlfriend would point out Soundwave is not a Car and Megatron is not a gun and I would be like I know it makes no sense. The alternate modes have no use except for travel purposes. Soundwave as a tape deck is much cooler because he could be a robot in disguise and gather intel as a recording device.

There really is no Character development and the robots do not have personality like the older G1 cartoon renditions had.

I will say one good thing from the movie was the performance from Alan Tudyk
He was great. His scenes were funny and really stole the movie in a way. Everytime he came on screen he made me smile. Made me remember how great Firefly was and how much I miss that show.

I will not miss Michael Bay's Version of Transformers. It really is a movie filled with mindless violence , little story , head ache inducing special effects with to much detail , and of course EXPLOSIONS! - Watch Adult Swim Video: Robot Chicken

You're entitled to your opinion but I disagree about the Autobot deaths- I felt they were well timed and gave a lot of weight to the story. By killing off the third most known Autobot, who we have grown to know pretty well over the trilogy, you really cemented Sentinel's betrayal and that he was a serious threat. Even though I do wish Q spoke a little more throughout the movie, it still was very sad to see him brutally and mercilessly executed by the Decepticons. Plus, it added further weight when they used the same tracking shot as Bee was about to meet his end, and more importantly, it made his victory against Soundwave all the more emotionally satisfying.

I disagree. Ironhide's death was quote the shock, as he was a character who had been around for all three films was probably the minor Autobot with the most development. Sentinel killing him was a pretty major way of showing his betrayal.

Que, on the other hand, was just chosen because they needed someone to die to increase the intensity of the scene. While I liked the character, I don't disagree with the choice.

Mostly trailer shots, and to give Shia something to do. I would hardly list that as a geniune problem with the film, though. That just seems like a major nitpick.

Don't forget the scene at the beginning, where the core three Decepticons had their little meeting. Megatron even got a nice character moment of proclaiming a broken "all hail Megatron" to an audience of African animals, no less.

False on the first point. It wasn't Carly calling him a bitch, it was Carly making him realize that Sentinel Prime was just using him. Megatron was about to crush her, but then he realized the truth in her words. Pretty weak way to get Megatron to intervene (and give Rosie a point to be in the film), but that's how it happened.

As for the battle, I cannot disagree. In the context of the film series's crazy homicidal maniac Prime, it fit. In the context of any other Optimus Prime/general heroic protagonist, it's jarring and unfitting.

I may be misremembering, but weren't they out of range/didn't have enough troops or supplies?

Sam told them to leave, get out of Washington, so they did. Really no point in them coming back, unless they left for Chicago.

Again, could be wrong here, but I thought they were trying to get close enough to shoot one of the pillars?

Sure. Starscream was a jet. Barricade was a police car. The tan Brawl-clone was a tank. The Sideways-clone was a car. I don't really understand this question.

Because they needed someone to get close to Optimus in order to find out his next move. Killing him would be counterproductive.

They needed something to look cool in the trailer, and plot devices. That's pretty much it.

I don't think they ever even had the chance before. At least not in the film. They did all that as soon as they arrived. The wingsuits were all Bay's thing. He saw them on 60 Minutes or something and HAD to have them in his movie.

It takes a good eye, but you usually can. That's just the design style.

Wait, what? Soundwave is a car, and of course Megatron's not a gun, because that would be stupid. Michael Bay was wise enough to know that.

While the G1 characters definitely did have more personality, there was little to no character development outside a singular episode, aside from Hot Rod, obviously.

But yeah, I can't disagree here, either. The Transformers are treated as props and plot devices, not characters. That's why the Mexican Standoff scene really shines, IMO.

You summed up the films pretty well, yeah.

I'm not going to deny that these films are crap. Fun, cool-looking crap, but crap nonetheless. If we get a new film with a new director, the only hope I have is that he understands that the Transformers are characters, and should be treated as such. Character development, more screentime with just a few 'Bots or 'Cons, anything to make them less like walking plot devices.

I will agree with your statement somewhat. But I do add that this was no where as heart felt as watching Ironhide perish at Megatron's hand in the original 1985 film. I still cry when I watch that scene. And let us not even bring up Optimus death and what it did to million of kids in the mid 80's.

I just think that the SUDDEN betrayal of Sentinel was not well timed and that when they were protecting him from the Decepticons on the highway he should of switched allegiance then instead of waiting to go back to NEST or where ever they were keeping him. When Optimus offered him the Matrix why did he not take it and then just kill Optimus?

There are holes in this story as big as the Grand Canyon.

How did Q get caught to begin with? Did I miss something?

I'm pretty sure they also had no recon within the city, and so no way to acquire the targets for the missiles.

I appreciate your response. It does help me understand the movie a little more when I think about it.

I liked DOTM. It was certainly better then ROTF, but i will admit it did has it's flaws. My main gripe was the abrupt ending and drastic shifts in tone. The ending was an atrocity, I mean the last shot was of Optimus without an arm and the speech was really short. There was no after math scene like in the first movie and even in ROTF. In the first movie it shows them on the hill at sunset and in ROTF it shows them on the battle ship. I would have been fine with the speech of DOTM as long as there was an after scene like Ratchet repairing Optimus' arm or something like that. Another thing that thing that ticked me off were the vomit inducing shifts in tone. Optimus is talking about getting to the ark and telling Mearing to pray its in time and it shifts to Sam going to Carly's job. In the intro it shows Nixon talking to Buzz and Neil and that last shot of Sentinel's face with his epic theme playing and changes to Carly's ass walking up the stairs. DOTM was better than ROTF like he promised, but it was plagued with other problems. I guess those are really the only two things that bothered me, other than that, I loved the movie.

Well, here's my review of the film. It's from my blog on another site.

    -------------------------------------------------------------

Fallen warriors, war-torn soldiers, and disciples betrayed by their mentors are the types of characters found in a particular scifi adventure that was recently in theaters. Invoking feelings of sadness, sympathy, inspiration, and amazement, these characters create a memorable experience as they play their roles in one of the most incredible visual tales of this generation of film. Godlike, mechanical beings desperate to revive their war-ravaged planet enact the biggest of their schemes to fulfill their goal in the latest installment of the Bayverse cinematic series: Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Accentuated by a diverse and beautiful score which can instill sorrow for its saddest moments, awe for its impressive action sequences, and enthusiasm for its scenes of heroism, Dark of the Moon is a film which spans the entire emotional spectrum and subsequently has something that everyone can enjoy. Each of these emotions is tied to a particular character, through their individual history, motives, and actions. For example, Optimus' references to Sentinel's past as his mentor and the previous leader of the Autobots creates a sense of majesty and honor whenever Sentinel is on screen. Once more, this sense is reaffirmed when Sentinel is viewed in battle; he is fierce, imposing, and very skilled. Yet, when Sentinel reveals that he has defected to the Decepticons, a sense of sadness and disappointment is projected as such a great and legendary warrior falls from grace and betrays his apprentice. On the other hand, concerning Megatron, a sense of sympathy arises when his badly damaged face is shown and when he is spoken to with such pity by his minion, Starscream, who says to him, Oh, my poor master. How it pains me to see you so wounded, so weak....

Adding to the dimensions of these characters and the feelings they invoke are the colorful and insightful lines of dialogue that they utter. Optimus Prime speaks some very inspiring words moments before boarding the Zanthium; looking down upon Sam he says, You may lose your faith in us, but never in yourselves. From here, the fight will be your own. He does so again later on in the film when he says, Your leaders will now understand: Decepticons will never leave your planet alone. And we needed them to believe we had gone. For today, in the name of freedom, we take the battle to them! Other lines which are among the film's best are those spoken by Megatron. Sitting in an alley while looking up at his home-planet which has been brought into Earth's orbit, Megatron says to himself Cybertron, you are saved...at last. Also, when he is faced with the truth regarding his diminished role as leader of the Decepticons, he says It is me, it will always be me. These lines reveal the deepest layers of Megatron's personality; he has a soft spot for his planet and is prideful of his role as its leader.

Complementing the interesting characters and the wonderful dialogue of the film are its large scale and technically impressive action sequences. As for other films which can compare with Dark of the Moon in this aspect, there are none. There are sequences of Cybertronian ships cruising through the honeycomb-like structure of Cybetron at lightening speeds, giant snake-like mechanical creatures constricting and razing skyscrapers, twenty-eight foot tall robots flying through the skyline of Chicago, and terrifying-looking Decepticons running along car-filled highways. All of these sequences are done very well with the most realistic computer generated imagery layed over real enivoronments and practical effects.

For those unfortunate not to have seen this film in theaters, especially in 3D, a great experience has been passed over. Dark of the Moon is filled with interesting characters who create an emotionally diverse and visually stunning experience.

    Score: 9.5/10

Either you are talking about protoforms who don't have Earth modes or you're just hating the aesthetics.
Oh please. That would look stupid. And if it's so cool ,then why all other cartoons of Transformers didn't make Soundwave as a tape deck and Megatron as a gun?

The film was alright, I was a bit disappointed.
I think they definitely could have made it a tad longer with the addition of some better pacing/characterization scenes (Like mourning Ironhide or something)

    Perhaps a little more story?

DOTM was a dissapointing conclusion to a disapointing vision Michael Bay had of the Transformers.

The problem i have with the trilogy is that their is no vision from the get-go. Megatron's backstory is waaaaay to contridictive. The Charecter of Sam Witwicky is irratating espicially in ROTF with the "SAM Y U NO LOVE ME?" and in DOTM with the "I need to matter, I don't want a real job". Most of the humans like Sam's parents served no true purpose and when they appear it makes the movie awkward and disjointed. And when Celebrities like Ken Joeng and John Malkovitch (yes people i like a lot) appear in the movie they serve no other reason but to play annoying charecters.

However DOTM did have more surprises like Sentinel's betrayal and Leonard Nimoy did do a good job. Dutch was awesome too, he should have always been in the franchise since the first movie. The Fact Sentinel had a really conflicting charecter i respect a lot.

Dino was overhyped and barely did anything rememorable.....And the final battle was anti-climatic and Honestly i wish we had a truce from Prime and Megatron. Also Shockwave should have teamed up with Shockwave but what we got out of Shockwave was Boba Fett (Looks cool but appears a few minutes and then dies a anticlimatic death).

The Ending just ends their without explaing what no....No rebuild of Chicago, Hell i would settled for Sam and Carly's wedding.

Overall I'm glad it's over and please no TF4 i just want a reboot that tells a good story and makes you actually follow the story and feel the charecter development while still having great Special effects a lot like the Star Wars Trilogy (ANH, ESB and ROTJ) did.

How come youre complaining about Soundwabe not being a tape recorder? No mass shifting in the movies, on the Cybertronians at least.

There's no problem with about him not being the tape recorder. It makes much more sense having him transform in something that matches his mass.
