The commander of Megatron's special "Destructor" squadron, Megatron looks at Steelgrave as everything he thinks Starscream isn't: efficient, loyal and dedicated to the Decepticon cause. A gifted and charismatic speaker, Steelgrave is respected and liked by many of his fellow Decepticons, and even some Autobots admit a begrudging respect for him. In reality, his charismatic exterior hides his own ambition, and the fact that is utterly insane. Steelgrave dreams of taking over the Decepticon forces every bit as much as his fellow Air Commander. Above all else, however, Steelgrave is driven by an almost irrational hatred of humanity. It's whispered among his fellow Destructors that he once had a vision of a world free of humanity, lead by the Decepticons and ultimately under his rule. With his fellow Destructors Terradive, Space Case, Gouge and Sawtooth, he might have the unit to make his dreams a reality. Steelgrave can transform either of his arms into cannons capable of firing quick bursts of plasma, but his preferred weapon is his vibro-chisel. When activated, this fearsome weapon heats to thousands of degrees while vibrating at super-sonic speeds. He'll often aim the weapon at an opponent's spark chamber, and rarely misses the target. It has earned him the nickname "Slaughter" Steelgrave among those who know just how sadistic he truly is. This was my first time trying to paint an entire piece by hand, using Model Master acrylics. While I'm still learning, I'm pretty thrilled to have an updated Starrior on my shelf.
Thanks for all the kind words! I'm giving thought to, once I get back from vacation later this month, trying to hunt down two more Terradives on the cheap and do Gouge and Sawtooth, though Gouge might be a bit trickier since the original color scheme was so close to Steelgrave's. I think the Terrradive mold would look awesome in purple as Sawtooth.
I love that mini-series. I went running around OKC to try and find the fourth issue after I found 1-3. I think the concept of Starriors is pretty cool, and I'd love to see them brought back somehow. I love the Dead Eye idea! I'd probably be too nervous to pull it off, though. =p
The head is from a 2007 movie Salvage figure, with the face plate painted red and a very slight mod(I sanded down the fins on the back of his head to points, to mirror the original figure).
