In the series defense, the Japanese headmaster concept is different than the US. The head is the Transformer, and the body is just a giant mech he pilots as the head. It's a way for the small robots to be bigger and more powerful. They're not two different robots working together ( or one robot and one humanoid fleshling ).

I couldn't get past the first few episodes. Everything about it just seemed ******ed and watching it felt like my eyes were being raped.

Headmasters were more broing in the american continuity, where they were partners to their bodies, than in the japanese continuity, where the bodies were inanimate. It was cool to see these nebulons become bros with their partners and then learn from eachother.

Would a popped collar get in the way of the binary bonding process?

And making Arcee useless, and always concentrated on Headmasters, and Galvatron had more than enough time to escape before getting blasted, and having Skorponok as leader it was kinda weird and not fun.

I initially loathed Headmasters just as you all did so I can definitely see where you're coming from. I hated it because of what it did with the continuity; it fell victim to the typical "old characters get shafted in favour of the new ones" scenario pretty bad, with many of them leaving, dying or just flat-out disappearing altogether in an extremely blatant manner, with the gestalts (apart from Raiden obviously) no longer even being the sum of their parts, just a bunch of really big robots. Optimus Prime dies again in a rather worthless manner, but I didn't have even half as big of a problem as the entire frikkin' Cybertron being blown to pieces. Seriously, the entire past series had concentrated on the prospect of Autobots taking back their home planet to some extent or another - and now it was gone.

Now, while this was an obvious plot to force future stories place more emphasis on earth, it made me realize that Zarak was now officially really, really f***ing evil. This would continue with him torturing Chromedome's childhood friends, first for information and then just for the hell of it, to a point where I was actually genuinely feeling sorry for Chromedome in spite of his attitude, solely because of all the horrible things that seemed to keep happening to him.

It was even before Victory that my opinion towards Headmasters began to improve, but Victory made it improve tenfold by being really that boring.

Victory would've actually been watchable to me if Deszaras had been as despicable in his action as Zarak was. The complete one-dimensionality of the Autobots wouldn't have stopped me from rooting for them if they would've had an enemy of proper caliber like Zarak was.

lol that's a bootleg all right.

Scrap you! Japan, I missed Rodimus, Ultra Magnus, Springer, Kup etc. Come in thinking of it i'd rather watch G1 Season 3 than Headmasters, as I find G1 Season 3 actually fun to watch as I accepted Rodimus Prime as the Leader and Ultra Magnus as second in command and Galvatron more demonoc and evil than Headmasters

I'm not all the way through and though it's silly and yawn inducing it's STILL better than The Rebirth...

dude you better watch what you say, i am a huge victory fan. i've tried to watch headmasters, but it really sucks compare to victory, victory is enjoyable! the destrons have great personality. the cybertrons might be a bit bland outside star saber, they really do have their moments.

headmasters is just a whole ball of BLEH

LOL By the time you get all the way through Headmasters you will have changed that opinion about The Rebirth 180 degrees! AND that's not saying much!

Wait till you see the digression of Sixshots character from ultimate BADASS to Daniels little BITCH in a couple of episodes time. Yeah, I know "WTF"? When it was all said and done, I was(AND STILL) like: "what the fuck did I just watch?"

This implies Star Saber is also not the blandest blander that ever blanded. The extent of his personality is "has a sword".

There have also been accusations that Star Saber snuck food and wet the bed.

Headmasters is pointless to watch without the Omni English dub. It's that funny.

Yeah, I have this set too. It seems to be based on the 1990s Sunbow masters, which explains the "wrong" opening and ending credits. Alongside the Omni dub, there is a Chinese dub on all the episodes too (bit extravagant for a bootleg). Either way, it's a pity that this particular set is the only English-friendly one that features all the in-episode footage for Headmasters.
