Not necessarily. Assuming they play by the same rules as most living things on Earth, a species as long lived as Transformers should be offset by a very low population number.

Yes indeed. Thats one of my major grunts in TF3 . Yea right, earth saved. The 'bots stand in line proudly , oblivious to the fact that their home Planet destroyed/semi-destroyed, didnt show any emotion/attachment to it or their fellow species possibly dying en-masses during the whole teleportation (failure) event. There is NOT a single scene in TF3 showing any kind of cybertronians in Cybertron reacting to "huh... why is my planet seemed to be shifting/glowing" ? At least the director can foreshadow upcoming characters for TF4 using such scene.

So I assume cybertron was a barren piece of planet with 99% of inhabitants floating/finding asylum all over the galaxy.

It was, the Autobots declared Earth was their new home since the very first film, only Megatron and the Cons cared about Cybertron, and that was purist hate because they refused to accept the fact that their planet was dead and the Humans and the Earth was equal in terms with the Transformers and their planet.

The novel, "Exodus", which is pretty much movie inspired, but also fits in WFC (sorta) and many other continuities (in a way) pretty much sums up what people are looking to know in the thread.

The AllSpark is the only thing that grants TFs life -now-. They may have had other means to creating new TFs in the past, but no longer. Once it was lost, no more TFs.

OP's first major command decision was to create a fleet of ships and to get the Autobots away from Cybertron. To the other colony worlds (at the time thought lost, and forgotten by modern TFs), to find the Allspark, to find a new home, to find hope.

Cybertron, even before the war instigated by Megatron and his Decepticon movement, was a failing civilization. Things were going downhill fast, and no modern TF could match the glories of the past during the golden age.

The TFs are a dying race, whose glories are behind them. Especially in the movieverse. The only thing they can hope to do now is to help others and pass on their knowledge and the lessons of their mistakes before they die.

    At least, for the Cybertronians.

There are other colony worlds. Gigantion, Velicotron/Vehiconia, and the Hub, to name a few. All have left Cybertron before the downfall, during the Golden Age. It is possible that they have other means of reproduction, or have evolved different in the millions and millions of years of isolation than the Cybertronian TFs. As of now, we don't have any information one way or the other about them, if they're even in the movieverse at all, or anything else.

So as it stands: Yes, they're a dying, near extinct race. In the movies, definitely. At least the ones from Cybertron.

The first movie flat-out states that TWICE:

"Before time began, there was the Cube. We know not where it comes from, only that it holds the power to create worlds and fill them with life. That was how our race was born. For a time, we lived in harmony, but like all great power, some wanted it for good, others for evil. And so began the war - a war that ravaged our planet until it was consumed by death, and the Cube was lost to the far reaches of space. We scattered across the galaxy, hoping to find it and rebuild our home, searching every star, every world. And just when all hope seemed lost, message of a new discovery drew us to an unknown planet called...Earth. But we were already too late." - Optimus Prime.

"With the AllSpark gone, we cannot return life to our planet. And fate has yielded its reward: a new world to call... home. We live among its people now, hiding in plain sight... but watching over them in secret... waiting... protecting. I have witnessed their capacity for courage, and though we are worlds apart, like us, there's more to them than meets the eye. I am Optimus Prime, and I send this message to any surviving Autobots taking refuge among the stars: We are here... we are waiting." - Optimus Prime.

Besides those occasions, the rest of the movie heavily implies the race is almost extinct [like showing that apparently, only five Autobots are alive], ROTF also gives a implication of that [as plot of the villains is centered around the lack of Energon], DOTM as well [y'know, the whole "rebuilding Cybertron" plot of Sentinel].

The a race composed by billions, and counting every Autobot and Decepticons seen in them movies [including the ones already dead], we barely reach 200, and of those 200, only five were left.

    "Screwed" is a massive understatement.

The TF race ever since G1 was portrayed as a dying race. Constant warfare and energy shortage always made them an endangered species.

The Sun Harvester plan working and the Allspark returned to movie Cybertron is akin to G1 Cybertron receiving its second golden age. If we connect that fact with the Beast era it increased the population by the billions.

Sentinel Prime had a point. What war destroyed they can rebuild but only if they work with the Decepticons. But that was in Decepticon terms not Autobot.

Which pretty much what happened Post-Armada in TF Energon. Bots and Cons setting aside their differences. That alliance was under Autobot terms.

Ever notice that the Allspark only seemed to create Decepticons anyway?

Not Decepticon but non-sentient feral animals. Orci explained the Allspark creates soulless machines. Its real purpose is the power Cybertron. Allspark mutants do not have also a spark like Cybertronians.

As seen in ROTF in the Nemesis there is another means of creating Transformers.

y'know,,, I'm going to have to suck it up and watch ROTF again.
There was so much in that movie that had me groaning I swear it seems like I missed half of it.

People talk about scenes I don't remember, and things happend so fast in some parts I missed things.

Yes, it's been hinted that the TFs are almost extinct, and the last few keep fighting each other.

Just think about it, the great autobot leader made and open invitation to earth and only the twins, arcees and sideswipe arrived.

Love the Titan AE reference. And I'm sure Bay did this so that no one would be able to pick up his series.

There's still the matrix of leadership and as of yet, no mention of Vector Sigma, which can still be worked in. Maybe the two together can create a new planet, or transform an existing one into a metallic world (like Mars), like how Megatron tried to change Earth into a new cybertron in that one episode where he finds the Key to vector sigma.

Found it(jumps to scene at 6:28):

This. I'm very interested in how they are gonna bring back the movie franchise, i think that line sums up whats gonna happen to the movies. They may make a fourth but without the well known decepticons it wont do aswel. Megatron and Starscream are needed at the very least.
