It's a phrase of hate leveled at a person who likes G1 more than other shows and came about back in '06 when the 1st movie was in production. At first it was stated in the media at the time that it was going to be a G1 movie, and that the robot designs were going to be like Alternators. However, when the script was leaked and concept art started leaking people began to say "hey, that aint G1".

Then there was the people who actually liked the concept art, and then the divisions started.

There was some dude named Cliffy B who had a blog at the time who said that if Bay did not use Cullen as Optimus then his childhood would be raped.
So that gave the movie fans licens to apply "raped my childhood" to anyone who didn't like anything from the leaked script or didn't like a robot design.

 

I agree this is not meant to be G1; it's its own universe. However the rest of your statement is a fallacy.
Though it may not be G1, Bayformers is heavily referencing it.

Optimus Prime, Jazz, Ravage, and to a lesser extent, even Long Haul. Though over complicated and splintery;those four characters are heavily based on their G1 counter parts. Prime, Jazz, and Ravage physically resemble what they looked like in G1.

Also DOTM's plot was pretty much 3 G1 episodes wrapped up in one movie. So to say Bayformers had nothing in common with g1 is not accurate.

Bayformers does not have Minicons, no cyber planet keys, and no one yells out 'beast mode'. Plus the last name 'Witwicky' is Spikes last name from G1. So Bayformers primarily uses both original ideas, and G1 references.

well, I know people that complains about just EVERYTHING in movies (designs... "story", humans, Bay, explosions, different clothes in a same scene, re-used footage, Bumblebeak being just a Pink bee 'cause the designers are lazy fat old men, Brains being a little Bee with another head and stuff like that)
and as far I know, what they wanted was a G1 live action movie or at least with digital animation... but you know, that would have worked, but just for maybe 1 movie...
what movies did was to expand the transformers universe again, as RID, A/E/C, Animated, WFC and Prime, is an all new universe, obviously there must be some references to G1 to maintain it as Transformers (with a bit is enough... you know, Autobots and Decepticons, Earth, Optimus and Megatron, this time was a Witwicky too, Carly too, and even some parts of the plot copied from some G1 chapters)
even with that, some guys are now complaining about how DOTM "copied" G1 episodes... and unoriginality, not blocky designs (calling "amorphous bugs" to the new designs), or simply that they are not the G1 characters they knew when they were child (or even saying that the new OP is too cruel to be a hero for the kids of this generation), damn, not all OP must be the same, I think it's enough with having a similar design and the name
now for the other side, movie fans (I refuse to call them "Bay fans" 'cause most of they AREN'T), doesn't complain too much about similarities about G1 and movieverse, but instead complain about the G1 fans (I refuse to call then "geewunners" this time) complaining about new stuff (OP character, plotlines, design and other stuff I mentioned earlier), and even goes further
but even with that, THIS is transformers fandom, and you must know EVERYONE will hate something of any TF universe, everyone... it may be a character, an episode, the whole TF universe, or even... not being G1 enough for some tastes (I say that 'cause I don't see anybody complaining about movies not being... I dunno, RID enough, A/E/C enough, Animated enough or even Prime enough)

Transformers was introduced when I was a kid, it was my favorite toy/cartoon. So yea, G1 will always be special to me because it brings back so many childhood memories. That being said I really liked the movies. Most of my complaints were aimed at lame humor and poor usage of main characters, not because it wasn't like G1. I do agree though that a lot of people complain way too much, but I guess that's what these forums are for. I'm glad I was able to enjoy the movies.

That's the reason I can't understand both sides.
The movieverse doesn't have anything to do with G1, except the names. And those names can be reassigend to whatever they want. Now they assigned them to their own characters, which are based on the action figures (those little plastic figures, most of the guys here are collecting) not the characters of the 80s cartoon.

It isn't that they want these characters back, it's that they want all these characters back so they can have the same adventure and Optimus can go die.

Well I think some of the G1 ques they took in the movies certainly didn't hurt. They are different realities, but it doesn't follow that one should be entirely divorced from the other.

If you've seen some of the early Optimus designs for instance, I'm glad they revised the head to the more G1 look in the final version. It goes a long way towards making it a design I can accept as Optimus Prime without hurting the believability of it. I also don't think it hurt to have the character voiced by Peter Cullen.

Just because G1 is a quarter century ago doesn't mean it's all useless. Obviously changes have to be made for a live action movie, but if you can retain some of the iconic aspects of it, that will only strengthen the final product. I was very happy with how the Shockwave design came out. They could've taken the whole fuck G1 approach and started from scratch, but the fact that it's still recognisably Shockwave is a plus.

 

Nah, I just wonder about the massive debates and heated arguments for the smallest issues.

I can't speak for everyone, but it doesn't bother me if someone dislikes/hates something I like, just don't say I'm a stupid idiot for liking/hating something you hate/like.
