We don't know enough about either of these characters to make any assumptions about their leadership potential.

 

Ratchet. His main role might technically be a medic, but he has been on the front lines fighting in every movie, and was even barking some orders to other Autobots in DOTM.

 

I would say Ratchet.

I think it was more circumstances at hand, not Optimus's little sidekick, because if that was the case, then he would have brought Ironhide. He took the most logical Autobot on the mission.

And at that time, Sideswipe was more or less, Ironhide' sidekick.

Well, due to the fact that Sideswipe is trained by Ironhide, which would be a huge honor, I would think Ironhide's considerable experience (probably more than even Optimus's) would have rubbed off on Sideswipe, and Sideswipe would have the tactics, and youth and speed on his side, not to mention he seems to be an all around likable guy. So of course, I chose Sideswipe. Here's hoping that if there is a continuation of the movies, we see alot of him.

I wanted to make this into a poll myself, but I didn't want to bait in some debate. But I'm glad you did! Sideswipe, as little as we seen of him, became an instant favorite across the boards. You'd think TPTB would stop giving Autobots other than Optimus Prime and Bumblebee the shaft!

Here's hoping that maybe Sideswipe and Bumblebee would have a great team up in future movies!

More experience equals better decision making. Ratchet is the second in command with Ironhide gone. Sideswipe could be a decent leader, but theres no way he's higher in the ranks than Ratchet. I'm guessing Ratchet has been around Prime more, so Prime may trust him more as well. I bet Optimus Prime would want Bumblebee to lead before Sideswipe. Nothing against Sideswipe, I like his character, I just don't feel like he's earned it yet

 

Why can't anyone simply argue with me? It's not like I'm massively derailing the thread or calling people stupid, I am simply proving a point,lisn't that the reason of the thread? To discuss who should be the second-in-command? That's what I'm doing!

clearly he was giving orders to the other bots.

 

2nd in command is Ratchet but the top field general is clearly Sideswipe. I bet you when they got captured Ratchet was leading them lol.

 

Its sideswipe, as demonstrated in the film:

"que hurry up, time to roll"

"ratchet, cover high"

"Cover optimus"

"autobots attack"

He took charge of the team in chigago

Ratchet, because he's been there since the start and he went to the Moon with Prime.

Sideswipe is just a Autobot fighter like Mirage, and he never behaves like he's second in command.

 

Ratchet is Sideswipe's superior (he was even Optimus' moon buddy). Sideswipe is a grunt, equal to Dino.
