i seen the movie again and this time it just kept getting better and better. I will say this i keep reading how Dark Prime was and how wimpy Megatron was. If you remember correctly G1 Megs was never really bold and hardcore till the movie in which he was reformatted. Optimus will defend the rights of the humans and i think he was just feed up i thought it fit well finally Prime was kicking ass and taking names. After seeing it again the plot seem to fit together better. Well worth the price on 3D

Finally saw the movie last night! Don't have time to go into full detail, so I'll keep it short:

It was ok. Definitely wasn't as bad as ROTF, luckily. Don't hate it, but I don't find myself really liking it either. Just felt like 2+ hours of stuff happening, and I didn't really leave the theatre with an opinion going either way.

Some really weird choices when it comes to scene cuts. 3D was GREAT, but I couldn't find myself be wowed by all the action anymore. Maybe too much or too unfocused action has that effect on me - had the same during the ROTF forest fight.

    ALERT, SPOILERS ABOUND

I saw it in 3D, got pissed at all the freakish saluvating tenticle spewing Alien vs Predator vs Men In Black portrayals of the Decepticons, and Tales of the Krypt designed Autobots... not to mention Shockwave was a mindless drone that I thought was very poorly done. He served no purpose other than to stand around while that tenticle centipede thingy chased all the humans.

Overall I don't get the hype that other people are seeing. Alot of things about it sucked, but there were some goood things. I really enjoyed Sentinal Prime and thought Leonard Nimoy was awesome in this movie, as was Shia LeBeouf and Peter Cullen. This was Peter's best bay movie performance to date. There was a lot of action, and I like that humans actually suffered casualties at the cold hands of the Decepticons. That was the ONLY good thing that was done in this movie regarding the portrayal of the Decepticons. Everything else with them sucked. How did Megatron and Soundwave just show up as cars and trucks without any explanation? It doesn't fit, and neither does all the slimey features they gave all the generic Decepticons and Shockwave. They're supposed to be ROBOTS not insectizoid creatures from the Abyss. Worst of all is they only served to be 1 dimensional monsters.

I also didn't quite get how Sentinal Prime could act that way towards his friends who just saved his life in order to keep some kind of alliance with enemies who just killed him. It seems unrational and unbelievable for any decent character to do. None the less in movie terms it does make for a good swerve and a catchy twist.

That being said, I thought Shia was BRILLIANT. Shia has a natural charisma and a perfect sense of timing with his humours manurisms. I could totally see him doing stand up comedy. And his emotion was right on part with what you'd expect from a character in those situations.

    Just realised.

If you watch DotM backwards it's a heartwarming story about Optimus Prime building a robot to look after orphans in Africa.

    Hey guys, Agonize here :)

I'm from the Netherlands and I've seen DOTM ... TWICE. Once in IMAX3D and once in Real3D. God, IMAX3D, what an experience. Anyway, here's hoping they release an extended cut. Or atleast SOME deleted scenes. Why I'm hoping for that? Well, something felt ... off, quite a few times actually.

First, let me start by the Twins. You can CLEARLY see them roll up with the Autobots in the Hangar. A forum member even stated that, you could hear one scream : "Mudflap!" ... I tried listening for that on my second view but couldn't hear it. I didn't hate them, like others did. They could've been toned down and still get the proper closure. I LOVED their comic book ending. Go out in a blaze. Oh well, maybe they are on the Bluray.

Another was the way some characters got introduced. It's GREAT that we finaly got Mirage, Wheeljack ( screw Dino and Que! ) and Shockwave. They looked GREAT considering the amount of screentime they received. But again, like Revenge of the Fallen, the Transformers ( new ones ) barely even get a proper introduction. I wasn't suprised at all that a guy next to me said : "Yeah, that giant worm is Shockwave. I dont know who that other guy is. Never seen him in the cartoons before!" ... THAT, my fellow members, made me want to shove my foot up his ass. For all the right reasons. Shockwave, being the awesome G1 robot he was, is criminaly underused. Which, I think, was a shame. Megatron didn't do shit so I was kind-of hoping that Shockwave stepped up and took care of business. That was, untill I realised Sentinel Prime defected to the Decepticons. Great voice-acting by Leonard Nimoy.

"Indeed I am. But you must realise, my Autobot Brothers, that we would never going to win the war. For the sake of our planets survival a deal had to be made ... with Megatron".

Again, remember what I typed earlier. They introduce certain Transformers but NEVER get around introducing them properly. If you WANT to put your own touch on things atleast take the time to introduce everyone properly. This never happened in Revenge of the Fallen.

After that, everything kind of fell into place. That is ... untill the destruction of Starscream. Here comes Bee, saving Sam and Lennox and 2 minutes later, Sam is seen inside a small SUV, hiding from Decepticons, and Bee, Wheeljack, Mirage are seen on their knees ... apparently, captured. Wait, what? Did I blink? Did I just BLINK in a Michael Bay movie?! Again, lets hope they "fix" this for a Bluray edition.

The action, music and some of those moments that were missing in Revenge of the Fallen are back. My girlfriend teared up when Bumblebee "said" his goodbye to Sam. She teared up again in shock; ... "Is Soundwave REALLY gonna kill Bee? If he DOES I'm gonna kick his metal-ass!" she said ...

    All-in-all, I loved the movie.

    - Highway Scene. Screw that they used parts from The Island. Couldn't care less. It was awesome.
    - Sentinel vs Optimus vs Megatron. What a scene that was! Everyone who loved the novel ending, here's why I dont think that worked. Megatron killed DOZENS of Autobots. A truce with someone who wants complete domination? No thank you. Yes, he saved Optimus just in time ... but if your enemy, whom you hated your entire life, was distracted for just a second ... what would you do?
    - Sentinels double-cross. Great piece of dialogue. Shame Ironhide had to bite the dust. But, seeing as he was the strongest on that time ... it was the most "logical" choice for Spock-Pr... I mean, Sentinel Prime.
    - Autobot "Execution". Damn, my girlfriend teared up when she saw Wheeljack get murdered like that. Great scene, although ... how are they captured in the first place? :p

Anyway, this movie is a SOLID 7/10 for me. I loved it.

People saying "Why did Optimus kill Megatron after he saved his life?"

Megatron did not do what he did to save Optimus, he did not shoot Sentinel to stop him from exicuting Optimus (in a non direct way he did save Optimus but that was not Megatrons aim), Carly made him realise that already all the Decepticons are taking orders from Sentinel and thus eventually Sentinel would kind of have a leader role on Earth and Cybertron and not Megs.

Optimus had ever right to kill Megatron...yeah and wot? He stabbed him in the back, killed Jazz and thousands of other Autobots and now he's planning to enslave mankind...so yeah he has the right to kill him.

    Anyway....

I too thought the ending was a bit abrupt! I mean no proper closure...infact it felt rushed.

Optimus killing Sentinel after Sentinel realising what he has done was a bit cold...no mercy from Optimus. It just didn't feel right for me...don't get me wrong I didn't mind him going on a killing spree, its the way he treated Sentinel that just doesnt sit well with me. After all he was a father figure to him I mean it felt like there was no emotion, no sort of second thoughts from Opitums, he just pulled the trigger and bang!
Maybe what Sentinel said to him during the fight was racing through his mind, "You were always the bravest warrior but you could never make the hard desicions!" Something along those lines anyway.

Now that I've started i might as well point out the other things that bothered me a bit.

Like everyone else said...some sort of recignition of Ironhides death. No one and I mean no one mentions it...anywhere.
Poor guy, he was one of my favs too. I can only imagine what Ironhide would of done in Chicago...man he would of loved blowing the shit out of Decepticons there....RIP.

Editing was awful...I mean theres the scene where Sentinel talks about the Space Bridge and his Pillars, a scene with gravitas and what happens next? we cut to Dylan's building with F-ing U2 playing?!?! WTF?
The same with Sentinel's attack on NEST! Ironhide was just killed maybe a dozen NEST guys and we cut to Sam's mum talking about "She comes first" or some shit like that.
I mean come on man, i was even surprised at Sam's character at how calm he was listening to her after what he just witnessed...I mean some serious shit is going down and he sits there listening. I know i know that scene was there to be driving force for Sam's love for Carly, for going into Chicago etc. but they could of shown that early on before Sentinel's betrayal.

The main problem with this film and ROTF is a scene gets set off there's a build up to something big and then just cuts to something irrelevant hence disruppting the tempo, the flow of the movie.

Again people also mention the execution scenes...errr how did they all just get captured?
Where the hell were the Wreckers? I dont think I saw them amongst the captured, would of been a perfect scene for them to come in and Wreck some havoc!

Now the scene with Soundwave in Africa.....exactly...how does a Mercedes get to some random desert in Africa and back? Same for Megatron....how does he arrive in Chicago?
This don't bother that much I can over look it:)

Soundwave was OK, prefered his face in ROTF.
Shockwave was wasted...again he wasnt given a proper chance to fight Optimus...his eye was frigging hanging out! That had a potential to be a sick fight but no!
He was like the Darth Maul of DOTM...serious badass...wasted!

I couldn't believe they went ahead and used an Italian accent for Mira...sorry Dino! I was expecting " ah letsa go" and off he goes down a pipe! (No disrespect to Italians)

    Laserbeak was Awsome.

Loved the scene with Optimus and Ratchet on the Moon and the Ark. Great music too. Would of liked that scene to be a bit longer, maybe Ratchet or Optimus come across a friend or "relative" of some sort. Build up character/emotion.

I was really surprised for actually caring about and loving Wheelie and Brains.
For me they were no way like the Twins and yet their humour and dialog was quite funny!
And no they ARE NOT dead...the ship didnt blow up and didn't sink...those two are alive and well...believe me.

When the Autobots are driving into Chicago, the music and Brains shouting "Autobot Victory Autobot Victory" just put a massive smile on my face! And Wheelie sticking his head out..haha brilliant.

The Highway chase scene...WOW!! Absolutly awesome...when I saw that the first time I was like "Shiit now that looks so realistic...and why, the animation of the Dreads...the way Crankcase(?) was sprinting down the highway, you could actually get a sense of the speed and determination of that these guys mean business! Loved to slow downs with them tossing and flipping cars over to form blockades and stuff. One of my fav sccenes from the film.

I'll come to plot holes? someother time.....

The soundtrack is amazing...if you havent got it..get it!
Sentinels theme reminds me of Last Samurai ha! (Me thinks Hans Zimmer might have had a bit mor to do in this one;)  )

I've seen the movie twice now, both times in IMAX:D , and although I really enjoyed the film some things bother me as a TF fan. But hey I'mgoing to watch it again!!
If anything new pops up I'll be back on here ranting about it;)

    p.s.

Loved Nemoy as Sentinel...perfect and the homage and references to Star Trek throughout the film...excellent!:D

    p.s.s.

I think the IMAX version I saw was cropped. Somw shots of Sentinel and of Optimus had a bit of their heads cut off! And the framing in some shots looked weird...like they needed some space to "breath" it felt tight.
The scene with Opitmus laying waste as he flies in felt to close up...the SuperBowl trailer looked wider. I was sitting right at the back too. I'll watch it in some other cinema and see if thats the case.

While I wished the ending would be like in the novel eg, Cybertron returning through the space bridge instead of imploding, Megatron and Optimus actually going with the truce and rebuilding Cybertron, and Skids and Mudflap's heroic sacrifices, that was a kickass movie! I especially enjoyed Optimus's fight scenes! :D

    EDIT: Okay, after reading some sources, considering how Jazz was killed in the first movie along with the deaths of various humans in the remainder, Optimus would probably have been no better than Sentinel if he accepted the truce. My mistake! ^^;

    Saw it today finaly!

More shots of the SLS AMG

    Bumblebee should have killed Barricade

    Why did Ironhide die?

The sets in Chicago were amazing!!

Wish there were more shots of Megatron and his alt mode.

The last Battle between Optimus and Megatron should have been longer, but i understand that Megatron was really weak.

Ironhide should have lived and then kicked Sentinals ass.

What was Ratchet doing while they were in chicago?

yeah we all have our issues with it, but really i thought it was a fantastic movie. cant wait for it to come out on DVD so i can look at every little detail

I just saw DOTM today and I must say that it is a marked improvement over ROTF, though still in my mind not as good as the first one. At least this movie was fairly coherent and not too hard to follow. I'm glad I saw it in 3-D (regular 3-D, not IMAX) as I think that enhanced the whole film.

The final battle in Chicago did go on a bit long (especially the part with the tilting building top) but was no where near as meandering and confusing as the final battle in ROTF. I didn't bother to get a copy of ROTF when it came out on DVD but I will be getting DOTM when it comes out.

I also thought that Laserbeak looked more like a dragon than some kind of a bird, especially since birds haven't had tails for many millions of years + they also showed a trailer for the last HP movie and there was a dragon in that (the flesh and blood kind, of course).

That could also be because I'm not colored by past expectations (I'm a bit of a old fogie around here as my childhood proceeds the original Transformers cartoons/franchise by at least a decade) and am approaching this movie purely as a sci-fi fan.

Regardless of my lack of a connection with the original material, I must say that I absolutely love the designs and styling of all of the Transformers - they are, hands down, the most bad-ass creations in all of Hollywood sci-fi. The aliens from the "Alien" movies used to be my faves (now they are in 2nd place) for artistic design and creativity (speaking as a professional artist here). When I saw the first TF movie in 07' it just blew me away - I was thunderstruck. Total unequivocal thumbs on the design and animation in the whole TF trilogy (even if #2 was a bit of a bomb IMO).

in response to the bolded part, we saw how the Transformers scan vehicles in the first movie, do we really need to see it every time a robot decides to change form? i think not... it's been 4 years since the events of ROTF... at some point, Soundwave came to earth, scanned a vehicle, met up with Megs, who was hiding as a truck, considering hiding as a giant alien tank wouldn't really be considered hiding.
as for teh spitty, drooly bots, thats how the cons have been in all the movies, so why would they change it for this one?

and about SP, he Cons took him down, but when he came back to life he didn't even know where he was or what was going on. and back on cybertron, none of the other Cons knew they were shooting at someone who was helping. Megatron seems to have kept that deal very close to his chest, to avoid any leaks. i think it made perfect sense for SP to do what he did.

i totally agree with the bolded part, he was to DOTM as Darth Maul was to PM, but at least both were there and did something cool.

as for Soundwave and Megatron moving, they could've flown, driven, teleported, scanned jet modes and flew there, then returned to different alt modes, who knows... either way, they go there.

i can't wait to go see this movie again. hopefully i can this week.

OK I have now seen DOTM for the second time. I liked the movie. I liked it better the first time I saw it even with the screaming baby.

There were a few thing I noticed this time that really bother me.

As stated before there were several plot holes. When and how did the autobots get captured.

WTF is the Que character. Wheeljack. Really? That blows. Worst design I have ever seen!!
Which brings me to my second WTF moment.
Why is Mirage red. I'm ok with him as a Ferrari but why does Bay like to change everything we know and love about G1 transformers!?!

With the Wreckers being Nascar and having Mirage even in the movie the least they could have done is have an opening scene on a race track.

OK my other rant is I thought these are Robots in Disguise so why are the Wreckers loaded down with artillery and why does Side swipe not ever have a holographic driver in him? I'm sure that any car driving around the city without a driver is going to attract attention.

I really wish Hasbro had gone with a director that at least watched the series as a child. that fact that Bay didn't even like TFs when he started this is a good sign you should find someone more suited for the job.

The movie made clear that it happened off-screen, I don't know why people complain so much about that.

He WAS a crazy, smart and eccentric weapons-maker.

    Well, techinically..His name is Dino.
Anyway, I don't see how that RUINS the character in any form, is just a minor problem.

    Time constraints.

Here's the thing: Mankind found out about TF's existence in ROTF [don't you remember The Fallen making a world-wide transmission declaring they exist?], use a disguise is now is pretty useless.

so, Statham's gonna b in the next TF movie! @ least, unlike Shia, he'll b drivin one of the Autobots around like he's on The Transporter! so car driving stunts abound!

just saw it today,(i know,i'm late), and i have to say, i give it 8.5/10!

its better, way better, then the second movie without a doubt. is it the best? to me, arguably it is on par with the first movie. some scenes during the Chicago battle took me back to the first movie, which was a good thing. now about the deaths:

ironhide's death was sad, seeing him rust away.
Que's death was also touchingly sad, begging for his life.
Starscream....I LOVED HIM IN THIS MOVIE! when he dropped from the sky and said "what i treat!" when seeing sam and carly, it reminded me of transformersrime's starscream, especially all his whining about being shot in the eye. that ENTIRE SCENE i found funny. his death did not annoy me at all, it was rather amusing and cool.
Soundwave's death was "meh" to me. he was awesome, but went out kinda easily. it didnt annoy me though.
Lazerbeak dying was also "meh", but he was cool
Shockwave was a beast. awesome. it took every soldier and autobot to take him out. his death wasnt annoying, he went out like a true villian, taking EVERYONE to beat him.
Megatron's death annoyed the hell out of me. it was far too quick for a main character.
Sentinel deserved to die, so i didnt complain when i saw prime blast him.

despite the pointed out flaws, this movie isn't bad at all. it had story, emotion, and NOT background characters this time. as far as the dark tone goes, i barely felt it, even when humans died. the only parts i felt it was depressing was when the autobots were leaving, Que died and Bee was next, and it was like an "oooohhh" moment when you see the soldier fall out the building before shockwave's closeup.

all in all, the movie was very well done. 8.5/10

I went to see it on July 1st with my boyfriend. I liked it more than RotF, but not as much as the first film. Still, it was an improvement. It was nice to see Barricade again after him being MIA since near the end of the first film.

I'm not saying that the movie sucked in any way. I did like it and it was a million time better than ROTF.

I'm a G1 guy and it was hard enough to come to terms with mechanical predictor/aliens to start with. I have always been pleased with what they did for the Autobots and in fact was quite happy with the new look for Megs but it just irritates me that Bay can't even stick to G1 colors. Plus when he is not even introduced (or maybe I missed it because it went by so fast) and I have to research who these guys are online then it Irritates me even more.

BTW these are just my rants. I will still see the movie again and again and buy the Blueray and of course most of the figures. :)
