3D is great in this movie. Just slightly too bad they showed most awesome money shots in the 20+ ads and trailers..still, it's really good! The part that stood out for me was when the soldiers basejump off the building - it's good (or actually, too bad) Bay won't allow for the shots to be longer than 2,5 seconds, otherwise my heart might have skipped a beat. Looked scary real!
I'm glad I saw it in 3-D as I did find some of the scenes to very impressive, especially those were people were jumping/falling off/out of buildings and aircraft. Personally I find those sorts of scenes far more effective than the gimmicky stuff that's often done in 3-D where things are deliberately pointed or throw towards the camera to try and make the most out of the effect. Some of the other effective scenes for me were those where debris from explosions seemed to come flying off of the screen. IMO the 3-D is worth the extra $$$ on this one.
I'm going to disagree with the majority. The 3D just didn't impress me overall. The sequences that featured it were pretty good, but overall the film felt more converted than actually filmed in 3D.
Best 3D I've ever seen. Definite improvement over the 2D experience. For me the best scene is when the guy falls from the building with the desk and it comes down around Shockwave, and there's the cup hitting his head.
That was pretty good, but scenes like that felt few and far between for me. I hate to compare it to Avatar, but that movie had the atmosphere of 3D, things floating around that made you felt like a part of the movie, but DOTM only had those at rare instances. Sadly, Avatar got so much of the 3D experience right, that it's only downhill from there it seems. DOTM really could have expanded on all the technical aspects that Avatar captured so well (floating computer screens for example) but the human focus of DOTM just detracted from the overall 3D aspect of the film.
Best 3D movie to date. Very much worth it. Wasn't over the top in your face 3D but it fit amazingly well through out the entire film to enhance the feel and the over all joy of the theater experience.
I want it on record that the 3D/Real D was crap. Really enjoyed the 2nd viewing, minus the no better than any average 3D.
Personally - if found the 3D very distracting, and during the opening sequence seemd to make the ark appear smaller than it was. Went to see it in 2D a few days later and found it was much easier to follow the action. I have seen the 3D compared to Avatar - I just dont get it - I thought it worked far better in Avatar.
I saw it in Real3D, then Imax 3D. The Imax made all the difference, it was the best cinematic experience I've ever had. You won't regret it.
I saw it twice in IMAX 3D and once in standard. Cybertron looked really cool in the opening sequence. There was also a cool shot of the Driller in Chicago where it was slithering through the building at the top of the screen. The FPS clip during Sentinel v. Optimus was also pretty neat in 3D.
Normally, when I go see a movie twice, I'll see it once in 3D and once in 2D. Not for DOTM. It is definitely worth it. Crispest 3D I have ever seen. It's as good, if not better than Avatar's.
