I'm open-minded to anything new for Optimus and Megatron. We should have expected some major things to be revealed about their history in time to come. I won't judge anything until I see it. Those lines from Miko and Jack are so brief and without context that it's hard to tell what they could mean in their entirety. Are the kids jumping to conclusions? Or even if they're right, remember back in Optimus and Megatron's early days, 'Autobots' and 'Decepticons' could have stood for and meant different things than what they are today. They may not have been properly defined factions yet. In Exodus, if I remember correctly,
Megatron started out with noble enough intentions and goals for changing the status quo on Cybertron. And a young Orion Pax/Optimus, in his initial secret communications and first meetings with Megatron, was being influenced and changed by him.
Who's to say that in Optimus' youth, as he was being exposed to the Decepticons for the first time, he didn't see some sense in their ideas and temporarily may have bought into their doctrine before coming to a realisation about them? To me, this information seems to indicate that Optimus went through a dramatic learning process in his past that caused him to abandon his initial beliefs. That sounds rather like G1 Orion Pax's story a bit don't you think? Didn't G1 Orion initially think the Decepticons were cool before being shot down by Megatron? And we've heard Orci and Kurtzman speak of Megatron as being like a 'fallen hero' before, so it's not so surprising that he could be described as an Autobot in his youth.

At this point, it's a bit premature to criticise this information imo.

Yeah, but Exodus and TFP are not exactly the same... and although exodus was written horribly, I always thought there was an argument between Megatron and OP about what to call the revolution. IIRC, OP never called himself a Decepticon.

Of course, since TFP isn't the same, this could easily mean that OP didn't have the same qualm in TFPverse, in which case yes, it makes total sense and it's not surprising.

But if that's the case, it would be surprising that Megatron would have been an Autobot at any point, because the rebels were already named "the Decepticons" and were the good guys.

So if that's what's meant, OP the 'Con makes sense, but not Megatron the 'Bot. So I'm still scratching my head.

I think one thing to keep in mind here is that it's Jack and Miko saying these lines, so that doesn't necessarily mean they're exactly true. Maybe they just heard that Prime and Megatron use to work together and then jump to the conclusion that "Megatron was an Autobot?" and "Prime was a Con?"

It may surprise you to learn this, but not everyone has access to or wants to buy and read every bit of Transformers material ever.

It's also likely that there are those that haven't read it because of the reviews it received.

This seems like an interesting concept, and with the rumor of a Shattered Glass thing brought up, could it be that the Autobots did not always fight for good?? Maybe Zeta Prime tried to do something that was not right? So Optimus defected to the Cons.

OR...Megatron could have took control of the Autobots?

    Probably not, but still interesting

I'm going to take a stab in the dark by saying this may be an alternate take on The g1 Episode WAR DAWN with a little bit of Shattered Glass Universe thrown in.

Everything will be made clear once the episodes air.

I figured they simply meant that Megatron used to stand for freedom and Optimus Prime was a rebel against his own cast.

Megatron and Freedom are never used in the same sentance unless we're talking SG.

Aspects of Megatron: Origin would like to disagree. Yeah, it got twisted into his 'peace through tyranny' mantra, but in IDW at least, it started out as a coup against the upper class.

*still working my way thru the posts*
During TF: Prime promotions (incl BotCon '10) Didn't HUB/Hasbro/O&K say that TF: Prime was alluding to part of the story or mythos, that would be explored in the series?

If so - that would fall along the lines of "Prime" is a dynasty or such, as much as a title.

    LOL

To be fair, Hasbro's word at BotCon 2011 is that by 2012, all products from that point on will have been designed w/ the "united continuty" in mind, and should be more coherent from then on.

With TF: Prime/WFC as the focal point.

I had to ask them about the aligned continuity, cuz of the upcoming "Robot Heroes" cartoon coming this fall for the kiddies. It's the last of the pre-aligned products, according to a couple different folks I talked to (1 was in the animated part of Hasbro booth, other was at another time)
