When ever any sort of NEW Transformers anything comes out, especially the movies, a lot of people go off and say that their childhood is ruined. These people are just hipocrits that just deny any new ideas and creativity and just jerk off to the first thing that exposed them to Transformers in the first place!!! Look, G1 is great and all, but not as exciting as Transformers: Prime or Animated, and if it weren't for the Michael Bay films, Transformers would just as obsecure as Jem for the love of God!!!! Where would we be then?!?!?

I totally agree with you. I don't understand the immature bantor sometimes. I grew up with G1 and I don't get why others who gre up with G1 hate Beast Wars (Truck not Monkey, etc). I mean, so what if they are animals, they transform. How does flames on OP ruin your childhood?? What kills me too is the ones the collect the Classics figures, but hate G1 because they are bricks :lol  Seriously?? You are comparing toys 25 years apart. Oh, and if you don't like the movies, then don't go and don't buy the toys. We don't want to here you complain about it. Grow up, enjoy the franchise :p

Nobody can ruin your childhood but you. I hate when people say that about anything. How is your childhood ruined? Go watch the old cartoons and only the old cartoons if thats what you want. No one is stopping you. They didn't destroy all of the old ones and MAKE you watch these films or Prime or whatever.

As an artist, I like seeing new interpretations. Whether they work or not, its still fun to see ideas played with and pushed in new directions. If we don't at least try, everything will get stale.

People who claim anything ruined their childhoods have, in my experience, also been the type of people who bitch about everything and how nothing meets their expectations and makes them happy. You make yourself happy or miserable. If someone forgets how to occasionally shut off that critic that now understands pacing and plotting and character that you weren't aware of as a child, they're going to die of a heart attack and be miserable. Sure, I can clearly see areas to improve in these films that are feasible in the terms of filmmaking. I'm sure almost everyone can.

But G1 wasn't Shakespeare. It was fun. At worst, these films are in the same boat, fun and entertaining. Would I like them to be better? Do I want a Nolan type filmmaker to come in and take TF somewhere it could potentially reach? Absolutely. Has it ruined my childhood or in anyway prevented me from enjoying it for what it is? No, because I don't fear change nor have I forgotten that when I was 5 and TF came on, all I cared about were giant robots transforming and being heroic. I don't want to lose that because I want to be able to watch all of this stuff with my kids someday and share in the joy with them. Not sit there the whole time and be like, you don't realize this is crap yet, but someday you will. Someday you'll realize this is all silly, everything thing will have some sort of flaw and life is meaningless and everyone dies.

What the hell kind of a way to live is that?

anyone that says that their childhood was ruined by someone else usually have no adulthood life worth caring about either. so arrogant and embarassing

that is, unless your childhood was ruined by physical and emotional pain caused by something real bad, not on par with someone making a movie.

    get over yourselves

Well, and not to bash G1 too much but go back and watch "Carnage in C Minor" and tell me G1 wasn't a little ruined already.

I don't hate them with a burning passion like one would assume, I just...don't think they fit Optimus' personality. I can tolerate them, but he would have looked better without them.

And for the record, I saw the movie a few YEARS before I saw a single G1 episode.

I started watching G1 recently and was like "Ok, I can respect this for what it is. It's fun and cool, but not really something to watch everyday." But the thing that ruined it for me was hearing Optimus Prime say and I quote, "Amazing! A booby trap that actually captures boobies." -_-

Guess what.. Movie verse Prime looks his way. He does not need to look like anything to his predacestors (unsure of spelling on that word)

I kind of always figured he just didn't care. He needed an alt mode, one drove by that fit his size, he took it. I'm not sure industrial looking robots care too much about that detailed an aesthetic...

that was always my take anyway.

Ok, fair enough! But, if you didn't even see G1 until way after the movie, why would it bother you in the first place? Just curious

You did see the episode where OP has to use Megs in gun form and Megs actually says to OP, "Load me" (as is my sig, lol).

The cartoons are dated. They're a fun reminder of times long gone. But really, G1 is to Movieverse what the Batman TV show is to Burton's Batman films. Notice I didn't say to Nolan's Batverse. I think what we got here with these films is like Burton's Batman, which I love to death, but they are their own interpretation, Nolan came in and not only made his more accurate to the comics, but simultaneously more accurate to how that would all work in reality. I think the Burton Batman scenario is what we have with Bay's TF. They work for the most part. They do what they came to do. They have style. But someone could easily come along, write the characters accurate to their original personalities but create a much more realistic world for them simultaneously, really explore them as a race of self aware machines. It could be fantastic if they can sell it right (ie appease film execs desire for the films to make money by engaging average joe movie goer, which is essential to pay for something this huge).

The 'ruined childhood'/ "Bay raped my childhood" scenario is mostly a myth. I have never seen anyone seriously make that claim. If they did it would be for the sake of comical overstatement. It is mostly a phrase that people use to mock gee-wunners.

Incidentally, it wouldn't bother me if Transformers had fallen into obscurity. Lots of great stuff has, and it wouldn't diminish it in my eyes. It wouldn't bother me if today's kids had never heard of it, in the same way it doesn't bother me that kids aren't into knightrider or MacGuyver, or other stuff that was around when I was a kid. All that matters is what it meant to me.

And while we're at it, Hastak never stopped doing transformers. They kept going for over two decades without Bay's involvement, so it's reasonable to assume that there would still be transformers regardless of whether or not he'd become involved.

I am of the "G1" generation - and loved the cartoon and toys as a kid. Never got into Beastwars - thought the concept was lame, similarly never really got into Armada and I dont like the aesthetics of Animated or Prime. But I do like the movie continuity. The story telling is weak - but the bot designs are exactly how I imagined a live action TF movie would look.

Many fanboys attempt to shoot down any criticism levelled at the new series or movies with the "it isnt G1" argument. Seriously - change the record! Many people will draw comparisons between the movie verse and G1 because, like it or not - they are the most closely related in terms of the concept, setting, aesthetic etc.

If the live action franchise had involved beast wars - we'd probably be having the same conversations. Indeed - when a live action beast wars franchise was suggested on this very board a few days back - somebody actually uttered the phrase "That was my childhood, and I don't want it ruined."

    NO HE DIDN'T.

Nolan came in and made a movie accurate to a CERTAIN PORTION OF BATMAN COMICS MADE POST-1987.

Sorry, this really bugs me. "Batman" was not created by Frank Miller in 1987. "Year One" and all the "grim, gritty, dark" (man, how bored am I of that Batman interpretation now?) is ONE version. However, there were decades of Batman comics before Miller, and Nolan's take on Year One/Long Halloween is just one interpretation but by no means "more accurate".

Burton's first "Batman" was probably truer to the 1930s original take on the character than any other medium.

Even "Batman and Robin" was an "accurate" movie version of the sorts of Batman stories we got in the 1950s/60s.

A-hem. Sorry. Pet peeve of mine in the "Batman" fandom.

    On topic -

What many don't seem to understand is the Transformers live-action films never claimed to be based on Generation 1. It was an assumption on most people's part, as that's what most adults think about when they hear "Transformers" (because they grew up with it). However, the live-action films only claimed to be based on the TRANSFORMERS BRAND - that includes everything and anything made up to 2007.

Seriously: For those of us who were around in 1995, we had the whole "ruined my childhood" thing when Beast Wars began. Then Beast Machines. Then everybody hated RID (because it was too "comical"/"cartoony" - unlike, oh I don't know, Powerglide having a little romantic heart inside him in the original series). Then everyone thought Armada desecrated G1...

and let's not forget some of the fanboyz gasps when "Animated" was unveiled.

And as somebody else has already said, none of this can hurt your childhood. Your childhood - and all the toys, comics, cartoons that comprised it - are there and will always be there.

Good job for me, as I'm a g1 only collector :thumbs2:

Actually I haven't seen one post where someone said that about this movie. It seems to be people complaining about people who say it I see more posts of.

It does seem bit idiotic because this obviously isn't g1 transformers. How can a childhood be ruined by something that isn't related to the g1 incarnation aside from a couple names?

If you ever wonder if stupid people know they're stupid the "ruined my childhood" argument should be sign enough that they don't.

That's what my dad said about the original Transformers when I was a kid
