Translation of what ebert means by this is that he is right up front telling you that he prejudged the whole thing and is too old to change his mind. I wonder what many of his contemporaries would say about it. But of course Mark Twain and Edgar Allan Poe are dead, so we'll never know.
I'm tellin ya man, the sheer amount of venom being spit in this thread is unconscionable and truly shameful.
"It" being his livelihood, then yes. Yes, he is continuing to do the job that brought him fame and success. I suppose he could stop at some time and become something else, like a furniture salesman. I just don't think that it would be such a wise career move at his age.
Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Aliens, True Lies. Your move sparky. I get that Avatar is not James Cameron's finest work, not when compared to the above four movies. I loved it, but his best movies to me will always be Aliens and Terminator 2, but I'd rather live in a world of movies that has Avatar and James Cameron, than live in a world without him; because then God only knows where guys like Arnie, Sigourney Weaver, or more importantly: Stan 'God of Monsters' Winston would have had his career started. For the record, I think Dark of the Moon had the finest 3D for a live action movie since Avatar.
Yeah, it's kind of sad when fanboys get all bent out of shape and angry if you don't like a movie they like, or point out flaws in the movie. Stupid Cameron fanboys, I'm glad everyone here is better than that.
Yeah, but this is the movie forum. Venom-spitting is almost common, and shame is left at the front door.
Terminator 2 and Aliens are the greatest action films of ALL TIME. No film can compare to them And Avatar alone is better than any movie Micheal Bay has ever made. By several orders of magnitude. In fact, I dont think there is a single blockbuster in the past 10 years better than Avatar, aside from Inception and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Whoa there boy, no need to go nuts. Cameron and Bay make very different genres of films, in fact the only Cameron movie that is directly comparable to a Bay movie is True Lies, which is an awesome movie. They are very different men with different backgrounds in film making. I may prefer Cameron over Bay, but both men have paid their dues and established themselves on reputation and results. And neither of these facts got in the way of me enjoying the SHIT out of Dark of the Moon.
Oh sorry, didnt mean to come off as being in "attack" mode, lol I agree, I loved DOTM too. I just think Cameron is in another stratosphere than Bay. That guy using Avatar as an example of Cameron not being able to do Transformers better than Bay is just funny though. Its an indefensible arguement. Even if I liked TF1 and TF3, Cameron would have made better movies, I personally dont think you can argue otherwise. Avatar proves it just as much as his older movies. But thats just me.
The only thing I don't like about Cameron now is that he's gotten real preachy about certain things and comes off like a total jack*ss.
