OK, so one of the big moments in DOTM for Sentinel Prime (expertly voiced by Leonard Nimoy) involves the line "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

Nearly all of us know that comes from Leonard Nimoy's most prominent film role. But most critics seem to hate that line in the movie, saying its "Trying too hard" or "Cheapens the memory of better movies."

So what was YOUR reaction to that moment? Chuckling or face-palming??

Probably the worst line in the movie. Too obvious. At least he didnt say "Live long and prosper"

I think it's more of an homage to him since this will probably be one of Nimoy's last roles ever and Bay just respects him so much, as well as being married to his cousin. As has been stated, Brains and Wheelie were watching a Star Trek episode where "Spock goes mad." Just another little hint Bay threw in.

Or just imagine this exchange at the end:

Optimus: You didn't betray us, you betrayed yourself.

Sentinel: No Optimus! I have been, and always shall be, your-

the line is only obvious if your a nerd, nobody i saw the movie with got the reference at all.

Fans always assume regular people get all these things when they don't

There put in for us and then fans complain when their too obvious

I think when the Autobots are supposed to leave earth and get on the shuttle, Sam talks to Bumblebee and Bee says something to the effect of always being Sam's friend, using various voice clips, of course. The clip used for saying "your friend," I believe was taken from Spock's famous "I have been, and always shall be, your friend," line from Star Trek 2.

At first it felt like a kick in the jaw, but it passed, I figured since as has been said it probably is one of Nimoy's last gigs on screen, why not do some crazy stuff with it.

Altered slightly as this was in the NOVEL. I feel it was a nice nod, just like "Oh, the episode with Spock going mad". In jokes make movies like this fun.

I don't think it was a big deal at all. It is a line that Star Trek or Nimoy fans can appreciate as a bonus.

I didn't even know it was a Star Trek quote or a quote from somewhere else when I saw the movie. It fit in fine.

Kind of forgot about that one, but another quote from Spock that will go unnoticed by almost everyone except sci-fi fans.

Well, Spock ripped it off from Caiaphas (John 11:50) in the Bible sooooo. But yeah, I kind of ughed myself. I liked the sneakier ones. The "Your friend" and the episode Wheelie was watching. Not so much the "Looks like the STARSHIP ENTERPRISE in here!" Just Enterprise would have been better.

I never knew it came from Star Trek (can't stand it or Star Wars personally); I just thought it an appropriate line for what Sentinel believed he was doing.

And if it hadn't have just been a 'nod' quote to Nemoy, i'd have liked to have had Optimus utter it back to Sentinel right before executing him, as a kind of full-circle justification.

I chuckled, thinking the other people around me (obviously fellow geeks to have arrived over an hour in advance and some wearing TF shirts) would join in. No one did.

Then I realized that I'm officially old.

I LOVED the line. The context and situation in which the line was delivered was perfect for Sentinel Prime's character. There may be only a few thousand Cybertronians left, compared to the 6 billion people on Earth..but the fact that he considers humans as the "few" compared to the "many" Cybertronians show a very condescending attitude towards "lesser" lifeforms. What's a few billion people killed and an entire planetary population put into slavery compared to that of saving Cybertron?

It worked, and it worked perfectly. I smiled like a madman when I heard that line.

I sighed and mentally facepalmed. It felt forced and unnecessary, and only served for the movie to scream "IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW THIS IS LEONARD NIMOY ALSO KNOWN AS SPOCK FROM THE STAR TREK FRANCHISE!!!".
