agreed.

They all had maybe one minute of coolness each before being wasted. Hell, I think laserbeak had the most, best screentime out of them all.

But man, Shockwave was a freaking letdown. And it would've been so easy too! All they had to do was give him an actual robot fight scene against Optimus in Cheronobyl, then give him maybe one more badass scene, perhaps addressing Megatron in his usual Shockwavian manner. Just the addition of those two scenes would've made me satisfied. Just those two.

I know this is probably wrong, but I feel as if his dialogue was severely cut after Bay's team was unable to get Corey Burton or David Warner, who Burton suggested they may be attempting to hire. After they couldn't get a unique VA, they diminished his role and had Frank, who is a capable VA don't get me wrong, just step in.

 

Personally, I think it would have been better if his scenes were just cut out of the movie entirely. I mean, the movie was really long, and Shockwave was pretty pointless.

I loved the other decepticons though. Laserbeak kicked ass, Soundwave was really scary with the tentacles and the executions, and even Starscream got blow shit up for a while. And Barricade smacking around the drones made my day!

 

I loved all the decepticons in DOTM.

Megatron - My second favourite megatron of the 3 in the bay films, he was the sinister megatron that was missing from ROTF, a wrecked broken megatron, who was a shadow echo of his former self, very bitter, his voice was more gritty and disturbing. But megatron was finally feeling the effects of his death in TF1, and his destruction at the hands of prime in ROTF. At the end we saw glimpses of 2007 prime megatron, when he wrecked sentinal. But he was the brains that linked ROTF to DOTM, and the undoing of the decepticons. Prime's surprise attack on megatron with the axe, megs never saw it coming

Sentinal prime - what a badass, he owned prime in this film. I loved how he showed megatron why he made a deal with him, ripping into megatron's half missing head. He crushed anything in his way, and sentinal's fight with prime, we should have got between prime and the fallen which bay put right, for me sentinal stole the show

Shockwave - He had plenty of screen time, more than I expected the way fans were moaning. He was the decepticon that was expected to be, loyal to megatron and it took an army to kill him.

Soundwave - I thought he played his part in the film, trying to get info out of sam when they captured sam's GF. I had no problem with how he was used, sentinal and soundwave were the driving forces behind the decepticon's destruction of chicago, has a broken megatron was on his last legs throughout the film

Starscream - He was probably the most wasted of the decepticons, but he served his purpose. It was a shame he was clumsy in this film when trying to kill sam

I agree with this. I never thought of Megatron that way, he's kinda more intersting.

Don't you hate it when fans can make the charecters more interesting than the writers.  

 

Shockwave was just another excuse to sell a new figure.

 

As said, Shockwave was totally a red herring. We were supposed to think he was the big bad, and the movie even plays that up with him attacking the NEST team early in the movie.

Given what then resulted from it, I can't complain too terribly much.

Would I have liked him to show more? Definitely.

But with the movie overly long as it was, given the choice between Sentinel and Shockwave, I think I'd choose Sentinel.

(Personally, I loved how Starscream and Megatron were played generally overall, anyway.)

 

Shockwave existed for exactly three reasons. 1, to make the fans happy by including a fan-favorite G1 character. 2, the sell more toys. 3, and the most important reason, was to act as a red herring for the true villain of the film.

 

I think Bay was brillaint for making you think he's the bad guy when Sentinel "The Magnificant Bastard" Prime is the Mastermind of it all.

Shockwave was badass. Also gee why does the parachute bug people. Prime finished him off anyways.

 

True, but bay tried his best to give us fans the best possible transformers film possible and he succeed.

This megatron was brilliant, there was nothing much they could have done with megatron, he rebuilt himself just enough so he could finish what he started with sentinal, he was not built to fight unlike 1 and 2. And he did a badass job on sentinal, even in his horrible state

 

Seriously? I thought Megatron was mopy little bitch in this one. His characterization in DOTM was poorer than ROTF or TF1.

I have no doubts that this was the best TF movie Michael Bay could make, so he should be applauded for giving it his all, but I shudder to think that THIS was the best possible TF film.

 

Shockwave was kind of wasted, but less grating than Energon's Shockblast incarnation.

 

True but the film highlights megatron's broken state, even starscream highlights megatron's weakened state. megatron was rebuilt to finish the job. But I loved this megatron, but he had no chance against the prime's in his current state

 

Shockwave existed only as misdirection to lead the audience attention away from the big twist of Sentinel.

That said, for a dude who existed as misdirection, he was pretty boss. Hella creepy, hella tough (it literally took everyone to kill him!) and he looked fantastic. That scene where he scanned the falling desk and noticed the soldiers was badass.

 

From a character/story standpoint, TF1 is the tops in the trilogy for me. While I do like some of the action sequences in ROTF (Shanghai and Forest battles), the action in the last hour of DOTM gets them the prize for best action.

 

You could of taken Shockwave entirely out of the movie and just had The Driller on it's own and I doubt anybody would of noticed. The actual 2-3 scenes Shockwave is in he mainly just stands their looking like a Cybertronian Calvin Klein model. I really love the design but man I was probably more dispappointed with him then The Fallen. The Fallen at least did shit like teleport and lift up those tanks and crap which was pretty cool.

Shockwave's says Optimus once, manages to nail prime with his cannon once and then gets tangled in a parachute and dies. Awesome.

 

Dear god, someone has to draw fanart of this.  

 

Seriously the camera pans around him and we get some close ups (the one with his eye was cool) and Shockwave always strikes a killer pose... It's like they are trying to give you the feeling he should be someone important, pity he never actually does anything worthwhile.
