My IMAX screen here in Toronto Canada was filled right to the front for midnight. Plus it's Midnight screenings and IMAX only...so of course it's not a fully wide release

IIRC, wasn't ROTF midnight showings were Thursday going into Friday. More people are apt to watch a midnight show on Thursday going into Friday than Tuesday night going into Wednesday.

Critics are not helping DOTM, but if the audience high marks continue, word of mouth will help tremendously.

13 mil is less than ROTF, but thats no biggie. its less than one day in to its theatrical run. so 13 mil is actually pretty good considering that. i would not be surprised if they broke 200 mil. the more money this movie makes, the better after all, regardless of opinions.

This, I don't want a reboot, Unicron or GTFO!

i was actually REALLY surprised how many critics are panning DOTM. i mean, the plot wasn't academy award worthy, but it was not horrible in any way. i personally thought it was better than TF2007. but hey, who gives a crap what critics think anyway? its the fan's opinions that matter!

I did notice ROTF had more screens playing at midnight. Last night there were 3 pre-midnight showings and then 6 midnight showings. ROTF had all 16 screens and then I think a 3am showing too. Wonder if the interest level was a little down or theatres are limiting the showings for crowd control. People are giving good reviews overall so I think word of mouth will keep people coming back for a longer duration than ROTF.

Yeah so, who didn't realize that it opened on a weekday? Cause reading the posts above yours doesn't give that impression at all.

Agreed. It seems like most of the critics are hating on the movie just to hate it this time. The wife and I saw it at the 9:45pm showing last night, and I thought it was much better then RotF, and the battles are the best we've seen so far. Totally worth the price of a 3D ticket.

It’s going to make a lot of money. More than likely it will make considerably more overseas. Even though I still don’t think it will manage it, I would not be surprised if this made it to the fabled one billion mark.

Yeah, I agree. It would be pretty cool if we get an '86 movie homage with Unicron reviving Megs into Galvatron, even though I still prefer the name Megatron

I want movie Unicron too, but wondering if the dynamic would be off considering Megs is already dead. It was a deal with the devil in the 86 movie. Megs kept his edge by 1st denying Unicron, then when threatened with annihilation, Megs accepted the terms. Here, it would seem to make Megs a puppet of sorts. I could be outhinking myself on this tho.

I dont remember if ROTF opened only in Imax Theaters during their opening week. But those do seem like impresive numbers.

Some of my friends thought that the movie was still opening July 1st; I think the whole date-changing there probably had something to do with it. Not that $13M is bad or anything.

I think it'll make more than ROTF by the weekend, that was one helluva fun ride!

I think that it will do well at the box office, but I don't think that everyone will ever be pleased with any one Transformers movie, no matter who makes it.

Not to me. I have always wanted to see Galvatron as a character separate from Megatron, like the G1 bio.

Consider this as an imaginative write-up plot:

The ending paves way to a more exciting future I think...With the right direction it is perfectly planned for TF4.... How? Here is a story twist...

Humans will throw in all the dead decepticons in space (they wont do it in the ocean anymore considering Megs survive it)... And in space, the cons will wander endlessly until they bump to Unicron... And all of them wil be revived , and even to a different alternate modes (Galvatron anyone?). At this point, on earth, Prime and Autobots are also upgrading and where they stay all those times? Of course with Metroplex!

The insects on Megs face are actually form of nanotech healer..and in due time, he will have consciousness and will speak with Unicron..And then we wil have this new story..and most probably new set of toys filing up our display cabinet (And a happier Hasbro that they will have new set of toylines...) Imagine reanimating all of decepticons and upgrading the Autobots? it will only mean oppurtunities for new bunch of toys....

In conflict with the human element, If Sam (Shia) is not young enough to bring in the action on next film, the film crew can have already the kid (new actor in center of action) he has with Carly (Rosie). The time frame wil work very well here since it is a good variable thinking that Megs and the cons are seriously wandering in space (all are presumed dead) and the earth time is also progressing bringing in a father to Sam, a Mother to Carly and a new kid to bring in the action. And at this point, we will see Unicron and Metroplex take on the Movieverse...

But Seriously? I just want the franchise to continue where it left.... With or Without Bay... It is an exciting hell of ride....

I just don't think there are enough MacGuffins left that could work with what Bay has done in his TF universe without at least giving the series like 10 years off. If he had left some major Decepticons alive, it would be feasible to have a 4th movie, but I just think that Hasbro/Paramount will reboot in about 5 years with a different director/producing team to create a new line. I'm thankful for what Bay has done for the TF, but am left with thinking that it could have been so much greater.
