yeah, so ive been thinking lately, sunstorm just pisses me off now....first the e hobby exclusive whatnot, then he's a major baddy in DW g1, then he gets an armada thrust body, then he ends up in LOC, and probably cybertrons mainline too....and the final straw, the minicon 2 packs...he's totally punked out dirge as the 6th seeker....thrust and ramjet have been well represented, and though he got a dirge inspired thrust, we still dont have a legit dirge...cuz of sunstorm....stupid commie....i hate him....but also cant resist buying him....ARGH!!!
YOu know something? So far I haven't seen a single Sunstorm figure yet. Not in comic stores and less in regular toy stores.
To be honest all the Seekers outside of the main three have had a raw deal lately. There's loads of Skywarps and Thundercrackers, but we don't often see a Thrust or a Ramjet either. There's the odd one (Armada Thrust, Universe Ramjet) but they aren't used all that often. Plus, Aaron Archer often mentioned a certain affection for "Durge" in the Orson's World days, so I'd say some day we'll be seeing Dirge back in action. Sunstorm's just another character that can be used to keep the pool of characters to repaint Starscream into from getting too stagnant.
Dirge was the last seeker I needed, and I was overjoyed to see the TRU reissue. Homages? Feh. Who cares? It's never as good as the original.
It may have something to do with using Dirge for the Botcon figure last year. More in that the name may be more associated with a bug than a jet now.
I can't say I've ever been a big fan of Sunstorm, I'd be much happier if they paid more attention to Dirge.
Dirge was probably the most unused Seeker in G1 though... Personally, he's one of my favourites, but i wouldn't like to see him as a Starscream repaint, i'd rather he be a totally new mold if anything. I also dislike Sunstorm, never really seen what's so 'great' about him....don't own any Sunstorm toys.
Dirge I found very likable from G1, in "The girl who loved Powerglide" we got to see him and his fellow coneheads dish it out a little, other than that it was his croaky carcastic voice and slow nature that captured my atention. Really (as said before) he was the most unused seeker. Hasbro has had ample oppertunities to dish out seeker repaints/slight retools to us, and rightly so they have. Armada Starscream- Thundercraker- Skwarp- Universe Ramjet- Energon Starscream colours. Armada Thrust- Red Thrust- Ramjet like Thrust, Universe Sunstorm. Armada Ramjet (Tidalwaves minicon) Energon Starscream- Energon E Starscream Cybertron Starscream- Cybertron Voyager Thrust like Starscream. LOC Starscream, LOC Skywarp, LOC Ramjet, LOC Sunstorm Cybertron Thundercracker- Cybertron Skywarp LOC Thundercracker I'm sure I missed some out... Any way yeah Dirge has hardly shown up the past few years. Im not so sure we can blame Sunstorm though, can we? Personaly I like Sunstorms colour scheme and I like the character he has been given byy fanfics etc... Any way hopfull our great buddies at hasbro have noticed Dirges lack of attention latley and he will be given the great honor of having the first retooled MP Starscream body. MASTERPIECE 4- DIRGE!
I will never understand why people care about Sunstorm, he's not G1 as I know it, but gets shoehorned in at the expense of proper Decepticon jets at every opportunity and he's also incredibly ugly, he's shelfwarmer yellow and orange for crying out loud. If Sunstorm were an original Hasbro creation people would complain about him no end, it'd be Hasbro getting a 7th potential repaint out of the seeker mold, but because he originated as a Japanese exclusive his cheapness gets overlooked.
From what I've heard, he was a major character in one of the G1 comic lines. He was also visible in the background in the pilot episodes of G1 as one of the generic seekers that chase Wheeljack and Bumblebee back to Iacon. The Japanese exclusive (e-hobby) was simply the first toy version of the character.
There were a lot of background characters that reused existing animation models in the g1 cartoon, it doesn't mean they're worthy of being shoehorned into future tf lines like major characters either. I absolutely hated Sunstorm being forcefed to us by Dreamwave and still do, it's not like there was any shortage of actual Generation 1 characters they could have used.
True. The background character version of Sunstorm was just an unamed Seeker recolor to have more Decepticons around. 80's cartoons did that alot. But that doesn't mean that the random Seeker ever had a personality. The toy was created for E-Hobby to cash in a seventh time on that particular mould and given a random background by them. I don't really consider Sunstorm as he's become to have anything to do with the yellow and orange unamed Seeker from G1. The comic version you speak of came much later and only after Takara did the E-hobby exclusive. Dreamwave expanded even further on Sunstorm and made him some sort of psychotic prophiet... the storyline is really one of the worst TF storylines I've ever read and one of the many reasons I was happy to see DW simply die... I was hoping Sunstorm's US popularity would die with them, but than the bastard showed up in the LOC line and he'll probably get a voyager version instead of the awesome fucking Skywarp we should have had. Or how about a Ramjet repaint of Cybertron Starscream... he needs a new body after his destruction in the club comic... hell... I'd even rather have them slap an Autobot symbol on him and do a G1 Skyfire homage than another freakin' version of Sunstorm. Urgh!
Well if no one here likes me? THEN WHY ARE YOU ALL MY BITCHES!!! I Don't like Sunstorm either but I have the Palisades Statue that seems to be worth more than the other Seekers?
I'm not going to try to tell anyone they should like him, but I think it's a nice break from the standard 6 seekers. Plus at this point we don't even know if we are going to get a voyager sized repaint beyond the one from the two-pack. I'd be perfectly happy with either Sunstorm or Skywarp though. I think what would be really cool is if Sunstorm were in the next cartoon. Give him some widespread, official existance beyond a couple fringe-line toys. Ha! That's at least two bots I own now that you want! (Yeah I know you have more than 2 that I want, shut up. )
