This is for all Lakelanders out there.

*mods if this is the wrong spot I am sorry. I just figured i could reach more people in my town if i post in the general discussion thread and through the sightings thread*

Long story short my wife's family is going through some tough times. I will not go into details but needless to say do to these times one of the family cats has gone missing. Now i live on the north side but she could be anywhere in Lakeland. Her name is Alice. Here is her info:

Age: 4 Years old as of June 2011, when she went missing from our home.
Breed: Tortoise shell calico, medium build and weight. Medium length fur.
*****Declawed and Spayed housecat*****
Alice is mostly black with a bisected face. Stomach is tan/gold. She has a unique ‘raccoon striped’ tipped tail. Very little white on her body except on her chin, a bit on her neck and paws. She has red brown ‘cinnamon’ spots throughout her fur. She has greenish yellow eyes.
Temperament: very shy and skittish. Traumatized by losing siblings and surviving a house fire the year before.

She is very very shy. She is declawed so has no way of defending herself. Please keep an eye out for her. If you spot her or a cat you may think is her please PM me.

I don't live in Lakeland, but I can certainly relate to the feeling of having a cat go missing. I hope you find her

 

My dad lost my cat for 5 days once when I went out of town and left her with him so I feel your pain. Good luck with the hunt!

 

Have they been checking the shelters every day? Sometimes skittish cats can/will be trapped and taken there. Or contact any local people who feed feral cat populations? She might be attracted to their feeding stations. What about putting up flyers in the neighborhood. Its good that she has a collar, too - a much better chance of being returned home when a pet has one of those.

Thank you for the suggestion Moony.   We are checking daily everywhere we can. Even have fliers we are putting up around town. I am almost willing to bet some of these places are getting sick of us calling.

Lucky for you, I live in Canada.

 

One reason I get terrified when I see my Dad leaving our doors open carrying model airplanes in/out. I keep my cat indoors all the time so I won't lose her. She's such a sweetie and I hope you find yours well and soon.
Around our neighborhood we've had at least two or three cats get lost so far.

You're welcome. Something you should do, tho, is actually GO to the shelters instead of calling them - often people will turn in strays as their own cat, thinking it will give them a better chance of not being put to sleep.

Also, was the cat at your house? As in, not in a place she was familiar with? A shy cat usually will be too afraid to go far...but also will be too afraid to come out of hiding, but if she knew the area it might be possible to lure her back with food left outside. She may also make her way to where she used to live.

I hope to God you find your cat. I have 4 and if one of them got out and never returned I would be devastated.

Seriously though, I hope he turns up. Probably will. My friend's cat got out once and was gone for like 4 days. Just showed up on the back porch one day.

 

Back on topic, I really hope and pray your kitty will show up...being declawed and out in the wild isn't a good combo, but maybe she can stay hidden until she figures out how to get home. Keep looking and best of luck to you.

 

I used to live in Frostproof, and if I still did, I'd come up for a day and help you look. I know how it is to lose a cat, it hurts.   Good luck finding her!
