I doubt it will do anything better than Iron Man movies at best.
Unless people got brainwashed by positive critics reviews, 3D gimmick scam with James Cameron approval and promotion, this 3rd movie is the weakest and worst of the franchise on every single aspect (the official novel is proof for characters and plot, trailers and clips and movie stills released by Paramount is proof for CGI and action scenes quality although partial it shows too many issues for saving what is wrong with everything else)

I honestly wouldn't be shocked if it didn't perform up to the level of the first two; it's a pretty crowded couple of weeks right after DOTM comes out with Harry Potter and Captain America.

I can't see it doing anything less than ROTF with the 3D mark up added on... My guess is it'll do what the first movie did PLUS whatever percentage extra 3D is... I can't remember off hand the number

I'm sure that DOTM will make good money, but I doubt it will exceed the $1 billion mark, especially since DOTM will have some competition with the final Harry Potter movie in theaters.

    Sorry.
    can not express myself right.
I spoke in the sense that subsequent films does not exceed the previous.
    the first was excellent.
the other pirates were good but left to be desired compared to the first.

For those you wondering how long it took Avatar to make it's US box office it was a long haul effort Avatar weekly box office.

With more summer films to go after Dark of the Moon I'm not sure Dark of the Moon can do those same sort of weekly numbers over 34 weeks.

Uh... Avatar level money? I'm not so sure...

The visuals of Pandora helped sell Avatar.
The special effects beyond Pandora helped sell Avatar.
The name of the director helped sell Avatar.
    The 3D helped sell Avatar.

The visuals of the Transformers themselves will help selling it some.
The special effects will help selling it some.
The name of the director will work against it.
The 3D, if it rivals or outclasses Avatar, will help sell it. (Though the chance is slim of it outclassing.)

Transformers is a big property to us, and obviously a world audience, but it has many limitations. The movie would have to be absolutely spectacular to sell it to the tune of a billion or more. Beating Avatar? Nothing short of a miracle happening will make that reality.

But, even if it makes more than the first two movies, that's still a tremendous feat. If it does well with critics and audiences, that's still a tremendous feat.

I think we should be happy for what it is and what we're getting, rather than worrying about trying to be the best and beating the competition. Sometimes when you focus on what you have to work with and making it the best it can be, instead of trying to best the competition, you end up with a great piece of work that everyone can enjoy.

And you don't have to be super duper number 1 to do that. Sometimes, just being good, period, is enough.

I won't be surprised if it breaks $1 billion, but it won't do it so easily.

I'd say Michael Bay (my misgivings aside, for I have many) is about to enter the 1 Billion Dollar Movie Club.

Call it a hunch, but I think Dark of the Moon will do it. It's got stiff competition to be sure, but I have a feeling that it can do it.

I think it could make Dark Knight money but it's got Harry Potter coming in two weeks and Captain America two weeks after that, not to mention Cars 2 which just came out, so it's got alot of stiff competion. So it could make 1 billion dollars, but I ain't holding my breath.

Don't know if it passes Avatar but a billion I think so. THe extra money for 3d will help. There are some decent reviews and that will convince some people to see it. The limitation is the movie is targeted at younger audiences and male audiences.
