Dude, I like it WAAAAAY better than Teen Titans. The art and animation in T.T. is too cheap for me to watch without cringing, not to mention the dumb pseudo-anime facial takes.
I have only seen one or two of The Batman, so I really can't throw out a good opinion. for me I find the character designs way to annoying and it distracts from the show. And if I don't like how a show 'looks' then I am not going to watch it. Bring back BTAS and JLU anytime.
Nothing I've seen on The Batman looks better than Teen Titans. Except maybe Mr Freezes visual style. Also, the writing on The Batman certainly isn't better than Titans, even on thier silliest episodes.
Are we talking about the same Teen Titans here? The one where the character designs look like a fourteen year old wannabe American "manga" artist's fan art. The one that overuses trite "anime style" superdeforms and facial takes far more than any decent anime does? The one where some of the scenes rely so heavily on layered 2-D scaling and rotation that they look like they were animated in Flash? Yeah, that looks WAY better than The Batman
I agree with a lot that has been said about the new villains, some were cool (Puppet Master?) but I don't like when they try to re-invent the old characters like joker and Freeze. Plus what is up with the Marlyn Manson Riddler? I also don't like how they introduced Bane, but whatever. The action and animation is good, but not as good as the earlier one. You should like it, may not love it, but like it.
Like many of you guys, I agree "The Batman" is terrible and kiddish. Some of villians' redesigns are cool and the show does have its but overall the show falls flat...in terms of storytelling and to a certain extent pacing? This show is a disappointment especially when we know what Warner is capable of. E.g. JL.
When I tune in to Teen Titans (usually by accident) I tend to see things like this: When I tune into The Batman, I see this: Let's see the characters get angry. Yep, the crass, artless, over the top toy commercial: While I'm posting images, here's the Joker that everyone's bitching about: No, he's nothing like the Joker we're used to. He's also not entirely unprecedented as far as his personality. Imagine if someone tried to take the 1960s joker and redesign him to show how absolutely batshit (pun not intended) crazy he is. He doesn't look like he's on an acid trip as someone suggested, he looks like he IS a walking acid trip. Not the best Joker we could have gotten, but he's a fun, freaky, and endearing character in his own right, and he's as "cartoony" as the show gets, folks. Took me a LOT of getting used to, but so long as he doesn't start looking and acting like this in the comics, I like him now. Another issue raised earlier was the reinvention of Mr. Freeze. Admittedly the new Freeze is nowhere near as deep, but neither was the original comic version until the animated series came and, guess what, reinvented him. So the old show remade him to be deep, and this one remade him to be cool. They don't all have to reinvent the characters the same way. Like whichever you prefer, but that doesn't make the new one bad.
teen titans rules all! lot better then most cartoons now, and people are forgetting that cartoons can still be cartoons!!! they are aimed at kids, not you adults.
I don't find the overuse of wild takes and whiney characters that freak out every ten minutes "fun". It's boring and obnoxious. I suppose superdeformity and giant sweat drops can be funny if you've never seen them before, but they get old fast. It was funny when I watched Dragon Half. It was funny when I watched Magic Knights Rayearth. Now it's about as funny as slipping on a banana peel or asking why the chicken crossed the road. Boring and obnoxious. Oveused too. If I hadn't seen that stuff before, I'd have seen it at least a few dozen times in just a couple of episodes of T.T. Lame. Fun for me is a well-animated and well-choreographed action scene, and cleverly written dialogue. Incidentally, these are the same things I liked as a kid. The Batman has more than plenty of both, especially the former. People are giving it a bad rap because they expect it to be even more "serious".
Heh, well see I don't watch my cartoons with my head up my fanboy ass. It's a lot easier to relax that way.
i personally enjoy the batman alot...its not written to the level of BTAS, but its still a damn fun ride...i like all the redesigns, even the riddler, and think its a blast....clayface is quite possibly my favorite villian in the series, and i cant wait to see what else happens...which means i need new episodes, but WB has been reairing old ones....id say buy it, and enjoy a good kids show version of bats....
Ohh, baseless name-calling! Nice! Real mature. There's nothing fanboyish about not rolling over laughing everyonetime someone makes a silly face or falling for the same gag over and over or getting tired of characters who whine and yell at each other all the time. I have only a casual interest in the DC universe and I don't watch that much anime anymore. Hardly any fanboy goggles going on here. Oh well. Some people forget that when you start calling names in an argument you lose the argument.
Flamepanther- The Batman is good cartoon, but given how good TAS was it is hard to top it. IMO it is more enjoyable then some of the cartoons right now for all the reason that you have mentioned. Teen titans is also a good cartoon, but for different reasons. It really blurs the line between serious and slapstick, and does it quite well. Sure the style is different Re: your screen captures, but its what gives TT its charm. I think it is the only series that could pull off a serious vibe, while still being a bit silly. Its like comparing apples to oranges.
And that was the point of the thread: in the absence of Bruce Timm's version of Batman, is "The Batman" a good show? I'd say it's better than most of the American produced action cartoons out there today, aside from TMNT.
