Wha? no thread on him already? guess I'll start it then.

Well...he's a lot shorter than I expected XD. Oh and I wanna say, I can't beleive people actually thought he'd have no swords! They're a part of his wings! (and they're grey so it really stands out) I'm surprised the sonic bomber owners didn't pick up on that o_O
But anyway, there's no chrome on his chest (thank god) except for the autobot symbol which I do admit looks very nice. The transformation wasn't too hard or too easy (especially going back to jet mode...kinda got stuck on the legs.) I have no idea what kind of jet this is but it looks good none the less.
The robot mode is quite stable...though I'm a bit dissapointed that he has hands like A-Demolishor (which means he can't hold things) but I'll live. The sword handles are in a part of the back of the jet and the missile launchers on his wings can be used as weapons as well.
They cyber key power here opens the front of the jet to reveal a light up laser blaster of sorts. (which also makes a rapid fire type sound) it works well in both modes except you have to fold the jet back over his head in robot mode.
And of course...there's the Sonic wing mode. The wing mounted missile launchers attach to prime's super mode feet (just like the trailer does) while the legs fold up into a backpack of sort. The arms fold up to become shoulder cannons and the whole thing can be mounted on prime (sans backpack) the chest plate and wings extend and voila! Sonic wing mode. It's a great combo all the way! much better than the savage claw mode and prime can hold the swords for added badassery. Wingsaber's cyber key gimmick works her except the nose cone thing has to be folded over the head. I really can't say much about stability though since my prime's leg joints are kida weak (he falls over backwards when I stand him up in this mode)

All in all, it's a very solid figure with nice modes, a good gimmick and he makes a damn fine combination with prime!

Oh and the swords are not chrome. Just painted grey.

I'll be happy to name any other differences in paint apps if you like ^^

People only thought the swords were left out when Hasbro's promo pictures didn't have the swords attached to the wings. Nobody believed it once more info, and pictures of packaged samples, were released.

I found Wing Saber yesterday at Target. I've been looking forward to him and Soundwave the most lately, and I haven't been disappointed. He looks good in both robot and jet mode, though he does have a considerable amount of undercarriage in jet mode. I really like that he's so well armed. With both Optimus and Wing Saber, it's obvious that a lot more thought was put into them individually than with their Energon counterparts, which only really looked good when combined with each other. I've had no problem with the Sonic Wing mode, as my Optimus has pretty decent legs. If you move Wing Saber's nose/cannon assembly up over Optimus' head, that'll shift the center of gravity forward a bit, and might help with stability. There's an undocumented cannon "stand" that flips up from around WIng Saber's head that will hold the cannon in place.

I too am disappointed with the undercarriage, as it was so elegantly put. "Lazy designers" is more like it, though I understand that it has to transform into three things, essentially. The leg tabs are lame, and I had the most ridiculous time getting them to line up, but after some fiddling it's not a problem anymore. Good point on the cannon stand...dunno why they didn't mention it. Also unmentioned is the chest plate's ability to "open up" for a little more intimidating Sonic Wing mode. The finger retraction is a nice touch. Oh, and the design is very loosely based on an A-10 Thunderbolt, similarly the inspiration for Powerglide and one of the combiner planes in Energon whose name escapes me.

I found him at Target as well. The gold chest is very well done. The swords on mine are weird though. They're grey on the top and white on the bottom. Any one else have this? (No it's not an April Fool's joke).

The swords on mine are white on the bottom, too. I'm sure they're supposed to be that way in the US version.

Wing Saber's hands... shouldn't they could have added detachable fists so he could also hold his swords as well?

You just gotta hate it when some paintjobs were cheapass... like when Optimus's Cyber Planet Key didn't have the gold border... just my opinion though...

He can hold the swords on the side of his arms, when placed in their little holders.

I just got this guy. I'm going to try and be as honest as I can, however, Wing Saber is on my top 3 most wanted Cybertron figures list... that list consisting of, and in no particular order, Hot Shot, Crosswise and Wing Saber. I was infatuated with these guys (most notably Hot Shot, as when GF Hot Shot was new, I had just started getting back into TFs again, and the Hot Rod homage was just too clear... Excillion is another story for another thread, however) when I first saw pictures of them, and when I found them in stores, I was thoroughly elated, and upon opening, it was love at first sight. Wing Saber is no different. However, if you check my Crosswise feedback, you'll see how while I wanted him to be my first A+ grade, I still docked him some points for some things... just because I love these guys, doesn't mean I can't be objective.

I'm going to start with bot mode this time, because that's how I have him right now. The hottest topic on this guy is his yellow chest - flat yellow, rather than chrome. After hearing about the flaking chrome and such ugliness about GF Sonic Bomber.. I wanted to get Wing Saber, just to preserve his appearance... but honestly, judging from pictures, I liked Sonic Bomber better. I have to say, the flat yellow chest looks terrible in pictures - it's SO much better in person. I wish I knew someone who had a Sonic Bomber so I could see for myself the difference. But honestly, the yellow is quite fitting, and I don't think there'd be a word of complaint about it if SB (Sonic Bomber) didn't have the chrome. Your opinion may vary... but if you think the yellow looks horrible in pictures... well, you're right. It looks horrible in pictures. It looks pretty good in person though. Also, the bar across his nose is straight. Someone mentioned in some thread that in the cartoon, SB/WS's (WS = Wing Saber) bar is bent a little, and said that that means the SB is more show-accurate. Well, if you look closely at WS (or the Sonic Convoy version of SB), the bar is bent - outwards. I was watching the "United" episode (Cybertron/GF 31), and... it's pretty clear, the bar just bends to go over his nose. :p  I'm of the opinion it's supposed to be straight.

But let's drop comparisons and go to the figure.

Hot-Shot!!! said WS is shorter than he expected... honestly, he's a little bigger than I expected. Again, I guess pictures can only show you so much. However, when I combined him and Prime for Sonic Convoy/Sonic Wing Mode, it put him into perspective. I am now of the opinion that he is very appropriately sized.

I love the hands. Even though they can't hold anything (although I suppose they could if you get creative with your other toys' weapons/held things), they're really original, and I like the individual fingers. Not exactly anatomically correct as far as humans are concerned, but... this is a freakin' robot. The arms are fairly well articulated. Double-jointed elbows (such as on the Alt Subaru, RX-8 and Scion Alts/BTs), and an unorthodox shoulder joint, which was clearly designed with SC/SWM (Sonic Convoy/Sonic Wing Mode) in mind. The joint itself is actually at the top of the wing... so extending his arms straight out will put his arms at the same height as his head. Still, as long as you don't put his arms all the way up or at a 90 degree angle to the wing, the joints are just fine for posing. There's a swivel join at the top of the elbow, and a ratchet joint that moves laterally just above that; the missile pods that swing out for SWM/SC kinda prevent those from being too useful, though.

The head is on a swivel joint. Nothin' else to say about that. Of note, however, is that while the cartoon depicts WS/SB with a young face, the toy has a bit more of a grizzled war veteran look to it. I think it's the frown.

Legs. Waist swivel, knees are on ratchets, hip joints allow the legs to move forward, backward and out on ratchets. Ankles are also on ratchets, I think... but they pretty much have two settings as far as that's concerned. Still, they can be put in a good range of positions. They just won't click unless they're all the way one way or the other. As far as aesthetics... the legs look very appropriate. Pictures are pretty accurate as far as the legs/feet go.

Transformation is pretty simple, but with enough steps that it's fun. This is one of the most important things to me when buying a transformer, and the thing I spend the least time describing. After all, it's fun to transform one of these guys for the first time using your own method, right? Figure it out yourself, look at pictures, try to follow the cartoon, read the instructions... however you want to do it. Anyway... I liked it. I will comment on the legs becoming engines though, just as it seems everyone else has. I had no problems with his right leg/engine. His left, however, is a perfect example of why I'm not big on ratchet joints - it just doesn't fit well. One more click at the waist point, and it would work, but one more click, and it won't rotate into place. Honestly though, I don't think he'll be spending much time in this mode. One thing I noted... his head is a little hard to pull out. I had to pry it out the first time I transformed him, but after that, I've been able to finagle it out more easily.

Alt mode. It's a bomber plane! It's armed to the teeth, too. It's been mentioned that there's a big undercarrage... well, there is. But it's only in the center of the plane. If you look at it from the side, it's obscured by the chain guns (his fingers). It's not that bad. The alt mode is a lot bigger than I had expected, to be honest, but again, having WS in hand, I understand it.

Lastly, SWM/SC. Ugh. Yanno what? I'm actually getting kinda tired of typing, so I won't describe it. At first, I wanted WS for his individual toy - and I got what I wanted. I'm very happy with it. SWM/SC didn't interest me too much, but I was mildly curious. I gave it a try, and I have to say... I was VERY impressed. It's MUCH cooler than I thought it would be.

So... in the end... I'm going to give Wing Saber an A grade. He's almost perfect... but not quite. I love this freakin' toy, though. Highly, highly reccomended.

Ok. On my Wing saber, one of the holes for the sword handle storage is too loose to contain the handle, it immediately falls out. Looking down on it, with the nose pointed down, it's the one on the left. Anyone else run into this?

I find lifting the cockpit stand out of the way helps.

My swords are also fine... in fact, the sword handles are pretty tight on mine, too. I have trouble getting em out.

I still love the bastard, though. ;)

Do not understand people who are happy that his chest isnt chrome like Sonic Bombers is. It looks absolutely amazing on Sonic Bomber... and oh yeah, the swords just look sick. Then again, maybe Im not as picky as some people. I dont look at Transformers just to find something I dont like, Im happy to have what Ive got.

Honestly though, I've owned Sonic Bomber for 6 months now. But when I saw Wing Saber's chest for the first time I almost puked.

well i like my wing saber...the yellow chrome would have been nice however its just something that will wear. I do wish they would have chromed the swords though. Plus I just picked him up at target for a total with tax of 26.49! The retail is 29.99 on ultras and I am sure it cost more to import a sonic bomber, and to me the $$ savings alone makes him worth every penny.

I agree. The extra money it takes to import Sonic Bomber just isn't worth the chrome, which I don't like anyway. The only TF I wouldn't mind importing is Vector Prime.

Yeah, save the hyperbole for things that deserve it, like seeing your mom naked. Unless your name is Maddox Jolie, in which case, why not send your mom my way. ;)
