I think it’s safe to say that it will certainly break the 800 million barrier at the end of its run. Reaching over 900 is a very good possibility, too. I would even say it has an outside chance of breaking one billion, but I doubt it.

As for opening weekend I think it could do well over 100 million.

A lot of people keep on saying that ROTF left a bad taste in people’s mouths, yet it made over 830 million worldwide. So I think, coupled with 3D, it will do better overall.

Exactly, and so far the story sounds way better than ROTF, so yeah im hoping it gets a nifty 75% or a bit more.

Huge opening, maybe a decent rating on RT.

I saw ROTF in an urban dollar theatre, and there were plenty of general audience people there. They laughed and said, "DAAAAAAAAMN!!!" They came out of the theatre telling each other, "Wow, that was a good movie."

The thing with movies is, people just want to have a good time. If a movie makes them laugh, it was a good movie. If it had a badass fight scene, it was good. Sure, the movie may be "in", like Green Lantern and Kung Fu Panda are with their countless commercials, but the point is people just go to the movies to have a good time, and an escape from work, kids, or life. That was Bay's biggest excuse besides the Writer's Strike, and I'm no Bay Purist, but he's got a point.

However, Pirates of the Caribbean seems to be about to break $1 billion, so I doubt we'll beat that. Add the inevitably HUGE billion dollar final Harry Potter film, and boy, we are number 3 this summer.

I think it could do rather well on the Tomato Meter. From the spoilers there are things that normally wouldn't be expected out of a Micheal Bay film and critics do seem to enjoy getting something they were not expecting. With all the really bad 3D out there a film with really good 3D is going to score some points with the critics as well.

Box office is a tough call. Big films released on the 4th of July normally get a big opening weekend so there is that going for big opening in the US. But the film is going to be sandwiched in between a Pixar film in Cars 2 and the media hype that is sure to come with an end to the Harry Potter films. We've also seen how films that have been popular to rip on have hurt the sequel that is a better film. I'm sure the film will not flop but even with the 3D surcharge I'm just not sure the film can hit that one billion mark.

But I find the box office and DVD sales to be a fairly useless meter for how good or bad a film is so I'll find other methods to judge the film.

    Here's a little nugget of information :)

We in the UK don't get Cars 2 until July 22nd so we literally only have Green Lantern which came out today to watch, and to be honest I think people would rather save their money to watch Transformers over that :)

At least $700 million at the box office and less then 50% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Probably won't do quite as well as ROTF due to the exteme negative reaction, but should at least match TF1.

I think it's impossible for a action film about giant alien robots directed by Michael Bay to get any more then 50% realistically. The critics will be too focused on how long the battles last and the lack of story.

I don't think it will break the billion dollar barrier, but I do think it'll come close. I know there are some 3-D films out now that are being outgrossed by their 2-D versions (Pirates 4, for example) but I don't think this will affect DOTM, as unlike Pirates which had very shoddy 3-D effects, DOTM has used the crew for Avatar, and that will surely get the attention of some people. I despised Avatar for its plot and characters, but damn, the 3-D was good.
In terms of reception, I have no idea, the 3-D effects will probably be praised, but I don't expect anyone to be writing postively about the plot and other aspects.
But then, I REALLY don't care what critics say

A movie has done an extremely really well job, if it passed the 1 billion dollar limit. I think Transformers 3 will just do that. Just over a billion dollar. Oh my god, imagine the money Michael Bay as the director will receive

I imagine that Dark of the Moon will beat the heck out of Green Lantern across the pond. I know lots of geeks, nerds, and comic book fans but I'm hard pressed to find any of my friends that are actually excited about the Green Lantern movie.

This is aimed at people from 13 up, plus the generation who liked the original cartoon.
Cars 2 is aimed at younger kids and Harry Potter isn't out until halfway through July. That takes Cars 2 out of the picture as it is aimed at a different audience, and Harry Potter is redundant unless people are planning on watching 1 blockbuster film per year...

Sorry for the nit picking :p
