I disagree completely. I still love Lion's Transformer song. Thank goodness for varying taste. The Touch is my least favorite song, and Instrument of Destruction, my favorite. With the TF Theme song as second.

And yeah, that Cheap Trick song was one of the few songs I enjoyed in the album.

Just listened to the song you're talking about, and it turns out I was wrong! The song I meant in my last post was the one by Black Lab. Sorry.

Cheap Trick's song is good (even on par with the original by Lion), but I don't see it fitting with the movie in itself. It feels like something made 20 years ago.

See above. And yeah, IoD was fricken awesome. Also, 'Dare' I personally find to be superior to 'The Touch'.

Man, I'm really digging all the Skillet love! Been following these guys since '98. Love 'em!

Totally agree. And I think Hero might have been a tad more fitting. But Awake and Alive is a good song as well. Mastadon isn't bad, but I don't really get in to metal. In fact, I probobly never even would have known who they were except that they're in NFS: Most Wanted, lol.

Having your own taste is one thing. Presenting your opinion as though anyone who disagrees is a moron is another entirely. Share your opinion, ONCE, and without being offensive, and then SHUT UP. Fail on all fronts, there.

And yes, I'd love to ignore it, except that you won't stop posting it!!!

Literally lol'd. Very well made point, my friend! It is indeed all opinion. People like what they like and that's that. The difference is with people who feel that their opinion is the RIGHT one. Then it turns into trolling. (looks at the numerous posts by blue death)

@ blue death: Alright, alright, sorry... I'll leave ya alone.

And what about Skillet is "cookie cutter shit" exactly? If you're gonna bash my fave band, have some facts to back it up. But seeing as how most music talk is all opinion, what do you say to toning it down just a bit?

From the first 45 seconds of the song in question.

Autotune on the female vocals, the very definition of musical cookie cutter (possibly on the male vox too, need a better quality copy than youtube)
    Uninspired generic lyrics.
Chord structure and riffs used many times before.
The same synth string sound effect used by a lot of these "anthemic" types

Couldn't be arsed to listen to any more.

I'm not opposed to different types of music being used on the soundtrack. I'd just prefer the ones used to be done well.

I don't expect anyone to agree with me, but when I think "ideal soundtrack music for a Transformers movie", genres like electro, industrial, EBM, etc. are what instantly come to mind - not crap like Goo Goo Dolls, Nickleback and everything else that falls into that pit of cookie cutter pop rock schlock & watered down metal bands telling themselves that they're somehow hard hitting and/or "alternative".

At least they've nailed it with the Steve Jablonsky scores for each movie. Epic symphonic overtures with pinches of experimental electro = perfect music to match to cinematic scale of these movies.

lol, that's nothing compared to their song "Hot Dog"....overall I hate Limp Bizkit, just always thought their stuff was pretty stupid.

Breaking Benjamin shoulda got a song on the soundtrack, nearly every song on Dear Agony was so epic.

This is the fun thing about this whole discussion. The score by Steve Jablonsky is more loved, and I'd have to agree with that - I like those much, much better than the 'regular' albums, too..BUT:

If you actually have some experience as a composer and know something about movie scores, you'd find out that Hans Zimmer and the people he trained / are working at/for his studio, like Steve Jablonsky, aren't exactly loved for their score quality. A common complaint is that it's mostly one-track songs, without much depth, and that they recycle ALOT of their previous work for new scores.

Now, I like to think I've got enough self-mockery - and ability to enjoy things for what they are - to understand where these complaints are coming from, but still I really enjoy the TF movie scores.

Other people, on the other hand, are making it some kind of personal goal to trash bands like Linkin Park as much as they can within a topic, only to continue and say they like the Jablonsky scores, which are, if you understand what I said above, pretty much the Linkin Park of movie scores.

It's when people do that when their whole 'argument' falls apart for me.

Again, just keep enjoying what you like, everybody, but pleeaaase stop this madness. There's a correct time for any genre/song, as there are numerous uses to music. I could start trashing the Black Eyed Peas, but then again, I bet there are people having a genuine great time listening to that music at a club or whatever...does it really matter?

I finally just realized what songs Skillet does - yeah, that stuff is pretty much the definition of cookie-cutter shit. I hear their stuff on the rock station every day, I just never knew their name.

I never knew they were Christian rock - that certainly isn't helping their case at all.

You can't judge a song, especially a Metal song, after 45 seconds! Some versions of Awake & Alive CHANGE just past that. I know the copy I have goes heavy just past 45 secs.

Then we have the whole bit w/ Skillet changing up what genre their songs fall into, so we probably haven't even heard anything close to what will be in DotM/ on the CD (assuming even those are the same).

Awake And Remixed - EP - Album Detail - skillet.com If you scroll down a bit, you'll find a Remix of Awake & Alive that doesn't even go Rock till 3:30 in. Before that, it's a light piano medley. This shows how they play w/ their songs, & that we have ABSOLUTELY No idea what will end up in DotM.

I'm sure if you look around, you can find a version of many of Skillet's songs that you could sit & listen to.

And Skillet isn't the only band that plays w/ their styles. Another Christian Band, the Newsboys, use a different style on every song; at least 8 different styles, switched between them over 12 times in one song of theirs I have. There are some bands out there where you have to sample many of their songs before you can decide if you like them or not, because they switch things up from song to song, or even w/in a song or between plays of the same song. Certain bands can't be judged after just 45 seconds. You have to sample much more to see what they're doing.

You know what, I never expected to post a link to a Christian website, of any kind, outside of the Christian Social Group. But Bands like Skillet mix things up like that.

& Skillet's lyrics fall outside the Cookie Cutter for a number of reasons, the first being they're a Christian Band! Their lyrics are inspired differently than most other bands, so it comes off strange or uninspired to some groups.

You can't compare a Christian Band, especially Skillet, to secular bands of similar styles like that. They have different motives & goals for their music.
