This would be a great question for the Botcon panel in a couple weeks.

I haven't gone through and read all 16 pages (25 posts a page), so I will probably just be repeating what has already been said.

It seems like with this new mold Takara has been following the popular IDW trend. I don't know about you guys, but this Prime screams of various amalgamations from a lot of the IDW series.

I agree with what few posts I have read. That is the price tag doesn't quite justify what's included here. Especially with reduced size of the figure. I too will be interested to see how and if they utilize die-cast on this new mold, and if they are, for lack of a better word, smart about it. Hopefully no more flimsy plastic knee joints in between the heavy die-cast legs and torso.

I always believed, now more so than ever, that the MP-01, MP-04, 20th Anniversary, or any other of the 7 iterations of that mold is the best modern day representation of Generation 1 Optimus Prime. Eight years after the initial release of the MP-01 Takara attempts to replace a figure that describes it's self in it's name. A Masterpiece. When I look at this MP-10 I don't see a replacement for the 01. I see a very well articulated and detailed figure of Optimus Prime, but nothing yet that makes me want to personally label the MP-10 a "Masterpiece".

It has been pointed out, either earlier in this thread, or in the old thread. I don't feel like verifying if it was posted here or not, but people have questioned the Hasbro stamp.

Yes, yes it is... :(  and also the Seekers, but I have my iGear PP01 Prime whom fits in nicely.

He does look very nice, but I don't really like the cheats in the transformation though.

I'm still not over the disappointment of my MP Rodimus. Right now I can't justify the cost if he ends up being as fragile as Rodimus.

But hey if you buy this Prime/Convoy and own MP-01 you can have Prime in scale with both Hotrod and Rodimus.

I wonder if the MP10 will be able to work with the MP4 trailer that way I only need to do is get the hasbro version without the trailer when it comes out.

Two different sizes of figure so, no the trailer won't work.

Id say this one is a masterpiece. So is the old one, for its time. But this one is far better than the old one. Just looks amazing, comes with a trailer, isnt frickin huge, and has a truck mode that doesnt look like crap. My only problem with it is the $250 price tag. I cant wait to see them update Starscream.

The more I look at this the worse I think he looks. Bleh. I don't like the narrow chest windows, the giant long stomach, the stumpy lower legs, etc. The first MP Convoy has far more pleasing proportions.

The only upside I can see is that they might have designed this with an armored MP Ultra Magnus in mind. It would be madness, at this point, to design a brand-spanking-new Prime mold without having a set of Magnus armor in mind for it.

How could they make it look worse than the original Masterpiece? I know the original is fantastic...but it came out years ago...they should be able to do better by now. I just...I don't even know what to say about this. If it gets a US release, I might consider it, but this certainly didn't live up to my expectations.

Yup... as well as with the Seekers... which is why I'm confused at how many people are proclaiming so-called perfect scale here. If Grimlock was the size of MP-01 and the Seekers were about 1.5-2 inches taller, then the MP line would be "perfect".

I don't know, I think the whole scale thing with MP's has been fuckered ever since MP-03, and it's only gotten more confusing with Grimlock & Rodimus. As stand-alone display pieces, they're all fine. But when trying to maintain some sort of scale accurate display, it still doesn't work imo. But to each their own :)

I think it looks fantastic. Probably can't afford to get it, but I think it looks great, I'm surprised by all the disappointment.

That's the thing - the big pitch here is that he's in scale with MP Rodimus Prime but in vehicle mode MP-01 WAS in scale with Rodimus! (as seen here: http://higekumatoytoy.blog60.fc2.com/blog-entry-1004.html)

I'd say more of the disappointment comes with the price more than anything.

I mean, a half pint MP with a trailer that costs over $150 more than the original full size MP Prime is pretty insane...even for Takara.

Hasbro will probably sell the Prime alone with no trailer for $50-$60. So in the end...the cost of the trailer, which isn't even really all that much of a MP will cost roughly $200 when it's all said and done.

    INSANE!

I would guess that if Hasbro did do an Optimus only release it would be $80 what MP Grimlock sold for. If they did bring the trailer over with this new release I would guess around $150 if TRU did pick it up.

To which we'll likely get either "no current plans" or "we're looking into it".

Which both mean about the same thing.

Truck mode is nice but something just doesn't sit right for me with the bot mode. I'll not be rushing to pre-order.

Well, $50-60 is optimistic. I think we're done seeing that kind of price for Hasbro Masterpieces. We still don't know what they'll ask for Rodimus. And that doesn't include all the safety compromises and paint app corner cuts we're likely to see.

You would think that if they were going to go through all of this trouble to redo him, they would have found a better way to hide the rear wheels rather than throwing a cover on them. I can undestand on the THS model, but not this. We've seen better from them. That aside, everything else looks good. Come on reborn Starscream!
