As soon as I find something to add for the free shipping, I'll preorder this!
Hmmm... maybe the upcoming Timothy Zahn Star Wars novel...

Really hope the $20.99 price tag will get people buying this as wile I won't be one of them, I'm really hoping this does well enough to get Masterforce released here as that I would buy for sure (as well as Victory if the price was right).

I'll probably pass on this, although $21 is a very attractive price, even if it does turn out crappy. But I don't have too much interest in the Japanese TF series to begin with and I only watch dubbed shows, so I can't see purchasing this if there's no dub and/or an outstandingly bad dub. I can definitely understand Shout not doing a new dub, though; this is already a niche product and raising the price much at all would probably cut the potential sales down immensely.

One thing I'm curious about is how widely released this set will be in brick-and-mortar stores. Is the "Transformers" name enough to get it into Wal-Mart and Target or is "poorly dubbed, obscure Japanese series" going to dissuade them from carrying it?

I'll be passing on this too, but if they do Victory... That will be a different story

It's not just getting the actors, silly. If the original production track still exhists and I seriously doubt that, you could just do a redub. They'd probably be looking at new music and effects too. That's serious studio booking time and a crapload of money. You might as well almost do a new series at that point.

If no one buys this, that's highly unlikely to happen.

For what it's worth, Headmasters "almost" had a new English dub on this DVD set. Some of us from TFCog had contacted Shout! about providing new voice overs on several episodes free of charge, and they were, for a while, legitimately interested.

Unfortunately, they ran into a bit of a legal snafu with Hasbro: in order to get a new dub made, all the new scripts (even if direct translations) would have to first be approved by Hasbro, an that process could take a while, as they have to balance if they're "okay" with their brand characters saying what is in the script.

And frankly, Hasbro wasn't interested in doing it. They don't even, honestly, like to acknowledge a lot of the Japanese anime as it has a lot of characters talking and acting in ways that Hasbro does not full approve of in the first place.

Edit: here's an example of a fandub video that was made specifically for the Shout! set:

So for those saying "hey, they could get a voice cast, and re-dub the whole things," the answer is "no, they couldn't." Not even when said voice cast was willing to work for free.

    pre-ordered off amazon!

people if you like masterforce or victory, BUY THIS SET, the release of those DEPENDS on headmasters selling well, if it doesn't sell well, no masterforce, no victory

even if you are waiting for a complete collection, BUY THIS SET

you should have no problem selling them later, but really, to wait is only gonna DOOM this set....headmasters being release is a huge risk and shout factory is using it to test the market if it is profitable to do this

i hate to say this....but that dub that was linked was pretty horrific and glad it isn't being included.....i'll stick to the subtitles

Somehow I get the feeling this may contain the malay dub.

    T_T

I'll still buy it, but it'd be nice if they'd redub it to at least on par to the US series and no, I don't feel the fan dub is on par to that.

If it's just subbed though, and subbed decently, I can live with that.

This. Masterforce is wonderful. I loved it even when I had the crappy raw Japanese tv-recorded version on VHS. I loved it again with TV-Nihon. I'm really looking forward to owning an "official" copy of it.

Naturally, I'll buy all three series.
