Does anyone in or near Pasadena have crash space, or is able to recommend a youth hostel or really cheap hotel? The one I thought I had found online seems to be out of business. :\

I would just see if you can get in with a group of 3 or 4 other people for a room at the convention. Sure it can kind of be uncomfortable filling a room with bodies but it is cheap and helps you have people to do things with in the off times.

Good plan, but I don't have any local TF fans to travel with, to my knowledge. :\

Anyone reading this looking for an extra person?

How far ahead of registration (and how long from now, by estimates) will the brochure come out?

The brochure should be coming up soon and I would imagine registration would be the following week.

Hmm...been a LONG time since I posted. And it's been awhile since I attended Botcon, so I need to ask these questions.

    1) What is the guest panel looking like now? Tried going on the Botcon site - lo and behold, it's currently down...! I'll try again later, but hopefully there's someone who knows off the bat.

    2) Will there be a voice acting contest? Those were fun.

I have a credit which basically will result in me getting a free flight anywhere I want inside the 48 contiguous states. But considering that I've been to numerous Botcons before, I want to see if what the lineup is shaping out to be before I book a flight. Thanks.

1.) There aren't any guests lined up yet (or that have been announced anyways). Those should start being announced pretty soon.

2.) I looked all over the brochure and all I see are mainly art contests. I haven't seen them do voice acting contests the last 2 years I've gone.
    Hope this helps...

Okay, thanks for the quick response.

I haven't been to Botcon since the Rhode Island one back in 2007. Seriously considering it though...just need that last bit of info to push me over the edge. Botcon 2004 was one of the best conventions I've ever attended and it would be nice to return to the Pasadena area.

All I know is that it will be an excellent substitute for the MotorCity ComiCon which I'm abandoning right now (straight up trash now - sorry Michiganders). Last 'decent' convention was when Rob Paulsen was there and we were chatting about the Red Wings and Livonia area.

Botcon- Tips for first time attendees?

First time attendee and I am excited!!! Just wondering if other veteran botcon goers have any tips on things to expect and what they learned from their past experiences to make the future botcon experience that much better.

    Thanks!

I'm sure others will add to this, but these are the most important things I've learned from going to Botcon since 2004:
-Some dealers will take Paypal or cards, but most usually prefer cash, so keep this in mind. And expect the ATMs near the convention centre to run low on money pretty quickly; there will be a HELL of a lot of people hitting them up for more money.
-Be ready to queue, especially for autographs or exclusives. You could end up spending a long time in some of the queues for the more popular guests. Also, bear in mind that you might have to start queueing pretty darn early for some guests; when Weird Al was at Botcon in 2009 we were queueing at 5am, and we were nowhere near the first people in the queue.
-Guests are there to have fun as well; if you bump into one wandering around it's usually fine to say hi and ask them if they're having a nice time, but don't talk shop constantly.
-Don't be shy! A large part of what makes Botcon fun for a lot of people (myself included) is the social aspect of it all. So if you see someone you recognise from TFW (or anywhere else you post), go up and say hi. Most of us won't bite, and not many of us are rude in person (despite what happens on TFW). :)
-Remember that you're there to have fun. You paid a crapload for this, so don't let that occasional rude dick who pushes in front of you or doesn't want to chat to you ruin that fun. At the end of the day, things like that don't matter anyway.
-SHOWER EVERY DAY. This really cannot be stressed enough. You (metaphorically speaking, and not specifically aimed at you in person) might not think you smell that bad but when you get a couple of thousand people in a room who all thought the same thing, you soon find out how horribly wrong that thought was...!

if they are doing the pick ups and drop off for the tours the same place they did in 2009. Then it will be behide the Sheraton on Green street, just before you cross the street to head to OLD Town. Just look for the big crowd of tfans standing around

Assume we'll get confirmation on this before we head out though?

Yeah we will and if your running even a minute late Brian will be on the phone. At least he was with us last year. I think we arrived at 7.32am and he's already been calling the room for a while. :lol

I wouldn't mind but we were all stood around till nearly 8am. Still it was good to know they didn't want to leave anyone behind.
