What really raises my bile is the same people complaining that noone ever offers to help America when America has a problem, where meanwhile the Japanese were one of the first nations to respond offering aid on both 9/11 and the Katrina disaster, the government of Japan providing millions in funding and material aid, and the Japanese people providing even more. Well, there's usually hydrogen in the turbines, so yeah, that seems likely. Better a fire in the turbines than the reactor though, and at least (I think) they managed to safely cool the reactor down in that case. In slightly "good" news though, that volanco seems to be one that was active as shortly as 2 weeks ago, and was active since January, so its likely that safety measures were already in place.

Much information can be found on the internet regarding that topic. I'm not close to them, but the warning stems to all of Japan. Just yesterday news went out of an evacuation in these areas which went from 10km to 20km away. All residents of Japan are advised to not drink tap water. The prime minister today asked for more support from the doctors here to aid in this time of crisis. Also I'd like to thank all of you who give your support, you know who you are and I really appreciate being thought of somewhat. I'm alright, but preparing for some more earthquakes real soon. Are there seriously people out there trying to say that the tsunami and earthquake, and the ensuing destruction and death of thousands is "karma" for Pearl Harbor? What kind of no-brain scum are they?! Whoever thinks that needs to take a step back and take a deep look into the mirror, and then have it smashed over their idiotic heads! So, let me get this straight: The earthquake and tsunami are karma for Pearl Harbor...so what was the decimation and brutal slaughter of innocent people (not soldiers) at the hands of AMERICANS at Hiroshima and Nagasaki then? Gestures of good will? Human tragedies bring out the best in humanity, exemplified by the heroic relief workers and the internal strength and resilience of the Japanese people in these critical times. Unfortunately, they also bring out the scum of humanity. I am close to weeping when reading and watching the news...it is just too tragic to watch.
Yes, people are saying those things; just glance at the comments posted on the CNN news stories about this disaster. It's enough to make me sick to my stomach. People are saying the Japanese don't deserve US support because they're getting what they deserve for Pearl Harbor, and that the nukes we dropped were to save Japanese lives by ending the war so that doesn't count, and there are even some idiots saying that Pearl Harbor was worse than 9/11 and that the Japanese are the ones responsible for WWII, and saying that comparing this tragedy to what happened to Japan in WWII is a slap in the face to the millions who died at the hands of the "Axis of Evil." The Japanese are the most polite and respectful people I've ever met in my life. I visited Tokyo before I ever went to New York City, and the first time I went to NYC all I could think of was how awful it was, and how horribly Americans treated one another (i.e., people screaming and swearing at bus drivers, fellow passengers, and two people getting into a brutal fistfight on a subway car because one guy's music was turned up too loud on his iPod), compared to the extreme politeness and good will found in Japan. It makes me so sad to think that these people are vilified out of ignorance and misplaced hatred. All of the sad excuses for human beings who claim that Japan is just getting karmic payback should go visit the Hiroshima Memorial Museum before spouting off all this bigoted crap. Seriously, our country has become such a cesspool of vitriol and hatred that it's downright appalling and getting close to convincing me to move to Canada.
Listen all we really need to get back on topic in this thread. My Granddad was at Pearl and I could go on and on, same as the bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those events were military operations and then we could begin to discuss the MacArthur rebuild but this is a natural disaster. We need to keep positive for our allies, we need to support our allies, and there will be a time for reflection but now we need to keep moving forward. People are suffering and they are dying as I type this. This is not the appropiate time and really not the appropiate place to be bringing up the specters of the past. The world is hurting right now, so its easy to fall into the "well after all the BS you deserved it." Point is no one deserves the tragedy of war, the tragedy of 9/11, or the tragedy of a natural disaster but happened it did. We have to survive this, we will take it with us internally, and we will be changed by it. So please, the posts from other boards don't bring them here. My prayers are with the Japanese people and my heart really does go out to them.
