Even though I'm a huge MB fan, I can't stand it when he uses his racist stereotypes. The Mexicans who worked for Bernie Mac's car-lot in TF1, the cock-eyed south-east-Asian dude in ROTF, and worst of all, he showed Jazz talking and acting like a 14 year old jive talking teenager. Jazz was suppose to be depicted in a cool manner, sort of like Billy Dee Williams, instead, Bay decided to depict him like Waka Flocka.

5 pages of posts based on a blog from an excellent author who has penned such other excellent blog posts as:
Were the Nazis First to Develop 3D Movies?
Why Arnold Schwarzenegger Shouldn't Return to the 'Terminator' Franchise?

No seriously thats what this guy writes about

Even if the Wreckers are the worst hicks in a movie since JOE DIRT who gives a flying f*ck???

Michael Bay uses Racism in his movies for the same reason he uses sexy sluts, explosions, and violence: People love them!!!! Yes they are cheap and exploit the lowest common denominator but damn it all if people don't keep enjoying it and coming back for more

Who honestly cares? People are becoming way too sensitive about these things.

Lawls. Are you new to the internet?

Okay so you don't read(I assume if you're not reading comics you're also not reading books), now I understand your point of view better...as in how limited it probably is. What else can I assume of someone who describes war as silly? Maybe our current set of permanent wars has blunted the impression that they are horrible, serious and yes depressing affairs? I think the time is right for a TF property with more emotional depth and a more serious tone. You don't agree. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

    Oh for God's sake.

The movie hasn't even come out yet and already critics and journalists are judging the characters, none of which have even spoken in the trailer yet.

I don't think Bay will give the characters stereotypical voices and personalities, or allow them to be given those things. I image the head will be as far as it goes. Seriously, just calm down for now and wait until the movie comes out for God's sake!

Eh it just wouldn't be a Micheal Bay movie without some lazy stereotypes. Which is kind of frustrating since he will put days and days into something like cutting a moving bus in half but can't spend just a little time coming up with something better than stereotypes.

Or maybe that's part of his appeal of always going for the lowest common denominator or going the low road so that even the thickest of viewers will not have to tax their brain.

I cannot at all see a mullet. There is no "party in the back." Judge wig, Egyptian headress, floppy rabbit ears, ancient Greek/Roman(?) hairstyle, Jesus, yeah I could see those, but not a mullet.

And assuming a mullet MUST mean the character will be a stereotypical redneck is just wrong.

I'm guessing people don't know what a mullet actually looks like. I think they see NASCAR in the movie and assume there will be some stereotypes. I'm not saying there won't be, but the article that was posted is based all on assumptions. Pretty useless article in my opinion.

That Rob guy and his fans over at Topless Robot are positively frothing with impotent rage over this. I think he's essentially declared war on DOTM.

    Which is kind of sad.

I bet if Ramjet were in the movie, critics would accuse Bay of putting a robotic Klansman in the film. I mean, Ramjet is white and has a pointy head, so what else could the explanation be?

^ Rob declared war on the movie franchise from day 1, essentially. He's got a pretty good site but any article on the TF movie series is pure bile.

It's unfortunate that his latest bile triggered someone's "potentially profitable controversy" switch.

I know it's passe, but I'm waiting to make up my mind. Just looking at the toys, I legitimately can't tell if these design elements are real (for instance that's not a damn mullet) and thus, while it's entirely possible that the characters will be obnoxious stereotypes, it's not necessarily the case. And this is coming from someone who loathes Skids and Mudflap and thinks that their personalities combined with their character designs were an unfortunate mistake at best.

It is, however, obviously permissible to give robots traits and dialects that are associated with a region, because they've been doing it in Transformers since Day 1. So no, if these characters merely have Southern accents and a "gung ho" personality I don't think that's sufficient to rage over. Unless you're Rob, who frankly is playing his "serious issues with Michael Bay" card so hard that it's at least partly a joke. Partly.
