I'm more open to a reboot. Carry over Frank Welker as Soundwave, maybe Peter Cullen as Prime, and keep Simmons, Morshower, and maybe Epps.

Of course he wants more movies, more $$$$ for Hasbro. I admit, I'm enjoying the popularity Transformers is getting among casual and general audience. So I guess just reboot the franchise, end the Bay story here.

If they reboot, I hope its more badass sci-fi , with characters that are actually who they are. Just my opinion. Sideswipe is a Red Lambo. Whats so hard about not screwing that up?
And have it in space and stuff like that. I dont need to see Earth, I live here....

Hoping for a load of G1 and neo-G1 (WFC, Dreamwave, IDW etc) influences if the reboot comes to fruition. Many lessons can be learned from what went on with the first movies.

As much as I love Transformers. I'm not excited for a 4th Transformers movie, but I would watch it and probably like it. Micheal Bay or not, I'd like it to stay a trilogy. Unless by one in a million chance, another director decided to make it G1 like the one in 1986...

 

A 4th movie for most series' can dry out a story line, but with Transformers, I feel there is more that can make a 4th one, as long as it's done right.

I will have to wait and see DOTM to be sure on my opinion.

 

There will be a fourth Transformers film with or without Mr. Bay. Paramount will want one, and Hasbro will demand one. Bay has made it clear quite a few times now that he is done with Transformers, so it looks like it will be without him.

 

I would be in favour of a "soft reboot" ie. continue in the same universe, maybe have a few characters return in cameos or to tie some loose strings up, but have largely a new cast of actors and TF characters, to take the story in a new direction.

Perhaps set it 10-20 years after DOTM.

And I definitely wouldn't mind if they did some "minor retooling" on the designs of the TFs, to make them just that little bit more recognizeable/humanoid looking.

 

^I'm thinking that's the route they're going to go. If you look at the trend, most newer movies based on "comic-book" properties stay as trilogies before getting a reboot (X-Men, Spider-Man). Guess we'll have to wait aind see.

 

I say either end it all with DOTM or expand on the Bay-verse with a new director and stronger character development for secondary characters. We don't need a reboot, especially so soon. At least another 15 -20 years before a reboot. I don't want TFs to go the way of the Spider Man franchise. Either way, I'm cool with not seeing another TF movie for about 3 years. I'm more excited about TF Prime at this point.

if micheal bay isnt directing it then the only way id see it is if... i dont know if christopher nolan directed it... although i dont know how that would turn out or if he even wants to.

 

This isn't really Nolans type of film, i would love to know why he Wanted to do the Batman films, i Think J.J. Abrams would be good, or maybe Zack Snyder

 

I don't really like reboots, I like continuation. Even if it is similar with Beast Wars/Beast Machines or the Unicron Trilogy.

For me it is mainly because of the figures where it could be one big army like how G1 was. For BW even though the design changed each season it was still in the same continuity. I don't like it when it is a small group and would look out of place with other series.

I almost did not get into the Animated toyline because IMO it was like 'starting over again'. I wont get into TF rime toys but will watch the show. I'm sticking with Movie and CHUG.

 

reboot doesn't necessarily require a new origin story...

Not that we ever got a fully fleshed out origin story in the Bayverse anyway, but a reboot could pick up with the Transformers' war on Earth already in full swing and dive right into the action. Some mods to alt modes here and there (flatnose Optimus, praps?), a few new 'bots on either side, and voila! -- new kick ass universe (one that doesn't hafta contradict the Bayverse entirely by ignoring most of it).

I think a Battlestar Galactica approach to a reboot would be exactly what the TF movies need. The new BSG series is aware of what came before it, but it reinvents the BSG universe by refining everything that worked the first time and taking the subject matter more seriously. Most of all, Ron Moore did a damn good job of developing the characters so that you actually cared about them, even the Cylons who were just "glorified toasters" (something that Bay's TF universe has failed to do even with the human characters). The BSG reimagining also ditched most of the goofy humor that made the original series cringeworthy at times. True, BSG is a TV series and not a feature film franchise, but the concept could still work.

There are plenty of young, brilliant filmmakers out there just waiting to cut their teeth on a franchise like TF. I hope we get one of them for the next trilogy!

 

As long as these movies keep making money, they'll keep making them. Simple as that.

They might change things up a bit, so we would theoretically have multiple movie series with different movie designs, etc. but I would guess after DOTM in 2011, we'd probably have another TF film sometime before 2014 or 2015 (wow, I hate thinking that far ahead).

Who knows if they would be better or worse, but if they kept on making Pirates of the Caribbean movies and X-Men spinoffs, I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened - eventually - to Transformers.

 

Sorry folks, but whoever replaces Bay will have just as little interest in character devleopment, and probably less of an eye for cinematography.

As much as many of you personally hate the man, most of the 'better' directors won't touch Transformers with a bargepole, but there are plenty far worse who would jump at the chance.
