More like he's trying to light up these dark reviews he keeps getting. :lol

@zeroomegazx: thanks for that info. When I have the time I'll brave taking mine apart to fix. I guess this spring issue is literally this releases achilles heel. I also want to thank matrix soul for the tip about the guns. Before he could only hold a gun in his right hand now I can get him to dual wield with no problem.

so, I'm having a hell of a time getting Roddy to stand. No matter how I try to balance him or how I configure his hips and knees, the ankles just frobble out and keep him from being able to maintain any kind of pose - even standing at attention. Does this mean the ankle springs blew out or something?

Just get one and buy the Hasbro version:2c: . I think its safe to assume Hasbro's will come with different accessories!

Initially I was actually thinking of picking another Rodimus (my current piece was fine other than the paint problem) but after reading that some fans had the same issues and that the paint problem was more serious than Jarrod's Rodimus, I decided not to. The QC is so inconsistent that its like a gamble in buying the toy.

I will either pick up the 2nd production (if there is one) and only after reading reviews that the various problems have been resolved or pick up the Hasbro version.

The toy isn't getting a favourable on amazon Japan rating either - 2 out of 5.

chrisr291 - and hopefully not only will the Hasbro toy be cheaper and with new extras, the toy could actually be more durable. Rodimus may meant to be a collector toy but it should be durable to withstand handling.

So I will post pics in the morning I am too beat to get the full fix up tonight but here are my thoughts:

    Pros:

I think he is a great feat of TF engineering. I dont think he is the most intricate I own though, some others ive had are worse. His folding legs are the worst parts ( i can think of HA Sideswipe being as annoying ) but its really not that bad if you just read the instructions once.

Awesome look in both bot and vehicle modes. I LOVE his car, its nice to finally have an accurate representation of his car.

    Cons:

Pee'ved at the feet issue but the fix is easy enough (will post it later). Still quite an annoying overlook the first few test units should have been caught with.

Plastic is very thin, you can see through it in good lighting. Its very delicate as most Macross Valks are, same kind of fragile feel. However if you own any of these you should know how to handle it

My leg covers have stress marks where other people have seen their but i have no cracks and no breaks yet so all is well! I think i have figured out how to handle them during transformation so there is little to no stress so im not too worried anymore about them (crosses fingers)

Overall I think if you like Hot Rod or Rodimus at all and were thinking about this figure, do it. You wont get a better representation of him and as long as you are careful you can be rough with him.

I doubt the Hasbro version will fix any of the flaws this one has though I could be wrong. The way the figure is designed im not sure any thicker plastic could have been used. I will still most likley pick one up though when they arrive.

Well, i've never seen a Hasbro toy that corrected the errors of a 1st run Takara release. Correct me if i'm wrong please but I just don't see that happening.

If anything, Hasbro is getting the second run on a fragile mold so i'd be even more concerned with that release:2c: .

My Hasbro Grimlock doesn't have the issue where the screws on the inside of the tail scratch the chrome like apparently the Takara one does.

I read somewhere on this thread & other parts of the forum, someone mentioned it was replaced with a flat screw-head instead.

The arm panels seem to be another fragile part of the figure. I've only opened them twice and I've noticed stress marks around the pin. I'm not sure if they were always there or if they formed after opening them. The panel doesn't seem like it's designed to open smoothly or maybe the plastic's just not flexible enough. Either way, I'm not going to be using them anymore since we've already got one reported case of breakage. Thankfully, they're not required for transformation.

But I don't have that problem either on my Takara Grimlock... Takara fixed it, not Hasbro:2c: . I was just lucky enough to get one of the later releases

I finally got my hot rod from bbts today, unfortunately I had to work tonight so I only got to spend about five minutes with him. He looks fantastic, I didn't see any stress marks or paint errors. I did notice the one gun did not fit tightly in the left hand, I will fix this with glue. I did not have anytime to transforms him, so I can't comment on that yet. The only problem I seen was his left ankle did not bend as well as the right, therefor I has trouble getting him to stand. I will looking in to fixing this, or maybe there is nohong wrong at all and i just need to fiddle with him some more. I'll post back when I actually get to spend some time wiu him. I'm definately happy I bought him

Takara corrected it on the second release of Grimlock. They just replaced the screw with a flat head pin.

On the topic of Rodimus though it sounds like everyone who has one is experiencing some kind of problem and it is not as isolated as some people would like to think, even the popular reviewers are having issues.

A similar thing happened last year to Hot Toys with their DX Batman. They caught wind of all of the issues of their figures and they corrected the future releases and they sent replacement bodies out to people who contacted them via their website or Facebook. It like Rodimus was a great design, it just got rushed through production and the final product suffered because of it.

I hope you guys can get everything sorted out and hopefully get replacements for any broken parts. You are paying top dollar for a figure made by a company who has been the largest maker of Transforming robots for decades and you really shouldn't have to deal with this.

^Yup! Thanks chris. Hmm, i forgot when the Hasbro release will come out?!
    Thanks again guys!
^This+1. It seems rather inept on Takaratomy's part to forgo QC issues on a hotly anticipated figure. I wonder why? Were they too eager to hype about it, only succeeding not to address any of those faults before releasing it? Oh well. Not bitching, but that should not have been the case. :(

I got mine today and spent A LOT of time messing with him. I've had some of the same problems that have been brought up in this thread and I'll sum up my thoughts with this:

Shitty alt modes, great bot mode.

Above all else I think you have to be extremely patient with this figure. I was able to muster my Rodimus into the alt modes, but it didn't feel right and a lot of the transformation was adjusted just to make things work.

I'm happy with my purchase, but I'm not as excited as I thought I'd be.

    ^ Whoa that long huh?!

Sigh.. I guess maybe hopefully Takaratomy's version would:-
    a) Reduce significantly in price. Already saw this happening after a sleuth of negative reviews posted on Amazon Japan. It was slashed by a good 6,000 yen!
    and
    b) fix all the flaws and make it an amazing figure it had the potential too within the second batch releases. :)

Then i will put him back on my radar of MP's to purchase. Im happy to maybe attempt fate and buy just one. one. hahaha...:D

Yeah, I was expecting one of them to have posted reviews on Youtube, since Peaugh has reviews of DOTM toys already.

I own a few masterpiece figures. MP-03, 04, 05, 06, 07, and 08. I've dealt with overly fiddly bits. I know they aren't all built to be handled by a 3 year old, they're adult collector items.

MP-09 is the biggest disappointment of them all.

The legs don't want to fit together perfectly to transform it into car mode. I have to squeeze them together and force the trunk lid down to hold them in place. This means the panels that end up underneath the car don't want to click into place. They're off by about 2mm even though the tabs in the legs are connected.

The knee and ankle joints are way too stiff. I know, if they were loose the thing would just fall over in robot mode. But they're simply too stiff to transform it without using brute strength to get the job done.

The way the hands fold up for car mode, the forearms don't lock into place, and it just relies on a couple of panels to fold over the hands to hide them. Because there's nothing to secure the arm, this leaves a gap between the window and the forearm in hotrod car mode, it looks terrible.

This thing will not roll for crap in car mode, period. Because so many of the parts aren't fit correctly, it just doesn't want to come together. .5mm gap here, 1mm gap there, it all adds up and screws up both of the car modes.
Rolling is just not possible. Because it doesn't go together perfectly in car mode, it just doesn't get flat enough for the bottom of the car to clear a perfectly flat surface. Most notable his head and crotch panel want to drag. Oh, and hotrod's rear wheels(rodimus' front wheels?) retract every time I set the thing down.

The transformation from hotrod car mode to rodimus prime car mode is a joke. The front half of the space winnebago just folds underneath the trailer, fine. But the way the car has to be crammed in backwards after flipping the roof around is just terrible. I can hear the plastic sliding past other plastic and it makes me cringe.

Hotrod's visor gimmick sucks. It falls down constantly. I can breathe on mine and it falls down. This could have used SOME tension at least.

The hotrod to rodimus transformation.... The face change thing is cool. But other than that the spoiler moves a little and the legs become 3mm longer. Are you kidding me? That's it? I was already suspecting this from the early photos and I was thinking that maybe they just forgot to transform something else.

This plastic sucks. I see a couple of stress marks already where some of the pins are that I never even stressed. Because of how these pins sit, the stressed plastic was already quite thin in these areas to begin with.

In robot mode if it isn't his chest wanting to flip upward as I turn the shoulder, it's his backpack falling down. These just will not clip in and stay put. Also, with the arms out forward, he's got the hollow torso issue(although not as bad) like titanium rodimus when you look at him from the side.

At least most of these problems aren't an issue for me in robot mode. But to have a transformer that doesn't fit together right for either alt mode, especially at the pricepoint(I think I paid $180 or so including shipping) is ludicrous. My other masterpiece figures are all just fine, wtf happened at Takara/Tomy? The engineering for the fit of some of these seams and joints is simply terrible. This thing has fit issues I would have expected out of a KO. The trailer is cool, along with the accessories. But if all I get for my money is a transformer that can't transform worth a crap, and some accessories, it might as well have just been a $200 actionmaster, because at least then he wouldn't want to come apart when moving joints.

Actionmasterpiece... that has a terrible ring to it. I've got most of the other MP releases, I own a number of Yamato valkyries, and I've been able to fiddle with a lot of soul of chogokin figures. Those were all expensive. The problems this figure has would not be acceptable in the pricey toy lines from the Bandai, Yamato, etc. Being my only TF purchase for the past year, and spending the entire time since it's announcement looking forward to it, I'm still in shock with disappointment. Customers shouldn't have to be re-assembling parts, tightening joints with superglue, having parts crack almost out of the box, when they pay so much for a figure. I guess now I can only hope Hasbro fixes it for their release and doesn't just use lame plain gray plastic for the pipes and wheels(please Hasbro, chrome them), because there is no way I'm giving Takara/Tomy my money again for a 2nd run of this figure.
