I am on the fence about getting Rodimus. I keep seeing great pics of him but I have some limited funds. I can afford him but that would mine no figures till almost April. Is he worth it?

well, me and a friend just had this discussion. Here are his well made points:

1- Do you like his Winebeggo (sp?) mode?
2- Will you ever have him in that mode?
3- What do you do with the trailer when he is in Rodimus mode?
4- Will you have him inside that trailer with the gun torrent?

If the answer is no to the above. Wait for the TRU one. It will be like $75 vs. the $220 (shipped) for the Takara Rodimus.

Also, let's say FP or some other company made a trailer, what is the most you think it would be? $100? If so, your still ahead of paying the $220. You are around $200 for both with shipping. Plus you could always save the money for the trailer over time.

I totally forgot about the TRU release. And I answered to no to a couple of those questions. So I will wait. I hope we get news soon about the TRU Masterpiece Rodimus.

I am 99.9% sure there will be a US release :)

Anything is possible, but I HIGHLY doubt someone would make a trailer for the MP rodimus. Even if they did, it would be way more than $100 (and probably the reason it would never get produced). Consider that the original asking price for a unlicensed add-on for a DELUXE rodimus was $82.

Isn't it a lot to assume that the only difference between Hasbro and Takara versions is going to be the trailer?

Why is this a lot to assume? I mean, what difference have we seen between any of the masterpieces?

    - Optimus: long smoke stacks vs. small smoke stacks
    - Starscream: US had G1 paint job, got rereleased in Japan anyway
    - Grimlock: Different extras

So what are you expecting different on these?

As for the trailer, the trailer for Optimus is less then $100 and has more gimicks. So I cannot see a trailer being more then $100.

You can wait for the US release, but if memory servers me correctly, wasn't it almost a year after Takara released their MP Grimlock that Hasbro finally did the same? I wouldn't count on an early US release folks.

I don't see Hasbro making something new that will never be used again for this release. I find it far more likely that he will be presented with the Matrix and guns, and having his other gimmicks highlighted -- i.e. the growing into Rodimus, the two faces, etc.

A third-party unliscenced trailer would come to far more than $100. When a deluxe-sized figure goes for $70-80 (Warbot Defender), and G3 trailer goes for toughly the same, something MP-sized is going to be expensive. Bare in mind that the cost of third-party items is always more because they don't have the massive infrastructures of a multi-national toy company like Hasbro behind them.

I want that trailer and sure it might just end up in my closet but its still an option. As with MP-04, I prefer to display those types of figures in Vehicle mode since thats what your paying 200 dollars for!

As for me, I'll probably end up buying both versions because I want to have all of this molds accessories! Is the Hasbro Targetmaster confirmed or is it just fan talk?

Want it too much to wait for an indefinite US release date/confirmation. Plus I want the full toy, not just a portion of it. I realize the US version will most likely be cheaper, but ask yourself if you can wait indefinitely for half the toy, when you could have the full version at the beginning of february.

You're gonna pay for it, yeah. But no pointless hunting, no being sold out online, no unknown wait time. You preorder the jp version he's at your door early february. Is that worth an extra ~$125 bucks? You make the call.

I believe the targetmaster at this point is just fan talk/rumor, but the TFCC magazine which confirmed rodimus for US release did mention some extras

AmiAmi had Rodimus on preorder for about $147. It's sold out for now, but like other releases, they will probably have more for sale at that price at the time of release. Even with shipping iit should be under $200.

I'm pretty sure the Takara one is coming with a daniel/spike figure. Some prototype images showed them placing a small figure into the cockpits.

Grimlock had toy stickers painted on him. You forgot Skywarp who like Starscream was very different. Skywarp also had toy painted detailing on him like Grimlock.

Rodimus may follow suit with toy painted details on him (like his stickers).

    Yes it is.

It would probably be more expensive and why would anyone bother when there is one already with the figure?! It was one thing with Optimus because he didn't come with one, but Rodimus does. Plus how could they improve on it?

Also if someone can't afford TakaraTomy's Rodimus, why would they spring for an unofficial trailer even if it's later?

I'm pretty sure you're wrong. While early art depicted such, there have been no hints or inclinations of such. We know of all his accessories at this point.

Being that Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime has been my favorite since the original cartoon movie, this was a no brainer. Had to save for the past few months, and refrained from a lot of newer stuff. Made and paid for it through TFSource. For me, it was worth it. I know I will pick up the TRU version as well.
