Man, no love for Wreck-Gar here?? The United one is far, FAR more movie/cartoon accurate than the Hasbro release. And I prefer this Perceptor with his blue eyes and clear windshield.

I can see why you guys would have issues with an out-of-character shiny Kup and too blue Blurr, though. Painting Generations Blurr in G1 cartoon colors doesn't really do the guy any favors, since he's IDW Blurr in the first place. Eh, I'll still probably pick up all four, despite the fact that I'll have all the Hasbro versions. It seems like I end up double-dipping most of the time anyway.

Blurr, Perceptor, and Wreck-Gar are all a lot nicer. Kup is about the same.

I'm not sure why people are complaining about Perceptor, he has a ton more paint than the Hasbro version (with the white trim).

I don't know if i like the perceptor mold enough to spend even for a better paint job. Already getting the e-hobby set, so i don't need the Kup. Likely will get Wreck-Gar.

    Blurr is fugly

Simply throwing paint at things doesn't necessarily make it better. Yes, the extra white trim is nice. But it's couple with the candy-coat red which doesn't really strike me as characteristic of Perceptor, and is also completely out of place on an off-road scientific survey vehicle.

And he loses the RTS version's tasteful chrome, which far outweights the trim that I can easily add on my own.

Quite frankly, outside of a very select few selections, I'm just flat-out opposed to Takara's approach to their United decoes. Sure, shiny paint is pretty, but it makes them stand out like a sore thumb amongst the greater Classics collection. And when those shiny paint apps are entirely uncharacteristic of the character they're applied to, yeah, no buy.

Those pics have been up for about at least a week now, and I think we saw them in some Japanese magazine scans ;-)

Anyway, I had placed a pre-order @Amazon.co.jp for almost all United figures back in October and now one by one I am canceling them.
Lugnut just darker shade of green?
    Kup all shiny? No thanks.
Frenzy/Rumble, two SCOUTS for that much money?
    ...

Sorry Takara, my money will go to Hasbro.

I'm gonna' have to buy one of each Perceptor and Frankenstein them together. While United does have the chrome chest, it is unfortunate that it loses the chrome on the wrists and gun. And while RTS does have the chrome wrists and gun, the yellow windows are awful, and no amount of customization can make them clear.

Couple that with the shiny red paint that would be time-consuming to apply that well and the proper Autobot badge instead of those awful rub signs, and it looks like I'll be using united as a base and adding chrome RTS wrist bits.

It's the truck mode that does it. I can't get over how awful the Hasbro deco is. Especially with the white-chalk rear windows and the sickly yellow front windows clashing like that.

I can paint small details. I can't paint match the shiny red to match for his unpainted roof and searchlight. Disregarding that the shiny paint is again inappropriate for the character and that alt-mode, and for fitting into my Classics collection.

Clear windows certainly aren't worth double price to me, and it'd take a considerable amount of effort to remove the red paint without damaging the other apps.

The clear searchlights look bad on the United version. They need a silver paint layer on the backs of them. Hasbro/Takara figured that one out on Universe/Henkei Sideswipe's headlights. Unfortunately, not before Sunstreaker though. Had to do those up myself. As they are, the yellow searchlights are more attractive to me.

The all red of the RtS version just looks so cheap to me. The red color Hasbro used looks bad, and the yellow windows only hurt the look of the figure.

The United one does appear to have chrome on his chest and panel (Hasbro's lacks chrome on the panel thing), though not on his gun and dials like the Hasbro did. So it's give or take.

Hasbro's are yellow, TakaraTomy's are blue.

Now that we can pretty much say Perceptor has silver, not white, chest trim, I'm sold. That painted up vehicle mode looks so much better and I like that darker red they used. I personally am OK with metallic paint, so that's not a big issue. Honestly, with the exception of the wrist dials, everything on the Takara one looks better.

As for the others, Kup is the one character I don't think works with shiny paint. He's supposed to be weathered. Wreck-Gar is odd. I realize the deco is more accurate, but that doesn't make it work for me so that's a pass. I personally do not like Blurr's deco, but there are aspects I can see others liking. Overall, really mixed bag.

I'm getting sick of the clip on weapons already. They Suck! Putting holes in Kup's roof to clip on his weapon, they should have just made a mount for it in his truck bed.

I gotta agree. Generally I can't afford Takara (no shame), and ultimately most of the differences aren't that major for me. But, I would like to add Rodimus (the Cyclonus 2 pack version sucks), and Perceptor looks better, maybe I can kitbash the 2. The yellow windows are NOT doing it for me. I also would like to see Tracks, I thought I had seen him already and he had a triangular flame/bot insignia. Living in the US, reprolabels has been comming through for me, paint or stickers, all is good. Triple price in this economy...I don't think so. Also, that redeco Junkion of Wreck-Gar looks good, any possibility of him being released in a single pack??

Though I agree with you the mount placement on Kup is less than stellar, I personally love the clip system. It allows for much more customizability. I would have preferred a flip out mount in the truck bed. This would have allowed it to remain much more hidden as the truck bed is rarely seen and it's placed on the bottom of the foot in robot mode.

In Japan, unlikely but I have no doubt Hasbro will do a deco for the US. It may not be until the next round of classics-styled figures after the film line runs out, but it will probably come. I really don't see HasTak springing for a remold and only use it for a very limited E-Hobby release. It just makes no financial sense. It is very expensive to add these things to a mold, though less so if planned ahead of time, and I do not think they could make their money back with the E-Hobby release. As for Tracks, he does have the G1 deco in addition to a nice metallic paint job. I personally find the flames to be much cleaner than Reprolabel's attempt to modernize it, but that's just me.

Blurr should be nice and shiny (shiney?)....anyway, kup needs to be old and worn, united for blurr, hasbro for kup...as I'm sure it'll be cool, but dull paint.

I'm not sure... I don't really like the silver paint apps on Perceptor. It makes him look too much like an ambulance or something. That said, the yellow windshield does suck hard on the RTS version. Ultimately parts swapping would be the way to go, but since I can paint a lot of details I may go that route.

Here is my RTS jazz... saved me a few bucks making these improvements. Still can't wait for U tracks though :)

Shiny Kup and Wreck-Gar? What the eff? The crotchety old man-bot does not need to look like he's hot off the assembly line! And Wreck-Gar is from a planet of junk, garbage and refuse! why would he look sparkly and new?

Honestly, even the war for Cybertron characters looked preposterous to me in the chromed paint scheme. I mean all of those characters are supposed to be in the middle of war time. A well maintained and buffed armor is hardly what I think of in war time for these fellows.

The only knew character of the line up that looks good, or really seems to fit the character, is Tracks. Although, I would totally love a re-release of SunStreaker in this paint style!!! WOOT!!! Who is with me?!
