Honestly, the head really isn't disproportionate. It looks just fine in hand, I think it's the smaller chest windows that seem to be making it appear larger than it really is.

Simply put, because it is a step backwards.

    • The Prime toys for the first movie were good, recognizable likenesses of the movie Prime with interesting transformations but were not screen accurate.
    • The Prime toys for the Revenge of the Fallen line (and subsequent lines) displayed amazing advanced in the engineering and design of the toys, resulting in a much more screen-accurate representation (though still with room for improvement).
    • This Prime figure is less screen-accurate than those for the first movie and shows less ingenuity in terms of engineering than its predecessors (using a sculpted mock-window chest, molded wheels on the thighs with obvious larger-scale wheels on the arms and legs, etc.). Unless these are representative of the changes said to have been made to Prime's movie model (which seems unlikely), they are a step backward in what has been an amazing design evolution in the toys.
Perhaps they'll have a leader-class figure that improves even further on the previous design. For the voyager-class figure, this is an obvious step backward.

Does that really need to be explained?

So, the issue isn't a big head, but a tiny chest?

The problem is, what you are describing is only one aspect of the toy: robot mode appearance. Yes, that's how a lot of us display these toys but remember that these are toys. Let me repeat that for emphasis: THESE ARE TOYS. You don't know if this toy is fun to transform, if it is fun to play with, etc.

How on Earth can you say this is a "step backwards" when you have only seen a few, random images online?

It's not even so much the tiny chest, but he's got some armor panels/heat shielding covering the outer edges of the chest windows, making them look smaller than they are. Upon closer look, the windscreen/shoulderblade bits are a little smaller than normal, and there's a bitof compression in detail on the chestplate, but just basing it on height and shoulder width his head is fine.

I'm not feeling either Prime or Megatron at this point. They could have easily inproved upon the Battle Blades Optimus. That mold was great.

I am going to assume his on screen appearance is different. That being said, my big issue still falls on his arms that look like they are unable to bend at the elbow with the fist facing up. That always irks me.

I just had a thought. We know some minor tweaks were planned on movie Prime. If by some chance they did shrink the amount of truck window visible in bot mode, it would greatly complicate using the actual truck windows in the toy's bot mode.

Not that this is necessarily what happened, but you have to admit it was an odd choice unless there really is a reason for it.

Im keeping my hopes up for a better looking Leader Prime, but I must admit this is one of the least favorite V class Primes.. Its swaying to far from the big classic chest and the legs look like bell bottoms lol.

Definiatly Space Gear. I think those are strange solar panels on the legs and arms.

Needless to say, I think every one opposed to this should hush and wait for details on Optimus in the actual movie as well as Concept art and CGI art. For all we well know, this could be an 90% accurate representation of Optimus at some point in the movie, 90% because I doubt those vehicle parts would be so obvious.

Won't be going on my shelf.

Doesn't bode well for a Leader Prime either.

Meh,i think i'm almost over the movie line.

You're right. If the movie model looks like this toy, the movie model will look like ass as well.

I think it is a very good figure for optimus if you compare it to the first ROTF voyager. Image:ROTF Voyager OptimusPrime toy.jpg - Transformers Wiki That version is even more inaccurate, the chest windows are yellow!! So maybe we will get a better version of DOTM Optimus in a year or so.
But I agree that it isn't the best figure if you compare it to HFTD voyager Prime

So, what are the chances that this will become the best movie Prime ever! once you know, people get to play with him?

Ah, thank you. Hmm, HFTD is a lil taller, but will still work. If this Prime comes with the trailer, I will probably have to purchase it based on that alone. The Prime can stay in alt mode.

I suppose there is supposed to be 1 ugly bird in the flock, happens with all the toylines.
