    Hihi :)
I need a little bit of help. A friend has requested I model the 1989 Batmobile, as an alternator.. it sounds like an interesting idea, and while I don't much care for batman, that particular batmobile is teh sex :lol

so! here's my basic concept of which parts of the car will become what -
    [IMG]

it was labeled poorly to get the idea across on msn, but pretty much the rear half of the car stays horizontal, the arms fold out from under there. everything in front of the black line folds down, upright, with the roof forming the chest tracks style, the side front parts becoming the legs (perhaps with the upper leg transforming like alt windcharger), and the jet engine thing becoming the weapon. so i guess it's kind of simplistic for an alternator, but cos of the design it'd be possible to have it transform and keep things like interiors and steering, which is why i'm calling it one.

here is the terribly chopped up version of the above pic, with the parts roughly aligned in bot mode (less than 5 minutes of photochopping here) -
    [IMG]

it sucks, but it shows the concept, kinda. i used the first 3d renders i could find on my desktop for the head/arms, hope you dont mind kris~

im imagining the feet would transform like this, and..

the arms would transform like this.

so, what do i need help with? desiign. i have a rough idea, but i suck completely with creating things on my own. the models ive done have been based on toys, cos they give me something physical to work from. if i had to create the details for this thing, it'd suck on the same level the photochopped pic does. plus im not sure how to fit the hips and get a nicely sized torso, knees and bulky coolness out of this, so if any 2d artisty people would be willing to sketch something up for me to work from, itd be great :D  im going for a sort of hulking, powerful look, and im not entirely happy with just removing the jet engine to use as a weapon.. of anyone can figure out some way to include that in transformation, that'd be cool too.. if anyone's even interested at all :redface2:

thanks for reading all this anyways, if you did :D  i tend to chatter too much at this hour of the night..

oh yeah, for the robot mode are we looking for a batman-inspired robot, based on an existing TF or is it just pretty much anything that can be come up with?

:lol  overhaul's head actually fit pretty well for something thrown together so quickly :p  it has that whole mouth behind a mask look going on!

annd uhmm whatever anyone can come up with, i guess, i want it to look hulkingly powerful and coool, and not insult the hawtness of the car :D  though a batman style head would be interesting, i think.. like starwars transformers, but batman?

If you don't put a Batman head on it, I don't want to see it.

J/K I think it's a pretty nifty idea. Curious to see the WIP and finished versions.

I saw this thread last night & had to get right to work, its just such a get idea!! I thought that the robot should look more like the "Azrael" Batman from the comics a couple of years back, what with the big pointy shoulders, no cape and all, so here it is, hope it helps.
As for transformation, I reckon it should be a bit of mix & match from existing alternators. You're right about the back of the car/head & shoulders. I reckon the thighs should sort of fold down like alt. Windcharger, & the seats & floor of the cockpit fold out like smokescreen in reverse to from the back of the torso. Maybe the bits at the sides of the cockpit could swing down & clip together to form the waist? I'm not too sure how you would engineer this, but they're just some Ideas for you...

:lol  youre removing something from being ******ed in a thread that contains my chopped together thing in the first post? :p

matt, that head is awesome ! having a front and side view will help so much with 3d-ing it :D

ger_hankey, im loving the overall shape of your design.. the way you have the chest/back of the car/feet is exactly what i had in mind, and the V shape to the torso, in particular :D  i have a few ideas on how to engineer the sides as you suggested, too, but i'm at a loss on how to do the hips ._.

I really like this idea, I personally would love someone to make an Alt out of the old 50's Batmobile which looks like this: [IMG] Which would have to use the head of the Kingdom Come Bat-Knights [IMG]
Personally, for your project you should use a version of the Batknight head, since we all know how wierd human looking heads can look like, look at the SW:TFs.

    That's a pretty good idea.
I am thinking about the same deal, but with the Tumbler from Batman Begins.
One way we could explore would be "powermaster" batmobile: A batmobile/tumbler (or else) transtector + batman as an "engine" for the robot mode.

After thinking about it, I don't think what I suggested for the hips would work. I reckon your best bet would be to copy Alt. Windchargers transformation for the hips/waist, & hide the waist under the back end of the removable hood when in car mode. I dont have a photo of the toy to show you what I'm talking about, but if someone else did it might give you a better idea?

As someone who teaches a class on Batman, and as someone who thinks you do good CG work, I think your idea is COOL.

If I were to do your model, I'd find some way to get the "engine" to be a part of the robot mode, since a "weapon" isn't usually a big part of who Batman is. I have zero skill in 3D modeling work, but perhaps the "engine" of the car would be better served as some kind of motor that goes on the robot mode backside, working as a jet pack, sitting on the backside kind of like Boba Fett's jetpack? I'm just throwing out ideas, so don't take me too seriously if you don't want to.

Also, I think it'd be pretty neat if the back "fins" folded out, like Prowl's doors, or like Binaltech Overdrive's shoulders. That way, the "fins" on the back would form a semi-bat-like shape on the robot mode shoulders. Here's the best picture I could find of what I'm talking about, except with the B89 Batmobile, there would be some bat-fins on the shoulders too.

lord of tetris, i cant really put the rocket engine piece on the back of the robot, because due to where the rear of the car will be, there's ALREADY a nice big jet exhaust right in the middle of his back that will rotate downwards in bot mode for flamey jetpack goodness :D  can i justify using the engine as a weapon by saying that although it may not be really what batman is about, it IS what TF's are about? :lol
