Probably because they're getting more and more complex. Compare HFTD Voyager Prime to toys like Cybertron Vector Prime or Crumplezone... Transformation-wise, completely different leagues.

Could this be a mish mash of DOTM Prime and Transformers Prime Optimus?

That peg hole is a line-wide gimmick. bumblebee, megatron, ironhide and optimus all have it.

Ironhide is even on the cross sell on the bottom of voyager megatron's box.

Why? That's an excellent figure with more features than the US leader version(s), and IMHO, easier to transform than the leader one.

Also I don't think what we're seeing is a voyager Prime but a Cyberverse Plus. Looks like something akin to the FAB line but updated.

Seriously what I've been thinking. This Prime is so many steps behind recent engineering that it makes the difference between RiD and Armada seem insignificant. Just because it's packaged in a box with a plastic tray doesn't mean its a mainline voyager.

I strongly think this is part of a new kid aimed mid scale subline - rather than the overarching Voyager Optimus - the reason I think this is the huge feet it's got and the slightly stylised chest area as well as the kibble around the 5th wheel coupling area.

This gives it the appearance that it's a lot simpler to Transform.

So I'd suggest that perhaps they will make DOTM Move Activators instead of FABs and the FAB idea of kid friendly "Little brother's" Transformer has been carried over to this larger line and therefore probably replaces both Powerbots & FAb or at least suplements them... unless they simply decided to make a larger size because he's a larger character and there might be something similar that is scout or Deluxe scale that represent smaller characters like Bumblebee, - Just a thought anyway.

Just because you don't want it 'Starwave' does not mean others don't that is the attitude that makes people sneer about Transformers : Crossovers and Speedstars too and I don't approve of sneeryness in general - if you don't want it that's fine but to suggest for that reason that others should be deprived of information or discussion on it annoys me.

And it's been said 1,000 times before but not all Transformers are aimed at the same people some of them are aimed at little kiddies and some at older children.

This Optimus is clearly aimed a little Younger than Battle Blades Optimus Prime - but if it means it does not take 10 minutes to Transform - I consider that a good point personally.

I'm not attacking you ; I'm just pointing out that there's a lot of things that people don't like and don't wish to spend their money on Mini-cons, Beast Machines, Animorphs, Actionmasters, Pretenders, Crossovers, RPMs, FABs, Movie Activators, Movie toys, Repaints in general and so on...

And many people might like to concentrate on certain things like Mainline deluxes or only things related to G1.

But there's just as many people who have very good reason to like the things I mentioned very much.

Speaking personally I get irked that a lot of people are so dismissive of any suggestion that any future Universe like release have to be G1 related only ; when I'd be plenty happy if they were something like a Dlx Armada Megatron or Armada Starscream Dlx. or repaints specifically themed to something other than G1 - say for example a Movie grey / (Noise Maze prototype) coloured Cybertron Soundwave. or indeed a Soundwave blue Cybertron Sideways, or a Deluxe Obsidian or a bigger better Beast Machines Tankor or Silverbolt toy.

Or I'd further more state that I'd personally get very excited by lots of new mould minicons, a return of Playskool Transformers, or that Legends releases looked back to other Universes beside Movie & G1 in future waves.

Plenty of people might have other wants and desires and I don't begrudge anyone theres and I don't sneer to much at people who wish anything that's not G would disapear - so please don't be grudge me and others our desire to embrass it rather than decry it.
    .
    --------------

    Anyway back to other things.....

I wonder if Takara Unite for the Universe releases will come out now belatedly as DOTM releases - if they had engineered the Jetfire kibble to work with other Optimus' in the mean time that would be a real boon if it worked with this new Optimus too.

That's kind of a small Voyager. Looks like it's just barely an inch taller then the WFC deluxe Prime...Maybe.
And I'm not arguing that people have seen it in a Voyager box, I'm just saying, it looks small.

I'm sorry, but if these aren't deluxes, then they've hired some dumb designers on drugs

There's got to be something to why they designed a completely new, non-accurate, Voyager mold. He must do something that we're just not seeing here.
Maybe he combines with all the guns the other figures come with.

I tend to agree. These do look like some kind of kid friendly mid-scale subline.

I'm actually relieved as I don't like doubling up my figures (one of each character). I was worried I'd have to buy another Prime for this movie but I really like ROTF Prime. So unless this one has some awesome features to it (trailer combination) I'm fine with ROTF Prime.

You're thinking along the same lines I am.

What if this Optimus is in a subline that is replacing the PowerCore Combiner 5-packs? Simple transformations, emphasis on a gimick, ideal for kids and packaged in a box! Maybe this is a "Go-Bot?"

Of course, this would show a smart marketing move on Hasbro by having the gimmick (Mechtech) extend beyond the mainline so that, no matter what figures you buy, you can build up an arsenal.
