is it just me or does the explorer repaint look like Snapdragon, And because i'm thinking that i'm getting an ApeFace vibe from the other,but not as much as the first.

 

He has a point. The only Transformers are the ones made by Hasbro and Takara/Tomy. All others simply are not Transformers. That isn't to say anything of quality, but the brand doesn't just linger around between companies. It has definitive boarders. And they are boarders that, imo, we should hold with high regard. Otherwise, anyone can slap the name on anything and the whole idea will become diluted.

I am getting really tired of these knock-offs. No matter the quality, it is still a KO. These two Fans Project figures excluded, I don't understand why they are met with high regard when the real stuff made by Hasbro and Takara is both of a better quality and a better price.

The Ultra Magnus armor is hideous. It doesn't make a good trailer, has a horrible head (that had to have its own replacement kit), and the bulk of it just folds into a blocky-looking gun. For the same price as that knock-off trailer, I bought 8 deluxe class real Transformers.

I do understand the market for these things. And some are certainly worth buying to supplement (not become) a collection of Transformers. I see that they have not yet done enough damage to any trademarks that H/T has to step in on that end. But imo, the fanfare they receive is unwarranted and really damages the integrity of the Transformers community when they are treated as gold.

I'll take my $10 Reveal the Shield Jazz and Tracks over these $50 knock offs any day.

You sound like you dont even own the City commander add on please refrain from commenting on its quality if this is the case as your arguement is un-informed.

Also the add on kit produced for city commander that provided a new head was not produced by fansproject and very few fans actually use the head or other accesories from that set on thier figure.

Also a KO is a reproduction of a figure designed by an official company not a figure that has been desighned from scratch

The only thing to object to is that the products by FP do resemble characters from the transformers to whch has/tak holds the intellectual property rights

Also "These two Fans Project figures" are not "excluded" as they are also based on characters that are the intellectual property of hasbro/takara. You have undermined your own arguement by making this point and have shown that to most people these "accidental" homages are unrecognisable.

I suspect because you really want these figures but dont want to pay the high price tag rather than bighting the bullet and investing in one to find out just how worth it it is (and it is worth it) just look at the opinions of people who have baught stuff from FP and enjoy there products

Actually, that Megatron pictured is NOT a knock-off. It is a bootleg.

The difference between a knock-off and a bootleg (though the words are often interchanged, there is one) is that a bootleg actually copies an existing toy. A knock off mimicks an existing toy or character/brand.

So the Megatron is a bootleg. The thing under it is a (well-made) knock off of Springer just based on the fact that we can all easily identify who it is meant to represent.

 

^ Protip: the meanings of words are collectively decided--they do not stem from your own fevered imagination.

Knock-off and bootleg are synonyms in the common parlance. There is no universally accepted term for stuff like original FansProject robot toys that are marketed to fans of Transformers. "Third-party" is a common descriptive term, but it is misleading and inaccurate. I'd just go with "unofficial."
