How would you move this anywhere? It's general discussions about something to do with Transformers, not a Spam thread.

Yeah, but, hip hop is pitiful, idiotic, and made by morons for morons. Anybody can take someone else's music, and then do a Dr. Suess impression over it about how cool it is to be from the ghetto, be ignorant, violent, shoot people and steal things.

And people actually pay money for it. I think record companies could make farm animal sounds a #1 hit if they pushed it on enough stupid people.

Rap=garbage; learn to WRITE A SONG or PLAY AN INSTRUMENT. Taking other people's doesn't count.

Damn dude... You clearly don't know much about the genre.
That's the crap they play on mtv and shit....
There's much more to it and alot of (old school and underground) rap about politics, wrongness in the world and that kind of stuff. Plus there are more than enough rap acts that feature excellent musicians.
I agree, fuck that bling bling attitude... But that's a discussion for another day and thread!

Clearly you don't know much about music.

And try backing up your opinion instead of just saying mine is wrong.

A 4 yr old could take a drum beat from one song, a bassline from another, and then rhyme on top of it about how cool they are, yet people that don't know much about playing music all of the sudden claim these scumbag rappers have "talent". Nice.

Or better yet, instead of wasting time defending garbage music, how's about you worry about your mods like TT or KB running around the forums cussing and acting like a$$hats. Leave the music for people who can play it. Jeez.

Tony Bacala, the founder of this site, and friend to most everyone here, is an accomplished musician beatmaker himself, and produced probably close to 200 tracks that have been posted to this site over the last 5 years.

how much music have YOU published?

yeah, a 4 year old could do that, but it wouldn't be GOOD. And your misconception that all hiphop is just samples and boasting shows how completely unaware of the genre you really are. By the way, not all country songs are about pickup trucks and dogs, as long as we're dispelling generalizations.

I was about to list off a few suggested tracks that would at least disprove your theories about hiphop, but I doubt you'd be open minded enough to follow up. Kanye, Lauryn, Big Boi and Andre 3000 have won more grammys and acclaim in the last few years than any rock band or country band or pop singer I can think of.

I realize this is all a matter of personal taste, but if you don't like it just say you don't like it, don't try to discredit the entire art form. Your hate is wasted.

Grammys and acclaim that are based off of record sales, which involves convincing impressionable people to go buy your record. Andre 3000 is great, I'll give you that, but he's not really doing hip hop at this point, and he plays instruments and writes actual SONGS. Big Boi is Andre's b!tch and just riding off the Outkast name at this point.

"Musician beatmaker"? wtf is that supposed to be? Look, I play drums. You know, "making beats", but out of nothing. I just sit down and create the beats with my mind and body from nothing. Beatmaker? Is that like with a casio keyboard or some drum program, or is it editing other drumbeats together with a pc? Cute.

Here's my current band, no we aren't pretty, and this is just a temporary myspace site while we are redoing our site for the 2nd CD we just released, Twilight Children. No sampling, "beatmaking", digital instruments, stolen tracks, covers, or editing programs are involved. Please check out all 4 songs, they are different from one another and generally give a good feel for the MUSIC.:

without listening to your music I will say it SUCKS because I am sure I wont like it
:thumb  all BAND music SUCKS because of your songs :thumb

If you are going to make a sweeping generalization of something you dont like, WHY should anybody listen to your stuff?

Rap music in general is in a very pitiful state, but what you hear on BET/MTV radio etc isnt the be ll/end all

There is more to rap than "laffy taffy" and "shine on" but I doubt you really have any interest, other than to belittle it.

And guess what...there are people out there that would call you a "moron" for collecting kids toys.

Grammys aren't based off record sales. they're voted on by an academy consisting of other musicians. granted, a lot of those musicians probably buy those records too, but they're awarded based on the opinions of other professional musicians.

ok, so maybe the 90s saw a lot of sampling 70s and 80s hits. maybe rappers like Jay-Z objectify women to an insulting degree. But just like theres crap rock bands in the mainstream, if you check the hiphop underground you're gonna see some completely different stuff. Common, Talib Kweli, The Roots... they're writing songs. they're not just shouting about hustling and big houses and crap.

About your first comment, about not even listening to the songs, yet declaring it sucks...don't be an idiot. No one thinks your little comment is funny, nor does it even make sense. I make a sweeping generalization because I was born in 1975 and have been around since the creation and commercialization of rap and witnessed it's many forms. Of course there are exceptions to every rule, like De La Soul or Tribe called Quest, but even YOU say rap is in a pitiful state. That is a generalization, and the majority of rap I've heard is ridiculous BS. Notice the fans of rap arern't exactly the musicians of the world.

And for your other little snippet, this one:
"And guess what...there are people out there that would call you a "moron" for collecting kids toys."

True, but can they even remotely articulate why they think it's moronic? Give me detailed reasons with logic and sense involved? No; it would just be "toys are for babies" or "grow up, toys are for kids" or some other such drivel. And opinions like that cannot be respected.

Honestly, the next time you sit down to listen to some rap, just try to seperate the tracks in your head, actually LISTEN to what is on the recording, the actual sounds and notes, etc. Try to pick out what they are actually doing, and I think you may start to agree with me; that it's all some and mirrors, a trick art form that relies on deception and the ignorance of it's audience to drive sales.

The Roots are pretty damn good, I'll give you that. Like I said, there are exceptions to every rule. But you have to admit 85% of rap is inane, insulting, recycled, idiotic, base, garbage that is hacked together by complete amatuers and cannot stand up to a real band unless they are in a studio, with a dj, playing other people's "beats".

Yeah, and Britney Spears, the Dixie Chicks, and Justin Timberlake have all won Grammys as well. Them having won Grammys don't make them any less worthless to me.

Now, you've listed examples of some decent hip hop groups. That doesn't change my opinion that the vast majority of hip hop is hack work. The same goes for country music.

You may see something worthwhile in the work of hip hop artists, but I don't. It's just my opinion, though.

I doubt many people around here think you are funny either....at any rate I know where rap is and I say its in a pitiful state because songs like "lemme see yo grille" and "laffy taffy" are a IMO a travesty.....but guess who buys 90% of rap music these days...teenage white kids....I doubt you could find five black guys over the age of 25 that like what passes for "rap" these days.

I think "rappers" like 50 cent, lil jon, ying yang twins, mike jones,nelly....etc are absloute crap :redface2:  But there are all sorts of rappers that get no airplay because they arent talking about "bling,women,sex,etc..."some have been mentioned above me.
Mainstream rap is terrible would have been a more acceptable comment. you would not like being called a moron for liking kids toys any more than someone else for liking rap music. Your reasoning is subjective and debatable.

I am sure many people that dont collect could give you reasons why they think collecting toys is "childish" and "moronic" and articulate them quite well. Some of them could possibly be valid. The way you throw around terms like "idiot" and "moron" because someone like something you dont, I doubt you would come down off your pedastel and acknowledge any of them.

Untrue. All I ask is that people back up their opinions with logic and reason. If you can express something in a concise, logical manner, I will listen to any person. In fact, I'd like to hear someone try to make the case, and then allow for my rebuttal. I'd welcome it.

My main beef with rap, I suppose, lies moreso in the base culture that surrounds it. I see it influencing people, making them think it's cool to start fights in public, or carry a gun, or just talk shit. It's just gross, and I'm really over society trying to convince me being a thug is somehow cool.

DJs are only editors. Taking pre existing tracks, and blending them, or "remixing" (ooo I hate that term) them is only editing. It's like taking the bun from Wendy's, the meat from Burger King, and cheese from McDonald's and then saying "look, I cooked this burger." Or like taking scenes from 3 movies, putting them together, and then giving it dialogue from another. You just edited a film, you aren't a director or writer. An editor. That's a DJ in my definition. It's fun and all to use garage band to and drag and drop tracks, edit some scratch tracks, but again, just editing pre existing tracks.

Ok, let me demonstrate how simple it is to make a nursery rhyme...I mean rap.

My name is Sentinel, I like good music
When I hear rap, it makes me wanna lose it
I like Transformers, and I bettah warn ya
Shoot me and I'll dodge it
Cause I like to use logic
ok, then the DJ inserts stolen/copied drum fill, and there's some clicky whistle sounds, and then I talk about partying and stuff, and being all tough and rich and stuff. That's the summary, but you have to buy the record if you want my straight dope. It's just $17.99.

    See, I know the rap.

Man, fuck you rap haters. How can you make a comment about something you do not truly comprehend? I'm sure the only rap you know is like MTV and BET crap.
