I was thinking the same thing as well, however I'm still getting this guy!

 

Its ok looking , i dont think its anything special though. That front end still looks so off to me, it just loos out of place. And those flames on the side of the trailer look weird. Not something i'll buy though.

 

It seems a bit off but I am still picking it up.

 

I think he looks awesome! Love the way the flame colouring is painted into the molded detail. All in a great boost to the classics Rod, and I think will sit great next to the Retro/future MP Rod with its chunky ultramodern look. His eyes need to be blue though...

 

Yea, this isn't really doing it for me either. When City Commander came out, that thing hit me like a slap in the face and I knew I had to own it. The more and more I find out about the Rodimus kit, the less and less I want it. Canceled my pre-order. Def still grabbing a few Sidearms though.

 

God that face is derpy as hell. :C

    Friggin' awesome! I just need to save up some scratch/sell some TF's to get this add-on set. I'm glad as Rodimus Prime he's the same size as voyager prime, he'll be able to go toe-to-toe with my classics Megatron. Plus as I grew up more with the post movie toys, I like those characters a bit more.

LOL. Maybe whenever you become a prime, you get Roller. Sorta like it re-forms itself out of whatever to fit the next prime?

I'm digging this a lot more than I thought I would, and I actually think I like it better than the City Commander set. There's no doubt that CC looks great in bot mode, but the lack of shoulder missiles and the giant block of an alt mode always left a lot to be desired imo. This, however, looks a little more streamlined in both modes - and I love the blocky look of it. I'm officially convinced now and will definitely be pre-ordering it.

 

It seems the members who dislike it enough to not get it have one major point aside from price:

It does not look like G1 Rodimus Prime.


I respect that. But I would dare hope FP doesn't limit their design freedom choices to only G1 drawings. If they take a concept and modernize while keeping homages, I think that's something very cool and respectable.

I personally am buying the FP rodimus because

1. I support FP
2. I don't care about Gee-Won looks similarities
3. I really enjoy and appreciate their level of design, attention to details, and engineering in their previous projects.

 

Hey, that looks a lot better. These color shots have made me decide to hang on to my pre-order.

This is a reason why half of me would actually prefer Fansproject to pursue their own original ideas. They are obviously talented designers, and I'd love to see what they could imagine without the constraint of pre-existing designs.

In other words: Glacialbots, gimme gimme!

My questions for them will always be:
Why make a cube into a sphere?
Why don't they making it close to G1?
Classic Rodimus has edges and not the curves like the G1 counterpart.
The parts are fitting on a Classics figure that looks different from the G1. Expanding on the differences with some resemblance of the old toy will be a better choice than dressing it up to make it G1. Plus you have more imagination space for this "new toy / character" when it is in front of you.

 

I think that FP has definately established a style of their own. i think that purchasing their figures and add-ons in the future is going to fall more heavily on whether people enjoy the FP aesthetics or not.

In my opinion none of the figures outside of the Bruticus kit have had heads that have had more than a passing resemblence to their respective characters. I like FP's style though so it doesn't bother me and it actually makes me like it more because it's almost like an artist signature on each piece. You can definately tell an FP product from anybody else.

 

my god i love this figure. this is my first fansproject figure and i am loving what i am seeing. now i just need to get my city commander (and eventually shadow and dia) too.
