Well.... Now that we'll have a deluxe Bumblebee, Jazz, Grimlock, and Starscream, how about some kick-ass 3rd party Pretender shells??
He's a Fantastic mould but the poor guy does seem to suffer from Missing paint syndrome. Now if we guess that a Porsche GT3 was a part inspiration for the vehicle then Black wheelhubs are not wrong as such ; but some red trim would have looked funky but like the little silver rims Movie Mudflap has only red. His back window isn't painted at all, and the bit I find most disapointing is that they have painted half his leg - this is parts due to the way his mould is blocked out but really he needs either his legs to be all white or all black or he needs some of his leg partially painted black & white respectively. I don't expect Hasbro to paint his tail pipes as they hardly ever bother. It's just a bit odd that some toys get lots of paint and others seem to get a lot less, or what the do have is oddly placed. But then missing paint was also a problem with Legends Jazz who has no paint on his side windows. Do people think he's close enough to Legends Jazz ? - I think I'd quite like a speedstars Jazz a bit like this it might be fun to have one with similar speakers on the sides. I wonder if he's deliberately small so they can give a Ricochet repaint a Targetmaster ?
technically Jazz in the cartoon didn't have a shoulder canon, I know the toy did, but I never display my figures unless they are mostly toon looking, like I don't have the shuolder canons up on Prowl, but Bluestreak and Smokscreen have theirs up, same with the original toys.....although for whatever reason, Mirage, Sideswipe & Red Alert never came with a shoulder canon either, which was stupid I think, I mean they put a damn wave rider in with Bumblebee and CJ, but couldn't give CJ a new head or give Mirage a missle launcher??????
As far as Jazz's scowl goes... look at the knuckleheads he has had to put up with. I don't remember seeing the guy smile in any of the IDW series. That's the look of, "I told you to go do something and I can clearly see that was a mistake and now I have to do it instead." This line has not disappointed me since it started.
Shoving it in people's faces screaming "DID YOU BETRAY THE LAAWGH?!"? Because that's what I'm gonna be doing.
Looking awesome so far. Hope he dosn't end up like Classics 2.0 Prowl though, with the lousy paint and all.
Exactly! I don't think that ALL Autobots need to have friendly smiles, but Bumblebee was great that way, and even as a Cliffjumper, it works to capture some of his devil-may-care eagerness. Jazz and Sideswipe should have small smirks. FansProject got it right with their Swindle. I'm pretty cool with "dull surprise" on everyone else though, for the most part. Looking back over the Classics(etc) line, I have mixed feelings. Mirage is a fantastic figure, but somehow misses out on some of that G1-accurate appeal. Sunstreaker and Sideswipe are alright, but not quite right (though I'd say the Tracks mold is not bad for Sunstreaker, if you want to go oldschool. Ironhide and Ratchet are interesting, but a pretty compromised figure. Bumblebee and Hound are sheer love. Grimlock I barely even consider to be part of the line! Looking at Jazz, Tracks, Wheeljack, etc... I think we're getting some of the nicest classics yet! zmog
Yeah, that's my gripe about the line - missing weapons that some of the characters had in their animation form. The omissions of the shoulder cannons are more glaring for Sideswipe and Mirage for me! LOL!
That frown doesn't appeal to me, otherwise his head is great. Alt mode does look to be severely lacking in the paint apps department. I'm not sold on this until I see the United version.
I don't know I kinda dig the frown looks like he did when he practicly kicked the shit out of all the Predecons, he is badass I'll be buying one.
being fair i think considering he has been fighting a war for millions of years the frown seems more appropriate. i love his head scult
Yeah, that excuse could certainly be used to get around it, or you could argue that this Jazz is the Samuel L. Jackson badass special ops version. However, all of that still rings a bit false. Jazz has always been the type to never let the pressure get to him, to take it smooth, to enjoy the ride. He's all style and all cool. There are only a few G1 characters where a smile or hint of a smirk would be appropriate... but Jazz is definitely one of them. And the thing with this headsculpt is that it isn't even a standard neutral expression of dull surprise. He actually looks like he's SCOWLING, which means someone went out of their way to sculpt him as a sourpuss, and that feels like a mistake. Which is not to say I won't buy this figure twice, maybe 3 times! It's still the best incarnation of Jazz we've gotten... well... ever. zmog
Yeah I meant dreamwave. I dunno what made me think dreamworks. He looks alot like he did in the dreamwave comics
