#@%! I didn't know he was based on Straxus from the original Marvel comics! I'm going to pick him up! He was a pretty memorable character in the UK comics also.

    Darkmount = win!!

This opinion piece doesn't really deserve its own thread, but, here goes anyway! I picked up DARKMOUNT last night and got around to opening him this morning. This figure is teh shiz!!! He's got nice articulation, and though his colors remind me more of Prime, or an Autobot, than a Decepticon, that doesn't kill it for me. The small interchangeable weapons are nice, and his 'pick axe' is a nod to Straxxus, I think it was, from the Marvel Comics. (I'm sure a comic fan will correct me if I'm wrong! ) Anyway, I know there's a repaint coming, and even though I don't get into repaints too much, I might get this one, because I really like the mold! Is the 'M17' an homage to a 'Machine Robo' figure number? Like TANK? Anyone know? OK, so thanks for reading, and in my opinion, YOU NEED TO BUY THIS FIGURE!! :rock

    My thoughts exactly!

The entire figure is a nod to Straxus... it IS Straxus, they just couldn't call him that.

Straxus first appeared in a Marvel comic serial-numbered 17.

Nearly bought him today but the only 2 on the shelf had dust in the paint on his chest right near the logo and it would be so obvious in robot mode - I'll have to pass and hope for a restock. or get him next time I make the long drag of a Journey to Toys R Us.

Decided to check out my local Target today, and lo and behold they actually had Darkmount in stock! Upon getting my find of the day home, I instantly discovered he was one of the best Deluxes of recent times.

The weakest point of the figure has to be the intermediate "battle station" mode, but it's not one of the advertised features and nothing on the toy was compromised to get the third mode, so it is a neat little bonus rather than a useless waste of engineering.

Everything else about the toy rocks. The three removeable attachment weapons allow for alot of customizeability (the smoke grenade launcher looks pretty good on the leg in my opinion) and the pick axe is just win beyond words. This is one of the must-have molds, and there's a choice between Darkmount/Straxus or the upcoming Skullgrin (with different head), but I personally prefer Straxus because the mold was designed for him.

Go back a page or so and try my version of the gun platform mode. At the very least it's something to kill a few minutes. :)

Man, I don't know if it's just because I bought this guy with WFC Bumblebee (who in reality isn't Terrible), or if my expectations are low but Darkmount is so awesome, easily one of my favorite, if not my favorite 2010 deluxe figure.

His transformation can be a little finicky but the sheer posability and character that went into this mold is staggering. The simplistic color scheme give him a very welcome retro feel that doesn't feel out of place, its just quirky while at the same time, evil. I think he stands perfectly proportioned as a deluxe, and do not regret paying full retail for him in the slightest.

Also, the clip on weapons system gets another Killer App here.

I kept hesitating him until today, when TRU had Deluxes on sale, so he ended up being $7.50, a price I couldn't pass on.

He was OK at first, then I discovered the heel spurs   and he went from an 8 to an 11 out of 10. :thumbs2:

Personally I'm not sold on the clip system, but fortunately it's just a bonus. Straxus is awesome, plus he is truly crazy articulated; ball jointed wrists! I'm thinking that my next display rotation will have a Straxus' crew (Ramjet, Thrust, Dirge, Bombshell, Kickback, Shrapnel) shelf. Perhaps even a few small pitiful Autobots to ask for mercy.

Purchased him today. A good figure a little finicky. The left leg is a tad floppy/loose. Overall rather nice.

Got this guy with Megs. He's really cool, complex, but his robot mode has a a few kinda loose joints. His transformation is kinda a pain, but both modes are great. I find his arm articulation finicky, but if it weren't I don't think he could hold his pick in both hands, so it's cool.

One question though, why the hell is he covered with the triforce?

Obviously Straxus took it from Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf. Or he's a LoZ fan. Take your pick.

    One on his axe...
    Two on his chest...
and another two on his back kibble.

    BUH-BUH-WHAAAAAAA?
    Five of the infamous TRI-force?
To be honest though, the ones on his chest and the ones on his axe aren't exactly triforces, because one of the triangles is actually a diamond. So... Bi-force?

Okay... so the bi-force is accurate to the original comic... but then it begs the question... WHY did the Original have it?
    Also...
I'm loving how accurate Straxus is. They did an excellent job.

I grabbed this guy at Target recently to bolster my Decepticon ranks along with Gen. Dirge and HFTD Terradive. He's a bit fiddly, but he's cool. I actually like the "turret" mode, because of what it really is: an approximation of his original flying cannon mode.
