Personally I'm hoping that it is actually: Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, versus the version with the The at the beginnning. Rolls off the tongue better, and doesn't sound as dorky.

I'm still not buying it, that title just does not appeal at all... the dark of the moon? Do they mean an eclipse type of deal?

The moon is actually a white rock, there is no dark side to it... err. Why not something like TF3.. simple. Whatever, time will tell.

i know it'll probably make sense once i see it on the big screen, but it still doesn't sound right

plus i get the whole multiple website registration bit cause almost every film does it, but they really should have went with the one that says "Transformers: The Darkside of the Moon" that takes you to Bay's website instead

Lord....how many times does it need explaining. Read the freaking title dude. It's Dark of the Moon. It is NOT Dark SIDE of the Moon. It's not referencing the dark side of the moon at all. That is not what it means.

Dark of the Moon has an entirely separate meaning and does not have anything whatsoever to do with the dark side of the moon. It's the last three days of the lunar cycle, when the moon never makes it above the horizon and therefor you can't see it. In astrology it's associated with being right before a period of renewal, so it's like the last bit of darkness before you get to the light.

It also plays hell with the US military, because when there is zero moon illumination our night vision devices can't gather enough light to be effective....which eliminates one of our major advantages, the ability to operate in the dark.

yes, its is white rock... but there's a whole side that NEVER gets light... hence its in dark... hence its the dark side of the moon... and having nothing to do with the title because its DARK OF THE MOON... not dark SIDE...

does that mean Megatron is a werewolf?

see the post above by Moy? pretty sure that's what EMTRatchet was responding to... that he (Moy) stated there's not a DARK SIDE of the moon... not really about the movie title at all... as that's been explained to death and no one seems to actually read posts before responding...

Pffttt...reading. What an overrated concept. It's easier to just rage for no reason.
    ;)

Edit: I present the post just above yours as 'Exhibit A'.

While it's kind of strange for a TF title, I've always loved the phrase. I'm kinda o_0 at all the people thinking it's engrish or awkward. It's always sounded poetic to me.

Have that many people not heard of it before? Or is it colloquial?

Just a couple of paragrahs from: Dark of the Moon

Cycles and rhythms effect everything, and the lunar rhythm is no exception -- beginning a cycle of creation (the new moon), followed by growth (to full moon), and a diminution (the waning moon), and finally death (the three moonless nights, i.e., the dark moon).

George [2] notes that: “The earliest peoples understood that the power of life lay in the darkness of the moon.” “The purpose of the dark phase of any cycle is that of transition between the death of the old and the birth of the new. The dark time is a time of retreat, of healing, and of dreaming of the future.” I.e. the fallow times preceding outbursts of creativity and growth.

On the whole, I think we wanted a serious, intense movie for TF3. If they do indeed use this title TF3: DOTM..and the meaning is somewhat based on the above meaning and beliefs then we could be in for one heck of a ride! :popcorn  I'm happy to wait and see what transpires.
