what 3rd party TF toys did you buy & what were the reasons for buying them?

Okay I'll start.

Thus far I have only bought 5 3rd party TF toys.

(1) Rifle extensions kit for MP Megatron.
WHY? Because MP Megatron feels naked without the rifle gun extensions. because in the cartoon,megatron transforms into a gun with rifle extensions on him. Anyways I kinda feel for the toy,that taking away MP Megatron's rifle extensions is like taking away MP Convoy's trailer. the 1984 faction leaders feel in-complete without there accessories.

(2) repro long smoke stacks for Hasbro's 20th/25th optimus prime. I bought about 6 sets from 2 different guys. the style is different from the 2 guys.
WHY? because I hate it when hasbro files stuff down for USA safety laws.
anyways the MP Prime toy looks awful with cut down smoke stacks in both modes. the shorter smoke stacks make the figure look more fat & square. while the longer smoke stacks make the toy seem less fat & less square.

(3) MP Starscream king's crown+cape+shoulder pads.
WHY? as a homage to the 1986 TF movie scene when starscream put on all that stuff when he became leader. also the MP Starscream & the classics 1.0 starscream are the best representations of the 1986 starscream character. for such a awesome figure,it needed all the extra accessories. to make it more special.

(4) Bruticus swindle+blastoff+combiner accessories.
WHY? Because hasbro/takara will never make correct sizes & designs when they do all those updated homages for swindle & blastoff. I got both of them because they are the best swindle & blastoff updated homages molds to date. that have the combiner feature.

(5) Trailer/armor for classics 1.0 Ultra magnus.
WHY? Because thus far hasbro/takara hasn't created a decent updated homage 1986 ultra magnus toy. that does what the 1986 toy did. which has a robot that combines with the trailer for a super robot mode.

WHAT DO I see myself buying in the future from the 3rd party companies that make TF toys?

the smaller scale MP megatron. currently on my high priority list. I need a proper scale MP Megatron. this 3rd party igear megatron will be 9 inches tall which is in perfect scale. the current 14 inch scale is way out of scale with other TF toys on display shelves. the 9 inch version should blend in perfectly with leader sized & ultra sized TF toys on display shelves.

smaller scale MP Megatron rifle extensions. doubt it'll get made. as it'll be a 3rd party accessory for a 3rd party toy. might not be enough interest by fans to warrant making it.

igear ultra magnus trailer for the smaller scale MP Figure. since I have faith leader I might get the powered convoy recolored trailer/armor. maybe i'll just decide against it,who knows,not on top priority list. on maybe list. depending on how much spare cash I have at the time. depending what the trailer/armor looks like.

 

I thought you only bought retail figures off the shelf.

 

PLEASE fix the spelling of rifle in your post. (There are other issues but that one made me cringe for some reason.)

I have a few things on preorder from bbts. Mainly sidearm because he really looks to be a very nice figure.

 

1 - City Commander - because he looked like an awesome figure to have. I think that was my first 3rd party toy, and I was NOT disappointed.

2 - City Commander Missile Racks/Gun - It was on the one touch that FP UM was missing. Best $12 I ever spent.

3 - MP Starscream/Skywarp Coronation Set - I HAD to have the crown. I was hoping for a Thundercracker Coronation Set as well...

4 - FP Bruticus - Man. When I saw the upgrades, I knew they would be a must have. I won't be able to tinker with them for another few weeks, but no way I was taking a chance on missing the boat on this one.

5 - MP Megatron Extensions - To make him look even MORE G1. Too bad the barrel extension is too heavy for the plastic barrel and I don't feel comfortable too much with it on, as I'm afraid the weight will make it snap off. While it makes him look completely G1, I've only used it once because of that fact. I'm tempted to sell it off, but I'm going to keep it

6 - MP Prime extended smokestacks - Because it makes Prime look a bit better than he already does

Faith Leader 01
(Not) Thrust iGear PP01A
Protector (perhaps, I'll see how it ends up looking first). Though I know if I change my mind, good luck hunting it down afterwards

1..everything by fansproject...the only thing im missing from them is cliffjumpers upgrade...fansproject work is top notch..they will get my business everytime(already preorder the protector/shadow sythe sets w three sidearms)..if they make it i will buy...period..i like thier stuff so much that i buy at least 2 of each of everything..

2..TFC-003 - Screamer's Coronation Crown & Cape Set /skywarp set...thought they looked cool so i got em

3..TAW-01S TAW God Sword/magnus/prime/nemesis versions. again i thought they were bad ass even if hella over priced

I've lost track but it's a large number (City & Shadow Commander, Knight Morpher, Warbot Defender/Springer, Unicron.com Animated & Golden Discs, Battle & Shadow Rollar, etc.).

I've bought them because I liked them enough to buy them. No different than any officially licensed toy I've picked up.

 

So far, Fansproject City Commander (2nd version, with missiles) and Fansproject Crossfire 02 sets. The first one because I wanted a good representation of G1 Ultra Magnus that wasn't tiny (like the Titanium 6" one), the second because it's a perfect reimagining of G1 Bruticus, which we're not going to get from HasTak.

Still on my list: G3 trailer, Warbot Defender, Sidearm, MP-05 extensions, Gear of War weapons pack, the recent Frenzy/Rumble pack, AND WILL SOMEONE FINALLY MAKE A G1 HEAD AND HANDS FOR TFTM07 RESCUE RATCHET?

The reason:

I'll never forgive myself IF I were to call that Classics White Prime Repaint as "Magnus" so that sparked off the purchase. Enough said.  

Shadow Commander followed soon after because he wields a bad a#* sword! Something that is prominent in Black Convoy/Nemesis Prime.

DIA Commander was because...Frankly, I dunno.  
I started regretting this the minute I realised that a Blue Prime Repaint ain't gonna happen.  

Reissued City Commander as he had the missiles + rifle add ons. I just have to get one sealed for keep sake.  

 

hell ya if hasbum aint gonna make it and someone comes along and fills the market for a toy i like and its a desent quality im will not think twice bout buying it..step ur game up hasbum and u would get my money as well..these 3rd party toy companys fills in the gaps that hasbro wont...and i for one am happy they do...

Why do you keep starting threads like this, and what are your reasons for doing so?

 

i bought all fansproject stuff (except cliffjumper kit and g3 trailer) because there's a void in my heart that i need to fill...

 

 

i just feel they could do a hell of alot more w/ the transformers line and it just makes me angry to see that in the end they are only in it for the money(yeah i still buy thier stuff not cuz im a fan of hasbro but i love transformers)...i mean how many repaints of a fig can they do...i know they got to make money..but how bout doing justice to the line that pretty much put them on the map....i respect that they are a company i just wish they were a little more fan oriented...

 

At the risk of starting another Hasbro vs. 3rd party debate (which this entire thread will inevitably spiral spiral down, thanks to comments like the above):

Wow, man. "Hasbum?" If it wasn't FOR "Hasbum", you wouldn't have any of those nitfy FansProject 3rd party accessories to use it with. HasBRO markets to kids. We're a corner market as adult collectors. I believe they work hard to bring us what they bring us, and they throws us a HELL of a lot of bones as collectors, with all the G1 homages and new Generations toys we are getting. We get SO MUCH G1 thrown at is, it is crazy. Hasbro is also limited by child safety laws, so many of the little bits and pieces that come out with these 3rd party products would not be able to be brought onto the market ANYWAY.

They do repaints to cover the cost of making the mold. Go back and ready any of the 100 debate threads on this very subject.

Wait, when did Transformers toy sales last "fall hard"? Also, do you realise what percentage of total sales are estimated to be made to fans? It's very low.

 

i bought FP superion add on, magnus CC set and bruticus xfire set. i am very pleased with all of them because they greatly enhanced the esthetics of the figures and make it more G1 accurate.

i don't want to turn this into a hasbro bashing thread, i think they have done a great job with the recent releases.
