Just Beast Wars, I gave most of them away to my nephews. Thank goodness I kept a few, Takara Metals Megatron is expensive now
If I had I probably would have just started up again from Classics, if something were to happen to my G1 I couldn't justify the expense in replacing them.
No, but I lost a few Armada figures (way back in 2003, and only in 2007 did I become obsessive about TF and buy them like mad).
Interesting thread. I'm having thoughts and double-thoughts and even triple-thoughts about my collection. I don't know if I want to keep, stop buying, just buy what's currently pending, or just sell the entire lot. It's a tough decision cause once their gone, their gone. And I don't think I want to struggle through another collection build a year later. Plus, If I do sell, I'm not sure if I want to sell every single piece as two of my figures are utterly rare and may never see again in my life time.
I'm here. Only its because we might need the few extra dollars. Its tough because collecting transformers is such a huge part of me.
At it's height, my collection was around 1450. Then I started selling. I'd sell and rebuy figures a few times over. At one point, I had my collection down to 10 figures. TEN. Then I started wanting to collect again and it got up somewhere around 200-300... Now, I think there's maybe 30ish. When I get the few things I really want that are out there and the few new things coming down the pipeline, I'm thinking my collection will top-off at 50-75. Though if it gets close to 75 I may try to cull it back down to no more than 50. I still feel this urge to go back and build it all up again, but there's so many reasons I keep resisting it. I have my updated/modern collection of the 86 movie cast and I want to put together a MP collection, but other than that it's a handful of misc figures. My complete Botcon collection is long gone, my complete Victory Autobot collection... ugh. Gotta stop dwelling. Hahah
Technically I did have to start over as my parents threw away all my toys when I was seven, so I have had to start over many years later (though I hid my collection from my parents when I started back up for awhile). I'd never sell my collection. I'm not one of those 'Keep it sealed' collectors. I keep all my figures out of the box and posed on the shelves (as many as fit) and every now and then I'll rearrange them to my liking, taking out new figures and trying new posing combinations (feeble attempt at rationalizing the fact that I still like to play with them, despite being 26.) The only time I'll sell them is if I can't do anything with them anymore. Such as if I inherit a disease that destroys my motor control and I physically cannot transform them anymore or if I die, then I will sell them.
Lost my entire 750+ figure collection last year, all I had left was Armada Megatron, Jetfire, and the cab part of Optimus. I had decided to give it up until the ROTF figures started hitting shelves and the temptation was to much. Been working on rebuilding ever since, re-buying my favorites, picking up figures I never had, and only buying figures I really want instead of being a completist. It sucks to know I'll probably never have all the Transformers I used to, but it sure is a great time to be collecting with all the new stuff on the deck.
I had a nice collection of 200+ figures and I ended up having to sell all of them except a few favorites in the summer of 2000. It broke my heart, but business wasn't good, I needed the money to pay student loan payments. But, in the years that followed I got everything back that I lost in one form or another. I did hold on to my G2 Prime, my Omega Supreme, and a few scraps of a destroyed Mr Hard Hat, though.
I've been working on getting rid of my Armada/Energon/Cybertron collection save for a few figures and only keeping G1, BW, MP, Alt/Bt, Anime, and Classics/Universe line. In the future I just want to keep around 200 figs and no more, but it'll be tough to sort out the ones I want keeping around. Not to mention the non-TF toys that's been building up over the years. If I can get rid of those first then there'll be much more room for the TFs.
My parents gave away (they didn't even SELL them) my childhood toys to the neighbor kids across the street about three months before I went hardcore into collecting . They asked, they double asked, and I said, "Just not the ones in my room" which were mostly Movie 1 figs. Had a butt load of Beast Wars that I'm now rebuying, but a good mix of interesting AEC figures and an odd G2 chap or two.
My mother made me throw away all my figures (not just TFs, almost every toy I had) when I was younger because I wasn't doing my schoolwork...and I was lying......and this was the millionth time I've done it. Yeah, I deserved it, but something good came out of it; I kept my Unicron and Lightspeed Rail Rescue Megazord.
i sold everything 5 years ago...got into a huge robotech collection spry...then got tired of it...and then started collecting transformers again about in 2006 beginning of....and now i am back up to around 400 + transformers.
LOL due to the fact I'm jobless. I'm actully on the down slide on my collection right now. I'm working my way through my MOSC stuff, and I'm debating on liquidating my entire alt and BT collection
when i was younger my mom told me (13 yrs ago) to either sell them or she was throwing them out, sold my 300 fig collection for $50 to a comic book shop....
if i sell my collection, then that's it for me with collecting tfs. no more rebuilding. no more re-collecting. i dont like that idea. tfs are works of art for me, not just mere toys. i do need to start some business so i need at least a half year break from tfs to put the money elsewhere. but i'd rather take a break than quit altogether.
No,once I sell TF stuff,I never look back. trying to re- buy all that stuff,would be far too exspensive. and far too compulsive behavior obsessive. I got rid of about 40% of my TF collection & am quite proud. the stuff I got rid off I never liked or out grew. some of them I bought was out of toy completist behavior. I don't buy TF toys to hoarde them. I buy them to enjoy them. It was wrong & crazy for me to buy TF toys I hate. just to complete years worth of TF toy lines. getting rid of all this stuff,sort of cured me of completist sickness,. these days I buy what I like & what I hate I leave on the shelf/peg for the next customer.
