To those that want a Voyager Grimlock.... Let's get the others first before another Grimlock. Sludge has had the least love over the years, mostly because he's a dinosaur that doesn't actually exist. He had a "Dinobots" toy from Wal-Mart, but that's it and nothing at all a similar dinosaur. Snarl had Action Master, G2, and Dinobots. Swoop had Dinobots, Energon, and Animated. Slag had G2, Dinobots (though they couldn't use the name, we know who it is), and Animated.
I'm happy with TFA Snarl (Slag) and Swoop. I'll go with Sludge. He was a favourite as a kid. Also, let's not forget that the hints we have about Dinobots turning up are based on the '86 movie. And one of the Dinobots didn't show up that day.
Snarl for some reason has always been my favorite dinobot so I'd went for him. But Sludge and Slag would be tied for second. Either way atleast one new dinobto would be awesome!
What? 1. None of the Dinobots are accurate to actual dinosaurs or pterosaurs. 2. However, Sludge is a perfectly adequate generalized sauropod. He looks more like a real animal than Grimlock, Swoop, or Snarl do.
Grimlock was a T-Rex, Slag a Triceratops, Snarl a Stegasaurus, Swoop a Pteranodon. Sludge was a Brontosaurus, but it was later discovered they never existed...
I vote Sludge, because sauropods are for the win. I would also love to see a new mold for Snarl. While I would love to get a classics version of all of them, at least Animated Slag/Snarl and Swoop are relatively close. Grimlock, while I would prefer to get a new voyager, at least has both a Classics version and MP version to choose from (even Animated Grimlock could be seen as being a decent substitute). The other two, however, really need an updated version. Even if Sludge's alt mode is a dinosaur that never existed, he could easily be made into Apatosaurus/Brachiosaurus/Diplodocus/etc. and not loss the basis of his alt mode.
uhhhh......didn't you guys see Jurassic Park? Brontosaurus' STILL exist. Who do you think played the Brontosaurus in Jurassic Park? James Woods? duh (some people).
Honestly, before they give us any more of the Dinobots, I would like to see them take another stab at Grimlock. The one we have is nice, and I don't mind the inaccuracy's but it could definitely use a replacement. The problem isn't a trademarking issue, and even then adding Autobot or Dinobot to it would only help if the name was a common term. The issue with Slag, is that it's considered a fowl word in some parts of the world, and that's why Hasbro has been using Snarl for Slag homages. From what I know of the situation, it's more along the lines of the name being changed to be more accurate, or something.
Honestly i would be happy with any of the four. I like the three animated dinos as well. I would have to say im a fan of the dinobots.
Swoop as he's the second most iconic Dinobot. But afterwards please make it Sludge as he never gets any love what so ever.
I'm sorry, but you are in error. Being a dinosaur geek, I must correct you! Grimlock may have been intended to be a Tyrannosaurus but he doesn't look a thing like one. He looks vaguely like a generalized theropod (biped, three fingers on arms, large head, carnivorous) but his posture is all wrong...badly out of date even in 1984. (Note that Tyrannosaurus is a derived theropod that had two fingers, not three.) Slag is a robot Triceratops. Snarl has to be a Stegosaurus, as that taxon is actually quite unusual for a stegosaur. However, most reconstructions of Stegosaurus have the plates differently arranged. Swoop has to be a Pteranodon due to the characteristic crest (Pteranodon is a quite unusual pterosaur). However, its accuracy does not impress. It's also worth noting that pterosaurs are merely close relatives of dinosaurs, whereas birds actually are dinosaurs. Sludge is clearly a sauropod, but it is impossible to get more specific than that as the details simply do not exist on the character. To say that Sludge is a Brontosaurus, and then say that the dinosaur does not exist anymore, is basically a ghastly misunderstanding of taxonomy. The name Brontosaurus is no longer used because it was discovered to be synonymous with Apatosaurus. In other words, a dinosaur was named once, then given a different name due to carelessness/inaccurate reconstruction. The first name wins. There are two reasons why this does not matter at all for Sludge. First of all, there are dozens, perhaps over a hundred known sauropods (long-necked, long-tailed, quadrupedal herbivores of extreme size) and Sludge might as well represent one as another. Second, because the name Brontosaurus was revoked does not mean that the animals that once bore this name vanished from natural history.
Swoop... They could then repaint him as Terrorsaur. Wouldn't be show accurate but would still be pretty cool.
If we did see the dino's I would rather have them in the same scale, I wouldn't like the deluxe classic grimlock standing beside a voyager snarl. Though I'm just about finished making my own voyager scale dinobots, so if they did release all 5 in voyager style I might cry LOL
sludge, he needs a new toy the hate classics grimlock is unwarranted, that is a very fun figure, so what if he doesn't look like g1 girmlock exactly, he wasn't based off the original g1 grimlock he is based of pretender grimlock, makes the figure even more enjoyable when you realize this
We already had a CHUG Dinobot. I know he's gotten some critizism but I personally love that figure! Later
as much as I'd love to see Sludge get a toy, I want Swoop to get the treatment first... He was always my second favourite growing up, and being a Brit we got shafted for a G1 Swoop.
