Wow, this model is really coming together bro! The blasters could be better, but they do add quite a bit! hehe. Also, i think the arms are a bit on the skinny side, maybe i missed it the first time, but they seem thin...
Good idea. Need to finish modeling and rigging this guy first though. I will try and do that pose as well. Thanks! Em... OP doesn't have muscles, so making him do strong man poses would make him look strange, don't you think? I haven't finished modeling the blasters when I posted that pic. Now that I have, I think it does help, but I think I'll give him just the one blaster with arm guard or butt rest or whatever that blue thingy that sticks out at the back of the blaster in his promo pic (which you get to see only once in the movie when he nailed that constructicon in Shanghai). Still haven't finished modeling this dude. Sorry guys..
It's a shield, covers his forearm. I thought you had sufficient reference material. I can still provide it if you like.
Nope. And in that industrial building scene, the guns are the same, not mirrored like the ones you see in Sideshow's Cinemaquette. Wonder why they decide to mirror the damn thing.
I think the double blasters, as they are now, look just a bit too cartoony compared to the model. Maybe you could try slimming them down and making them a bit longer? And the doors on his chest need to be angled back just a bit; having them almost flush with the windshield looks a bit awkward. Otherwise this still has to be the best Optimus model besides the one ILM made.
Hey... Thanks for pointing that out mate! This is the problem I have when I make something mechanical, I tend to make it as see it from the reference pictures, which means that when the thing is at an angle, I made it in accord to that particular angle, hence the deformed look that it has now ROFL... Again, you're right, them door panels should be more angled. Thanks! Thanks for the kind words as well mate!
I just examined that scene, and you're right about them not being mirrored. Although the shield is present for the blaster in his right hand.
Finally finished a preliminary rig for this guy. It's a bit rough, but it gets things done. Hope you like the poses as requested by red4.
that model is looking good. And i dont think i can really see any rigging problems, so thats a REALLY good job you did!
WOW really nice job! What programs did you use? One thing to consider when posing the model is if the pose looks good in a silhouette, it reads to other people well also. I don't think the stepping one quite reads right. Must of been difficult to rig!! I hate rigging....=P Awesome work!
Thanks man! I've uploaded a walk-cycle test on youtube, surely you'll be able to spot several things that are wrong about it. The kibbles at his back for one are not moving along with his shoulder blades. Will have to add some bones there as well. And tweak some of the bones to create secondary motion as well. Used 3ds max. Yeah, that pose up there is from its walk-cycle animation and I'm still not happy with it. Agree with you on the silhouette thing. Rigging is not that hard. Took me a solid 20 minutes to rig it hence the strange jerky motions you'll find here: YouTube - Optimus Prime Rig/Walk-Cycle Test Will tweak the rig some more once I got some spare time. Thanks!
Hmm, from the video, which i commented on as well, i can tell that the front chest piece isnt moving proportionatly to the chest itself. Also his elbows seem to be positioned too low, thats an easy fix though.
Which chest piece are you referring to? If by chest piece you mean the windows, they are on a different joint just like in the movies. But for those red pieces that are sticking out which seem to be part of the engine compartment, they do need to be put on a yet different bone setup which I haven't made yet. Also, I'm quiet sure that I got the elbows right, so if you can elaborate more about what you mean by them being positioned too low, I'd like to know, coz I want this model to be as close to the original ILM model as possible. Thanks!
Well, i have to refrence the movie eventually, but from eye i think the joint for the elbow should be moved up about....to the end of where the arm guards are (or maybe they are there and the animation just curved the joint). Also about the chest thing, "aaaahhhh ok". XD
That's what I initially thought as well, but upon careful examination, the joint is actually at that lower proximity (slightly below that blue circular thing on this elbow). I have made some more bones for the legs, as well as joint-type thingy that are attached between his chest and shoulder panel as well as to its upper arm. Kinda hard to point out, but hopefully the next video can show it to you. Thanks for the support mate. If there is anything else that you find strange about the model/rig, please let me know. Cheers.
