No. The dungeon design in spirit tracks is much better thanphantom hourglass. it still has a bunch of stupid, stupid puzzles that arent fun or rewarding at all.

I think the whole train thing is actually why I stopped. there's invincible enemies on the tracks, they kill you if you touch them. you're tasked several times with taking people to different places on your train, and they will get off if you don't obey the, um, traffic signs? that tell you to slow down, speed up, blow the whistle. all while evading these invincible enemies that will get right behind you, or are coming towards you at an upcoming turn, and will will mow you down if you don't hurry the hell up. passenger gets mad. passenger gets off. you get to start over.

just thinking about it makes me mad.

never had a problem with the controls though.

That's sorta the point. I like regular gameplay.

I have a DS and not a PSP because I'm interested far more in the games and game universes of the Nintendo DS (Mario, Zelda, etc.). PSP doesn't have many games I want that are exclusively for that system. However, if that wasn't the case, I would've easily gone for the PSP. I find the touch screen mildly annoying (though not unbearably so like the Wii's motion controller), and two screens I still find silly--particularly when you have one game world spanning two screens. Just make one larger screen if you need more pixel room. And don't get me started on the "blow into the speaker!" moments... (Spit-covered screen, anyone?)
Of course, the DS is a commercial success so enough people must feel drawn to it, but I'm just telling you my opinion-- they perfected game controls around the PS1/N64 gen when you added enough buttons and button combos to accomplish a reasonable amount of different actions. That's a perfect formula, IMO, and messing with it and adding gimmicks only lessens my enjoyment of games.

So your point is, your opinion drives what games and systems you buy- anything that attempts to increase immersion is annoying, and you don't like them. Fair enough. But both "gimmicks" Nintendo has introduced with the DS and Wii have allowed them to reach a greater range or consumers as well as cater to the "hardcore" gamers. If you spit on your screen, you need to realize the difference between spitting and blowing. Oh, and I believe the reason Nintendo had a Dual-Screen function was because you could use one as a touch screen- but again, it all boils down to whether or not touch screens are interesting to you or not.

If it sounds like I'm attacking you, I'm sorry. I just think that video games need to be immersible and you can only get so far with a solid story and a controller- the next step to to draw the player in even more. However, that's a creative look at video games- if you just want something that you can play in your spare time and enjoy, I suppose that style of play is appealing. However, I want to see more, and if a company is willing to draw me in by doing drastically different things that alter my way of looking at gaming, I support them. I support Nintendo. I believe a gimmick is something that you try once and then either integrate if it works or drop if it fails, and if it is integrated it isn't a gimmick anymore- it's a feature. I like Nintendo's features, just as you don't. So I apologize if I'm acting like a dick...

No, RadRav... you're right. Nintendo created the Wii so that the player could get immersed into the game with "natural" movements. If you feel like you're part of the game with a certain gimmick, its done its job.

Well, "increasing immersion" depends on the person. For me, these DECREASE immersion quite drastically. Picking up the stylus for the umpteenth time for move my character across the screen reminds me that I'm playing a game by having to "draw" where a person goes. Pressing a button is less interruptive of the gameplay. The same idea applies for me to motion controllers and the like-- when I'm swinging a controller and the person ON THE SCREEN does the motion, it seems odd. Like I'm looking in some weird mirror, since I'm obviously not in the TV. (Only in Wii games where you don't see the in-game character does this work, I think.) Not to mention I can't help but feel like a clown flailing around like that. (And double screens mean there's a "bar" between your peek into the game world, which also decreases immersion.) Usually when you swing with your arm or do something like that, it involves more of a conscious decision than just pressing a button that after a few hours with the game becomes little more than an automatic twitch, which detracts from the experience.

Granted, though I'd argue it's distanced themselves from hardcore gamers somewhat (but not completely) while increasing their casual games audience. It's hard to find well-reviewed "traditional" Wii games that aren't major 1st-party games like Super Mario Galaxy. And many people seem to be buying them for "non-game" purposes. Look at how popular Wii Fit is. Even though nobody else in my family wants to play it, my mom is seriously considering getting a Wii JUST for a couple of exercise games. I doubt she's the only one. And a lot of people get a DS and just play the brain-stretcher games.

But spitting is part of blowing. When your mouth gets dry (i.e, when you're blowing a bunch of air out of it), your saliva glands will involuntarily squirt (and I mean SQUIRT) out more saliva to keep your mouth moist. I've accidentally spit on people several times while talking because my glands decided that that was just the right time to squirt saliva out of my mouth far enough to hit the person I've been talking to. Despite swallowing and trying to keep my mouth as dry as possible for "blow-a-thons", I'd still end up getting spit on the screens every couple of times it prompted me to blow air into the mic. I now just move my finger across the mic in a rapid motion to accomplish the same thing, but that's kind of a cheat. (Seriously, blow hard on your computer screen with your face an inch or two from it. It may not happen the first time, but if you wait a few minutes and then try it again and then maybe again, pretty soon you'll end up with spit on your screen. Particuarly if you blow several times in a row, as is required in many of those games.)

Naw, you're not, not in the least. Don't apologize.

I dunno if this has been mentioned before, but I suspect the 3D screen is simpler than you would expect.

For a start, its going to be designed for one person at (probably) one orientation. New cars have screens where it displays multiple screens for multiple angles, so the driver sees one thing and the passenger another. So as long as the DS 3D can process 2 passes for the display I don't see this as being very hard to do. Sony must be kicking themselves for not shoving this into the PSP.

How they work this for the DS being held as a book is anyones guess, but I'm leaning toward this sort of screen technology. I'm actually very curious. Also, in terms of backward compatibility, I wonder if it can convert existing DS games into proper 3D? That would be a major selling point.

    Edit.
Gamecube graphics + 3D + Beach Spikers = 100% Guaranteed sale from pervert guys like me. Zelda. Pssssh. You guys don't know what you are talking about.

pfft. whatever.  The virtual boy rocked! In fact, I'm bidding on one as we speak (seriously)

edit: that came across a bit rude actually. Smiley face added to emphasize the joking nature. Though I actually am still bidding on a v/b

I had a friend who actually owned one of those and several games. That thing gave me a serious eye-ache after about 10 minutes of playing.

Pictures and info on the launch games.

    Nintendo 3DS -- First Party Game Screens (andriasang.com, 09.29.2010)

    Some thoughts--

You can use your mii's on the 3ds.

    Classic vc!

Paper mario uses stickers huh? Sounds like smash brawl.

Animal crossing 3ds you can make your own village and steal the mayors job!

Mario kart looks great but wish we would get more info on it.

Can't wait for the zelda time remake.

Edit--Mega man legends 3 is coming to 3ds!
